“I think Pacific Rim is unrealistic now because instead of everyone banding together to defeat COVID, the governments just gave up and abandoned everybody-”
Are you kidding me? Pacific Rim 100% predicted this kind of thing. That’s literally what the Pacific Perimeter Program was about. Once the PPDC decided fighting kaiju was too expensive, they just gave up and chose to ignore the problem by putting it behind a big wall. Pacific Rim is literally about the people who were abandoned by the institutions that were supposed to protect them and kept on trying anyway.

you have to understand:
The official sad ghost club
[ID: A digital comic by @akindplace, colored green and pink. The narrator is a stereotypical ghost, with arms poking out of their sheet. The comic begins with them sitting at a desk, staring off into space and thinking, "Recently I've been thinking a lot about this clip that I saw..." There's a flashback of them lounging and watching a video on their phone, and the narration continues, "...of a TED-talk, and basically the guy was saying how when animals are born, the first thing they do is what they need to do, to survive.
"Like fish, they swim." There's a depiction of a life cycle from a roe to a full-grown fish. Following that is a baby giraffe sitting in some grass, and then a slightly older one standing, to accompany the narration, "And baby giraffes can run basically straight after they're born. Because keeping up with the herd is what will keep them safe.
"Anyway, his point was, that as humans..." There's a baby, wrapped up in a blanket with just their head peeking out, crying loudly. "The first thing we do, integral to us surviving, is cry for help. Because it is the most important thing we need. And I keep coming back to that thought when I have to lean on someone."
The ghost calls someone on their phone and asks, "Can you just tell me it's all gonna be ok?" Their friend replies, "Of course it's gonna be ok! It's so fine. You totally got this!" The narration finishes, "It's ok to ask for help. It's our basic instinct. And we're just silly animals, doing what we need to do to survive," with three little hearts at the very bottom. /end ID]

happy valentines day
Just a general reminder that the week of 18-24 February is another strike. Please don't ignore this, no one has the excuse of it being too spontaneous this time as it has been planned since the strike in January ended. Don't talk about anything other than the injustices in the world. Talk about Palestine. Talk about Sudan. Talk about the republic of Congo. Talk about West Papua. Do not let anyone forget about any of the genocides going on rn.
Educate yourself, donate to unrwa and buy esims, look up local protests, look up and read books, watch videos, listen to podcasts, learn more. Find local organisations who are taking direct action, email and call politicians, join unions, theres so much you can do. Please don't ignore what's going on in the world rn
