Honestly The Curse of the Colonel is one of my favorite Japanese urban legendsâŚ
Basically the Hanshin Tigers baseball team had a major victory in 1985 and fans went WILD and stood on a bridge chanting the playerâs names, and every time they said a name a fan that resembled the player whose name was said would jump into the canal
BUT there was an american player on the team named Randy Bass and the crowd wanted to include someone who looked like him too, but there were no white people around so they snatched a Colonel Sanders statue and tossed it into the water as an effigy
after this the Hanshin Tigers won nothing for 18 years! The rumor began to circulate that throwing the statue into the canal had angered Colonel Sanders and he had cursed them and wouldnât allow them to win until they retrieved the statue. Obviously many attempts were made to find it, but no one was successful.
In 2009 the uper body, lower body, and right hand of the statue were found when police thought it was a dead body, but the left hand and his glasses are missing and the Hanshin Tigers still have not won anything. It is said they will continue to lose until they find the last pieces. Hereâs the colonel though!

I, for one, welcome our Corvid overlords.
verily! a fork!
@okaybuttfirstcoffee I love corvids.
Hereâs a personal project, a short 5-page comic, âA Wolf in Sheepâs Clothingâ.
Written by Jordan Alsaqa (https://twitter.com/endigomaster), and all art by me.
I had a lot of fun with this, especially coloring it!
The eclipse is beautiful!
Sometimes Iâm like, âI have a chronic illness and thatâs fine! Iâm going to take it easy, because thatâs what my body needs!â
Other times Iâm like, âFuck this shit, Iâm gonna carry 16 bags of groceries at once, who the fuck cares if I have an episode later, Iâm not letting anyone do anything for me ever âcause Iâm not a fucking wimp!â and then Iâm writhing in pain for six hours BUT AT LEAST I PROVED MY WORTH.

New My Little Ponies, designed by neural network
The Kingdom of Equestria is inhabited by thousands of colorful, magical ponies, whose life cycle, socioeconomics, and biomechanics are best not investigated too closely. Their names are usually something like âRainbow Dashâ or âDiamond Tiaraâ or (my favorite because sheâs totally a grad student pony): âTwilight Sparkleâ.
Often the plot calls for crowd scenes (usually involving ponies in great peril), and I worry that some day the creators of My Little Pony will run out of names. In the spirit of being helpful, I decided to put a computer to the task of generating lots of new ponies.
I used a program called a character-level recurrent neural network (char-rnn), which looks at examples of text (Pokemon, or Harry Potter fan fiction, or even guinea pig names) and learns to imitate them. I gave the neural network more than 1,500 names from My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Wiki, and let it start learning.
Result: partial success.
It did come up with some pretty plausible-sounding ponies, certainly not as weird as some of the ponies that have already appeared on the show (such as Groucho Mark and Button Mash and Buzzard Hooffield).
Star Blueberry Sprinkle Cherry Bolt Berry Spy Sweet Glints Cheer Belle Sunferry Sunshine Star Sweet Bolt Cherry Curls Mint Flower Bright Seas Flight Star Plum Flower Sweet Suns Brash Clouds Cheery Breath Cloudy Daze Big Blue Brass Flare Blue Chile Coco Mane Neon Brush Strawberry Sun Sugar Top Cinnamon Mark Glowberry Amethyst Mist
The neural network also came up with some seriously tough-sounding ponies, ones that you would definitely want on your side when fighting giant killer cupcakes, or whatever the peril is this week.
Cold Sting Scarline Shoot Bolt Sunder Bright Dark Role Sob Dancer Sunsrot Masked Rock Roar Starlich Command Pony Deader Pony Flint Sting Steel Roller Dark Candy Scarphore Creep Well Prince Still Stare Rust Crack Colder Sanderlash Bitter Star
But the neural networkâs results werenât all successful. It also came up with some ponies that probably wouldnât be on the A-team.
Dunder Dort Tardy Pony Flunderlane Flueberry Sherry Marina Doof Want Cone Starf Dad Star Star Flurtershy Starly Star Mr. Atple Pony Pony Packy Pack Pinky Swoll Apple Apple Dim McColt Free Sing Fail Poney Hoof Tasting Spar Dirky Flithers Arple Robbler Chest Star Barp Moon Mr. Wander
It also invented some ponies that are just plain weird.
