i went to a workshop on how to sell your art and it pissed me off. it isn't that the advice was bad — it was really good advice actually, if you want to be the type of artist who sells your work via instagram/tiktok. but i am so tired of being told i have to adopt corporate techniques and prey on people's increasingly shitty attention spans in order to be successful. i dont WANT to make reels and come up with text hooks, i dont WANT to make people sign up for an impersonal email list. i don't want to perform scarcity and urgency. the world has enough predators; i'm not interested in being one

its especially ugly that right after the workshop i considered writing this and posting it. the pressure is unreal. at the very least i feel like tumblr users are safe, bc if you read this entire paragraph you probably get it. i yearn for an era where sharing art is natural and free and money isnt required for survival and i dont need to become a capitalist overlord to live
