how to have faith in your own work? i deeply admire your philosophy of writing and following you has enticed me to start my own novel (thank you 🩵), but my work feels so shallow. i can see the edges of a few good ideas but as a whole it's so flimsy and nothing. i don't know how to build a solid framework for those good ideas to grow on

discernment and love. you have to love it into existing and be discerning enough to know what love for your own work feels like so you can let those feelings guide you. if you pay attention in this early stage, you’ll find that the ideas and images that are most exciting to you now have elements inside of them that can be reformulated/retranslated to become the most effective and impactful version of themselves. there’s reasons behind every image and every idea that loom so large to you even when the story itself isn’t fully formed yet. if you can manage to stretch those images enough to introduce motion and forward momentum, routes forward will present themselves to you as long as you keep summoning images and possibilities and keep testing them to see if they actually hook you and pull you forward with your own love for the ideas being expressed.
