just pogged so hard cause one of the acting choices james ortiz made for rocky's puppet in the movie was having him tap the ground twice whenever he asked a question.

according to weir's worldbuilding docs, eridians tap the ground to better perceive their environment when there's no ambient noise for their passive echolocation (basically the auditory equivalent of squinting)

making the same gesture intentionally for communication physicalizes a request for information.

tap tap -> noise -> i can see

question -> response -> i understand

I always wanted to draw Graces “celebration” outfit while on Erid; I love the idea of Grace being lavished with a ton of jewelry and gifts. I combined his “Captain Comatose” robe with parts of the trip being turned into gemstones- the planet Adrian, Sol, astrophage, the Petrova line/red strings of fate, and design elements of Rocky’s own outfit.

(I do think it’s possible that with all the memory loss, he could have just- forgotten wafting was necessary but considering he knew what all the fancy science equipment was called as soon as he emerged from the coma- I’m not putting him above ignoring safety rules)
