"shipping and blorbofication are not inherently at odds with understanding a story's deep themes" and "some people can't grasp the themes of a story because they never learned how to engage with stories outside of the lens of shipping and blorbofication" are two statements that can coexist
blorbofication to me is when you love a character in such a laser focus way that you somewhat detach them from the narrative from which they are inserted and treat them in a way roughly similar to how you'd treat an oc for which you still have no story and just like to put them in situations just for fun. which there's nothing wrong with btw, it's just that it can easily lead to people forgetting the character engine in a narrative and not just a barbie doll
as an example of blorbofication taken to the extreme without the acknowledgement of the story context to ground it please refer to the thomas jefferson miku binder
brooo im actually so excited for episode 2 because (major akane banashi anime spoilers) i always thought the premise of guriko following shiguma because he thinks he's having an illicit affair is hilarious like help it's so unserious especially as an introduction to the shiguma school that akane is about to join. like you see shinta "die" and you know the story is about akane and then the next chapter is suddenly about neither akane nor shinta but this rando with a fuckass hair-do trailing an old man in broad daylight. the switch up was crazy I loved it then I still love it now and this time it gets to be ANIMATED omg
I’m soooo hype for episode 3 we’re gonna see Miku-chan and watch my girl learn her first lesson as a student which is so crazy when we think about it because kibataraki/“attentiveness” basically carries her through every challenge/achievement as she evolves as an artist and now we get the honor of seeing her at the very start of her journey. also her mom is awesome.
People literally don’t know one of Akane’s best moments in this arc is next episode they literally already made a figurine about it. I’m always so proud of her the way she takes in what she learns but puts her own spin on it is so endearing and fun to watch!!! 😭 and, I’m really excited to see how they adapt Kyoji’s rakugo to animation! He’s serious but very genuine about teaching Akane, it’s hard not to like him. Like, Kaisei lit a fire under her ass, but Kyoji is more “I want to learn from this guy!!!” Next story chunk really helps the audience understand “Shiguma school” and Akane’s place in it…ahhh….😭😭
AHHHH this next ep, ep 5, is kinda making me appreciate the pacing choices with Akane-banashi more. we're thrown into the excitement of rakugo, and then given a breather with akane's school/personal life. she feels a lot more alive/real as a character because of it! also, I think introducing Akane's teacher is a good follow up since we just got a glimpse of what Shiguma is like as a teacher as well. The idea of "responsibility of a teacher" is explored really deeply throughout the story, as far as when akane becomes a pupil of Shiguma, so it's really cool to get to see the first step in expanding that theme a bit more! !! very excited for tomorrow!!
guysss guyss it's happening bear-chan is literally tomorrow oh my godd........koguma.....!!! he's so cute,
Oh my god 😭😭😭😭oh my godddddddddddddddddddddddffdddddfdfddddddddddddddddddddd
my worstie is up to bat💖💖💖 omg i hate him😍😍🥰 !!!!! yayyyyyyyyyyyyy🤗🤗🤗 it's not rlly obvious how they're gonna splice the manga chapters from here....maybe some more anime-original content gets added to flesh out the characters which tbh i wouldn't be opposed to...! one thing i do appreciate about karashi is he's surprisingly genuine about his goals and puts in the work to achieve them !! He looks and acts like someone who shouldn’t be in a shonen rivalry but he issss you can’t escape lol. i also love his artsy aesthetic. im REALLY EXCITED to see how the anime adapts it for his rakugo!!
I fucking hate it here
For those of you with android devices, you can use the Android Debug Bridge (ADB) standalone app control program to get rid of all the bloatware, data mining, and AI crap - no coding needed!
save
There are also Android-based alternatives like GrapheneOS and LineageOS, which are pretty easy to install. These are unfortunately available for a more limited range of devices (Graphene is ironically Pixel only, while Lineage supports more), but it's very worth checking out whether one of them might work for your phone.
GrapheneOS is a security and privacy focused mobile OS with Android app compatibility.
LineageOS Android Distribution
Typing this from Graphene now, in fact. But, both of those take the Android Open Source Project, without all the bloatware--and largely de-Google the whole thing. They give you much more control over privacy and what the apps you choose to install can do and access on your phone.
I know Graphene sandboxes everything, including the optionally installed Google Play Services which a lot of apps unfortunately require to run. (Lineage uses an alternative to Play Services instead.) So, you can install what would normally be unacceptably intrusive apps and just lock them away from pulling any funny shit with your data, or phoning home. Including the couple of Google things I do still keep around.
I also prefer running much more transparent, privacy-respecting open source apps where possible. Besides the transparency, I'd rather avoid the shitty tech corps entirely where I can. There are pretty good alternatives available for a lot of the usual suspects.
AlternativeTo lets you find apps and software for Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, iPad, Android, Android Tablets, Web Apps, Online, Windows Tab
An alternative app store:
F-Droid is an installable catalogue of FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) applications for the Android platform. The client makes it easy
Also just going to leave this here.

i've just never been too fond of endings that just solve everything in an alternative universe...commit to the tragedy or don't write a tragedy in the first place!
some people not understanding Asa's emotional outburst at her mom's letter when she's been avoiding her grief, refusing to confront it and has been trying to figure out if she actually knew her parents enough to feel sad beyond "oh. my parents died and it's a sad thing so the normal response is to cry about it but i can't bring myself to" 15yo kid trying to decipher if her feelings towards the tragic event in her life is valid. it's the core theme of the story: validation. not from others but from yourself.
Asa is stuck trying to live a "normal" life; normal response, normal graduation, normal family. the very thing her mother chased her entire life despite living one so far from it. but it sends a very confusing signal to Asa because she knows their life wasn't your orthodox traditional life. her parents weren't a normal married parents, her conception wasn't normal either yet they raised her pretending that they were a "normal family" instead of being truthful and embracing their unique situation. she was raised being told one thing and seeing the opposite; so when her mom wrote "i love you" Asa doesn't know if she actually means it or it's just another mask to present herself as a normal loving mother, it's the same as when she told Asa to make her own choices but in the end, chose a club for her.
her mom says one thing and does the opposite. her father says nothing at all. so really, how can Asa truly grieve her parents while she's busy trying to decipher these puzzles of people she knows nothing about? Makio quite literally says "Your feelings are your own" everyone deals with grief differently.

70 year old professor who sometimes calls students "comrade": faggotry is actually good, I don't have a problem with faggotry, Aristotle was a faggot, Caesar was a faggot...

Professor: ...Galileo was a faggot, I think Napoleon was a faggot, Comrade Tito probably wasn't a faggot but...

Hilariously cisgender question from this counseling screening thing im filling out, lmao. Like, I know what they're getting at, but... this opens such a philosophical can of worms. Did i have a Gender when i was born? Does gender start at conception? Without remembering the events of my own birth, how can i be certain that I didn't quietly identify as a ze/hir from ages 0-3 months? much to think about
My gender was baby and now it's adult
Now that im so far into my transition one of my favourite things to do is to roleplay being the protagonist of a genderbend manga. like I'll pretend I didn't do all that and it's all coming as a big shock to me and i'll act out the awkward dialogue and even throw in an "I have to find a way to swap back!" or two
