keeping our thoughts in sync...
I’ve been seeing a lot people saying they find the narrative, some characters’ accents, or the way things unfold strange, and I think we’re forgetting that this season is being narrated by a Lestat who decided to record part of his story for anyone who might be interested in hearing it. We don’t have Daniel confronting him “in real time” while trying to unravel sinister plots behind a narrative that shows—once again—that memory is a monster; instead, we simply have Lestat wanting to show someone (and the world) how things were from his point of view. And this Lestat is different from Louis, different from Armand, and different from Daniel; this version isn’t the same one we’re used to seeing in Dubai, and of course we’re going to miss that narrative because it was with us for two seasons, but now we have to acknowledge that the narrator (and author of his own story) is a different character.
I know that Armand’s absence from the episodes can be painful—as I’ve seen some people complaining—and I, too, miss the amount of screen time Daniel used to have, since he’s my favorite character, and of course I’d like to see more of Devil’s Minion on screen, just as I’d like to see more of Louis, whom I also like. But well… again, we’re talking about Lestat. He tends to rush into things, to be impulsive, energetic, and emotional, and only at the end does he realize just how wrong his calculation of things turned out to be. Let’s wait and see, because I believe the pieces will fall into place. We’ve had two seasons to understand how Louis’s narrative unfolded regarding his own traumas and memories and how that shaped him over time; now it’s Lestat’s turn, and I believe Armand’s and Daniel’s turns will come as well.