Lilie Lice Billy Boon Wootson Mice Full Fish Crest Suns Sun Ramen Breek Smarky Hondsarors Blither Bon Persy Belly Pony String Heart Swinkleshine Flint Cream Star Sandlime Rocky Scooppony Piemonk String Punch Apple Stork Bunny Maze Lilac Ruster Winker-Moon Charmy Vine Swan Break Wags Pine Pearlicket Nandy Quark Firey Up Tracklewock Packin Flustershovel Aoetel Pakeecuand Tapshine Sugar Cloudsdalou Sandy Apple Mitten Splash Silvermice Butter Flash Agar Swirl Cheese Breeze
And a list of ponies you might want to avoid:
Clotter Raspberry Turd Blueberry Pants Benny Sweat Parpy Stink Blue Cuss Groan Rear Pony Lace Crunk Rade Slime Derdy Star Swill Brick Colona Pocky Mire Hoofed Snarch Apple Ronch Trowel Pony Smanky Hank Princess Sweat
Pony pictures created using:Â http://www.dolldivine.com/mlp-fim-pony-creator.php
The neural network also generated some ponies that would definitely not appear in a kidâs TV show - Iâm not sure where it learned some of those words. If you want the unfit-to-print ponies, fill in your email here and Iâll send them to you.
#SaveTheTrees
I feel like an important message is trying to be communicated to me but I have no idea what it is
Our forests are being cut down 3x faster than they can grow! One acre of hemp produces as much cellulose fiber pulp as 4.1 acres of trees!!! This is super useful for so many things, especially paper production! In addition, hemp takes in carbon dioxide 4x as fast as trees do, which makes it especially valuable in the act of reducing CO2 emissions/greenhouse gases! đ˛đ˛đ˛Â sourceÂ
#the scope of the anti-hemp conspiracy in the united states is terrifying once you start doing research tbh#like it was initially smeared/banned bc lumber lobbyists pushed for it to beâŚ#and a major smear tactic was to associate it with black people#who now a hundred years later are the ones primarily being imprisoned for it#and the plant itself has now been inextricably linked to the drug so people wonât even allow for it to be grown for commercial purposes#like paper making (via literallyfuckeveryone)
Important reminder that industrial hemp canât be used as a recreational drug, so if anyone tries to pull that card you can just stop them then and there. There are no real arguments against using industrial hemp, even if youâre rigidly against the legalization of any recreational drugs.
AYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY I never see pro-hemp on my dash, woo!
Usually the argument on why you canât have hemp is because then people will hide marijuana in it.
yeah, sureâŚ. if they want shitty, shitty marijuana.
It would be like growing sweet corn and dent corn together. Â Yeah, they look similar at a distance and theyâre closely related, but you donât want them next to each other as theyâll cross pollinate and youâll end up with bad versions of both.
Same deal here. Â a patch of marijuana grown in an open field of hemp IS going to get contaminated and itâll lower quality of BOTH crops. Â Your hemp farmer doesnât want that and if likely going rip out any patches trespassers try to add for same reason.Â
and the big issue is not even the THC content. Â Because most quality marijuana is intended to be grown indoors or greenhouses, its a dwarf variety. Short. Â Fiber hemp is bred for height so as to maximize fiber production. Â super tall. Itâs going to be really obvious, really fast if youâve got both in the same field even before you get to the point of pollination. whatâs this runty bullshit doing in my field?
They also have different growing needs with regards to spacing, harvest time, etc. so the argument that you can hide marijuana in industrial hemp fields are basically bullshit.
anyway⌠aside from paper, hemp fiber can also be used to make earthquake resistant concrete thatâs actually LIGHTER than conventional concrete while being stronger. Itâs better at resisting flexing or warping, so ideal for stuff like bridges and highway supports as itâll better resist large temperature swings and vibration. (âhempcreteâ is slightly different, but makes great fire resistant insulation)
You can also use the waste after fiber harvest for animal fodder, including silage. Comparable to corn. and remember, thatâs the waste after youâve harvested for fiber!
Just to add, it can be used for paper, concrete, insulation, cloth and rope (both rough like sack cloth and smooth like cotton), bio degradable plastics (oddly same for banana trees I believe) and then of course for things like fishing lines and nets etc.
Itâs a very versatile and useful plant that has been used for hundreds or maybe even thousands of years for material uses, and with modern advances is becoming even more useful thanks to chemical engineering and similar.
