I'm definitely reading Wolf Boy when it comes out btw. It's not at all something I'd pick up on my own lol, and I possibly won't enjoy it that much (though who knows!) but it's the fact that it's just inextricable from the exact fandom culture I'm always talking about. It's kind of fandom history in a way. So I do intend to read it and give it a fair review haha.
Really responding to your tags here, as I've read both Manacled and a chunk of Alchemised (DNF'ed), and a few other fanfic-adapted works. In my experience, and very unfortunately, published fanfic doesn't tend to trim the fat. Alchemised ended up being significantly worse than Manacled because of the need to introduce a new world, new magic system, and new terminology for that magic system. A good editor would absolutely trim down the story of ATYD... but I'm not sure a good editor will be given that happy power.
I'll probably read it when it comes out too, I've been observing the Marauders fandom with fascination for several years now, although I'm not active in Marauders tumblr spheres. I don't think an HP fanfic set primarily at Hogwarts has ever been adapted to tradpublishing, and I'm curious to see how it will all end up
