Unpopular opinion: straight people using “partner” to refer to their SO actually helps normalize the term so that lgbt folx can use it without automatically outing themselves to strangers. It also helps other straight ppl get comfortable with the fact that strangers aren’t entitled to information about other people’s gender or sexuality.
Give op their hard-earned notes
Tbh I hear “partner” and assume gay, I didn’t know straights used it. Very fair point, OP
I hear ‘partner’ and think ‘gay’ too. A girl at work used it for months and I just went with it. When she would say ‘he’ I even thought maybe he was trans*. Anyways, someone using partner makes me more comfortable and I came out to her. She was just an intelligent straight girl that liked the term and was knowledgeable in human sexuality so definitely someone I should have felt comfortable coming out too. It’s a good sign of a straight person uses it IMO.
As a mental health clinician, this is actually my blanket term when discussing any romantic relationship. I agree it normalizes it, but I also think it’s a relatively safe term to use to describe most romantic relationships without making any assumptions about the person’s orientation or identity. I also use the word “partnered” when describing a monogamous relationship status.
The term “partner” also removes the implied hierarchy of boyfriend/girlfriend vs husband/wife. This is relevant both to non-monogamous people, and unmarried individuals for whom the importance of their relationship isn’t dictated by its legal status.

Hello tumblr dot com
It’s been a while. This is long.
Under any other circumstances I probably would be updating lovely things. But something Bad has happened and it’s all I can think about so I feel the need to do a bit of a brain dump.
I am currently 24 weeks pregnant after over a year of trying. I am a nervous pregnant person due to my previous miscarriage, and every bleed or cramp I near enough cried.
At first it was suspected ectopic pregnancy so I had to spend the night in hospital. Then they couldn’t see heartbeat so I had to have a repeat scan. Then I bled, so was back for another scan. Then I got hyperemesis and couldn’t keep down water so I had to stay in hospital on a drip over night. Then at my 16 week midwife appointment she couldn’t hear the heartbeat so it was back to the hospital for another scan to check he was ok.
Then I got to 20weeks and I finally felt relief - only 4 weeks away from viability (which seems like a huge milestone) and an anomaly scan which said everything was fine.
“Hes got his chin tucked in” aww bless him “and his hands over his chest” how cute! “and there’s quite a bit of you to get through” hang on cheeky “so I haven’t quite been able to see the chambers of the heart. Nothing to worry about, just need a repeat in 2 weeks”
2 weeks later and on the day of the scan I’m more worried about getting my work finished in time to leave early for the appointment, than about the appointment. I get it done and go to the antenatal clinic with my mum (adam didn’t get out of work and I said to not worry about it!).
Baby is in a funny position and sonographer is really struggling. I trot off and eat some chips for half an hour and come back. They scan me again and are really concentrating on the screen, in utter silence, taking picture after picture. At this point I’m still a bit ignorant, and quite happy just watching baby on screen with my mum.
“I’m sorrry, sweetie, it’s not good news today”
Que tears, panic, confusion, and a weekend of utter misery.
A week and a half - and several consultant and cardiology appointments - later and here are the facts. Baby’s heart isn’t developing quite as it should. He has a blockage in his aorta (called Coarctation of the aorta). This alone is one surgery at 4 days old and, while scary for such a small baby to go into and recover from, is a cure.
The problem is that the blockage means that blood isn’t flowing to the left side of the heart as easily, and the left side of his heart is significantly smaller than the right. This is likely to lead to Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, a fatal congenital heart defect with no cure. My 3 options in this instance would be:
⚫️ 3 consecutive surgeries that we could try, which have a 60% survival rate, and if he survived life expectancy for this condition is 20 years old. He would likely have development issues, other organs affected, and other issues to do with immune system which would mean a lot of hospital trips.
⚫️ Terminate my pregnancy at any point before term. (I would still have to go into Labour with this option)
⚫️ Palliative care when he was born, he would likely pass within 2 weeks of being born
Safe to say, I don’t know what to choose. I’m currently waiting for amnio results to rule out chromosome issues (already ruled out downs, pataus and Edwards). I think a chromosome issue would mean I wouldn’t be able to get the surgery so only termination or palliative care available.
I’ve done some research and there are some studies that suggest that oxygen therapy can encourage blood flow to the left side of baby’s heart so I’m hooked up to oxygen for 3 hours minimum a day to see if it helps it not progress. It’s the only thing I can do, and it would feel like madness to not do anything.
I also have to give birth in a different city to home , which isn’t that big on my list of things to worry about, but still scary.
I’m signed off work, I get results back for amnio in 2 weeks ish, and I’m in oxygen chamber twice a day, or hooked up to an oxygen concentrator at home. I have a scan at 28 weeks with a consultant, and a week at 29 weeks with a specialist. I hope that blood is still flowing to the left side come those appointments, but even if it is every thing could change in the 11 weeks between that and delivery.
All I’ve learnt in this last week is that sometimes life is shit, and you’re thrown shit that you should not have to deal with.
she’s right and she should say it

