The Hate U Give is about 16-year-old Starr who lives in “the Ghetto” but goes to a fancy - and mostly white - private school. Her mostly seperated lives become intertwined after she witnesses an officer shooting her best friend. The following weeks, she does not only have to deal with her own trauma, she also has to decide how to act - will she speak out for the case or will she protect herself?

Living in Germany I never fully grasped the extent of police brutality in the US. This book was an eye-opener.
