wait wait wait. so when they meet right before the flood, Crowley calls Aziraphale by his name. but in the Job minisode he's all over calling him Angel. and Aziraphale said
the point is. THE point is, it's safe to assume this is the first time Crowley calls him angel. and Aziraphale barely acknowledges it. I wonder what happened between then and now in Crowley's world for this to happen. and what went inside Aziraphale's mind when he first heard it
in conclusion
My running theory is that at the beginning of the Job episode, Crowley is calling him "Angel" in... not a derogatory way, but an impersonal way. He's distancing himself because God's decision to flood the locals and the children really pissed him tf off, and Aziraphale was still trying to defend it. So I can imagine that instead of calling him by his name, he decides to go with a less familiar title. You're not Aziraphale, we're not chummy, you're just another angel working as God's bitch, and I'm going to refer to you as such. It could also explain why he was so hell-bent (lol) on trying to get on Aziraphale's nerves the whole time.
By the end of the episode, Aziraphale has teamed up with Crowley and blatantly defied God to protect the children, what he believed to be the right thing to do, at the risk of Falling himself. Which Crowley respects him for immensely. By the end of the Job episode, not only is "Angel" not an informal title, not only does it become a term of endearance, it becomes an affirmation to remind and reassure Aziraphale that he is still the very best of the angels, even when he isn't a particularly good one.