Penguins: clumsy but adorable.
i never wanted this to end
oh my god those are ROCKS the penguins are falling on ROCKS are you OKAY PENGUINS do you need WINGPADS OR SOME OTHER KIND OF SHOCK ABSORBING PROTECTIVE BODY GEAR
Fun fact, due to their flightlessness, penguins have actually extremely sturdy bones for birds. That plus their natural blubbery body makes them their own shock absorbers
All my life, I never knew I was a penguin

I start a new job tomorrow (yes another one) and I am feeling a bit nervous so I’ve gone into Super Duper Prepared Mode. I’ve showered, washed hair, and straightened it so I don’t have to faff with it in the morning. Planned and hung my outfit ready, including underwear and tights. Meal prepped lunch, packed snacks, packed a mug, jar of coffee (because hello I work in the nhs and there is no communal tea or coffee available ever unless you steal the patients), perfume, hand cream and lip balm transferred over to backpack along with headphones, purse and badge because I’ll be on the bus again and I am not carrying a handbag. Water bottle and lunch box is on the kitchen side so all I have to do in the morning is get a portion of lunch and fill my water bottle and get my coffee ready (and walk George if I have time).
Now all I need to do is find my portable charger and I can read until sleep.
how do men this weak even manage to survive
Oh my god ??????
“Ideal woman looks like one but with no bodily functions” = sex doll and that’s probably all he’s really mentally equipped to deal with.
Yesterday I don’t think I ate enough but my carbs are still low so I’m ok! I had the ketogenic cleanse chilli for lunch, and chicken and veg for my dinner. Feeling ok - a bit wobbly, definitely tired, and woke up hungry this morning and I will probably feel like this for the first week, but I also already feel less bloated and my skin is already looking better so 👍🏻 Always take my wins where I can!
Oh hi hello how are you and welcome to my “trying to not eat the entire world in 2018” post. I had an a-ok 2017. I lost some people, I gained some friends, I had fun, cried some, and pushed myself, got two new jobs, got stressed and drank lots of wine. 2017 was the year of indulgence. I recognise that my health was not at the forefront of my mind at all and I am now struggling because of it. *pity party for my health commence* I’m not exaggerating when I say I have been tired for 6 months. I have been to the doctors crying several times. I have been on antibiotics numerous times for infections that have been horrible and painful. I caught the flu for the first time. I gained weight. I can’t run. I get out of breath when I go for a walk. I think I’m the most unfit I’ve ever been. I cough up blood, have a constant cold, severe and intense headaches, and want a nap 24/7. *pity party for my health now over* So I started to think about the last time I felt truly healthy and good about myself. It was at the end of 2014 when I was committed to running, pole, swimming, and following a ketogenic Diet. Now that the week of indulgence is over (Christmas was lovely and New Years was fun), and now that I feel ready to commit, I want to make ANOTHER attempt at following and sticking to a low carb diet. Its very much going to be an “if it fits your macros” type low carb as nothing is on the “I can’t eat this list” as long as my carbs are under 30g a day. I start my new job in 3 weeks and would love to be feeling better for it because I know it’s going to be a challenge, with longer hours so I don’t want my health and food to be as much of a worry by then. So here’s today, January 1st. I ate eggs and meat and a hot chocolate. It was tasty. I’ve prepped some low carb chilli for lunch tomorrow and we’re having chicken tomorrow night.
