Adderdawn was a deputy many generations ago, now only remembered as a notable ancestor, a story elders tell to little kits about other cats' potential.
Adderkit was named the day before exiting the nursery for the first time by a mother too indecisive for one name, for her quiet, insecure but attentive demeanor.
As Adderpaw, she started off well enough, listening to her mentor but not the top of her class- and that would have been that, until her visit to Mothermouth. Suriin blessed her for conviction, her Seer having felt the potential in her heart quite early and knowing her biggest hinderance was her insecurity, and so the awestruck apprentice decided then and there she'd live to make the goddess who blessed her proud.
Just a few days later, however, her mentor brought her to see the tunnels, something every Windclan cat must know how to navigate, and Adderpaw froze on her feet. The dark, narrow, damp tunnels looked like the maw of a snake ready to eat her up whole, and she only managed a few steps in before bolting out in fear. Day after day her mentor would take her, and for a full moon she couldn't go further than a body-lenght.
At night, however, she'd watch the stars, and promised under Surin's gaze she'd be a cat fit of her blessing. She trained harder, volunteered often for patrols outside of training, and fought her shyness to be closer to her Clan. She first worked around her fear, learning how to hunt in the open fields better than even seasoned Warriors, and would be praised for walking into camp with pel hares even in lean season.
Then her trial came, and she knew what would await her when it was explained: tracking and ambushing her clanmate wouldn't be particularly hard for her, so the Leader must have thrown her off the trail in some way. She stalked the scent of her clanmate all through the moor, but froze in place when she noticed they led directly into the mouth of the largest tunnel system. She tried looking around, hoping they would turn out to lead anywhere else, but when she knew they wouldn't, she resigned in knowing she'd fail her assessment after all.
In that moment, the deputy came running to fetch her: a vixen mother was just spotted entering the tunnel system not far away, and her assessment would be put on hold due to the emergency. Adderpaw, shocked, realized her clanmate was traversing the tunnels, waiting for an ambush, completely unaware of this. She knew calling for someone else's help would take too long, and the deputy would still have to look for the other apprentices.
She knew there was only one right thing to do, and dove in without hesitation.
Tracking and ambushing them, despite their fear, became easy knowing there were many eyes watching over, despite the layer of earth between her and the sky. She tackled her clanmate, then urged them to run out with her on account of the fox potentially looking for them, and both cats got out safely.
Her leader approached her the next day, declaring she would have been named that night, but she'd just received the possibility of a new name: she'd been considered for -whisker for her hunting ability, though it could be honed more, but the act of bravery of the previous day, immediately fighting her weakness in a dangerous situation for a clanmate, letting her deputy continue tracking down the rest of their clanmates. That, to the leader, was an action befitting of a loyal warrior.
And so, Adderdawn was named, and in time worked hard to become a wise, reliable and attentive clanmate, and eventually deputy. Though her leader outlived her, she left huge pawsteps to fill in, and was remebered as a model deputy long after her death. She's believed to be in Suriin's hall today, a diligent cat who knows the importance of pushin one's limits for the good of the Clan.
I thought too hard about what is essentially a suggestion of a character lol.
I tried my best to write a prose as interesting and flowy as Lynx and Dullard manage to have, but I'm not the best writer. I also tried keeping in with canon, but I couldn't find a list of all the blessings Suriin can give so I made it up, hoping to keep in character. I loooove the world and the story of Redux and I cannot wait to read more, this hiatus is gonna hit hard for me guys qwq
