Dragons are basically fish, when you get down to it.

There’s no such thing as fish. The word doesn’t have any taxonomic meaning. It’s a word we’ve used to describe everything from hagfish to goldfish, even though a coelacanth is more closely related to a camel than a salmon. But because they inhabit the same ecological niche of “vertebrate animal with gills and fins,” we call them all fish.

Likewise, there’s no such thing as dragons. We call anything that fills the mytho-ecological niche of “dangerous animal that blocks the way” a dragon. And that’s why any kind of argument of what does and doesn’t count as a dragon is moot — wyverns are dragons just as much as a jabberwock or a jaculus or a tatzelwurm, not because they’re closely related in a biological clade but because they fill a narrative niche.

Dragons are also lobsters, but that’s for unrelated reasons.

thoughts about future riordanverse adaptations???:

hoo: ok so the first pjo books fits really well as a live action series, but on the next one, aka heroes of olympus, I think it should be animated, mostly because of the characters powers (like I think Franks and Hazels and Percy’s powers would look amazing when drawn rather than with special effects), also it would be easier than special effects, you can do LITERALLY ANYTHING as long as you can like draw it. Also, if it was live action, it would take like a year per book but in the books it’s months and not years so it’s easier if you just draw the characters so that way you control when/how the age and making the character actually look like the character without having to go through the casting progress.

toa: it has to be a musical, one for each book, no explanation needed. The songs and characters moving around and chorus behind when Apollo/Lester is singing and being dramatic and being like “everyone loves me~” and them being like “no~” and all the lyric potential and like part where Meg sings about her life, and like the poems and prophecies I-

tkc: so I heard about the Netflix movies and I’m ok with that.

mcga: I would understand if it was a live action movie for each book cuz it’s what’s commonly done with books, and like the thought of watching a movie about like a homeless son of Frey who dies within the first 10 minutes of the movie, ends up in Valhalla and becomes friends with a muslim girl with axes and they do norse stuff sounds so fucking cool (and people get invested and then there’s another movie with a poc and genderfulid character-). While I think it would make a good animated series, it wouldn’t make a good live action series, idk how to explain it but it makes sense in my head.

ALSO hear me out, an animated series with the riordanverse characters (main or side characters from literally any book) doing random stuff like what happens in like the demigod diaries and other made up stuff and like you get my idea.

So I’ve been re reading ToA and am currently in Burning maze and I just want Apollo to shut up about love handles. I’m only halfway through the book and he’s like “oh my ugly human body with acne and flab” which I’m used to by now, but now he’s also been complaining about how he has love handles, like he’s mentioned that like three times now. “My pathetic body complete with love handles” (actual quote from page 236) PLEASE JUST SHUT UP LITERALLY NO ONE ASKED

I get that Rick wanted to show that Apollo isn’t comfortable in this human/Lesters body, but he didn’t have to keep adding that, same thing on the acne and flab thing that is also mentioned constantly. Like sir I assure you that he can say he doesn’t like his appearance without mentioning those things as if they’re the worst thing someone could have on their body.

I think a lot about how we as a culture have turned “forever” into the only acceptable definition of success.

Like… if you open a coffee shop and run it for a while and it makes you happy but then stuff gets too expensive and stressful and you want to do something else so you close it, it’s a “failed” business. If you write a book or two, then decide that you don’t actually want to keep doing that, you’re a “failed” writer. If you marry someone, and that marriage is good for a while, and then stops working and you get divorced, it’s a “failed” marriage.

The only acceptable “win condition” is “you keep doing that thing forever”. A friendship that lasts for a few years but then its time is done and you move on is considered less valuable or not a “real” friendship. A hobby that you do for a while and then are done with is a “phase” - or, alternatively, a “pity” that you don’t do that thing any more. A fandom is “dying” because people have had a lot of fun with it but are now moving on to other things.

I just think that something can be good, and also end, and that thing was still good. And it’s okay to be sad that it ended, too. But the idea that anything that ends is automatically less than this hypothetical eternal state of success… I don’t think that’s doing us any good at all.

Big fan can you give your take on how the Fandom has recently started hating on percy to show nico in a new light?I kinda feel like they are taking all nico percy moments out of context to show percy as a villan ?It breaks my heart that percy gets so much hate for the smallest thing these days(they even make him the villain for taking will to treat annabeth TLO . )

I’m not sure what tumblr you’re on because I don’t see many people giving Percy significant hate? I’ve seen the posts criticizing his treatment of Nico like you mentioned but none of those are particularly hateful. Percy was sorta mean to Nico a few different times and while that doesn’t make him a horrible person, it’s ok if people want to criticize it.

Also I’m one of the people pointing out how Percy could have handled his relationship with Annabeth better in tlo but in no way does that make him a villain. He’s a teenager, we all do maybe stupid things as teenagers
