Smth that I think even radfems ignore about women identifying with male characters and preferring male narratives is in stories with all men/mostly men, there's very rarely any sexual violence shown on screen. Take a classic movie like The Shawshank Redemption for instance, where the male protagonist is a victim of assault (rare as is). When Andy's experience of sexual violence is mentioned or implied, it's portrayed as horrific. It fades to black. It's shadows. There's no gratuitous scenes of groping, no voyeuristic shots of his face looking pouty and hands running along his hips. When was the last time you saw a story where the female protagonist was given that kind of dignity?

A woman in Germany has been warned by a court after comparing a transgender organization’s recently-adopted mascot and a symbol known to be used by pedophiles. Rona Duwe, a women’s rights campaigner, has received an order from the Higher Regional Court in Cologne barring her from further comparisons.
The initial complaint, lodged against Duwe in March, referred to a series of comments she had made online criticizing the distinct pink and blue butterfly being utilized as a mascot by a board member of the German Society for Transidentity and Intersexuality (DGTI – Deutsche Gesellschaft für Transidentität und Intersexualität).
The butterfly, which has been named Fiely, is a mascot of the northern German trans self-help group Fielappers – a low-German word translating to “butterflies.” Trans-identified male DGTI board member Julia Steenken has appeared holding the butterfly in public situations, and, according to Duwe, the mascot has been present in photos taken at several court proceedings, at meetings of the national parliament or Bundestag, in medical clinics, at events with families, and with the police.
The butterfly mascot was designed by Andrea Fleßner, a trans-identified male involved in the founding of Fielappers. Fleßner also has a close working relationship with DGTI.
Fiely is often seen posed amongst other childlike-toys on its dedicated Facebook page.

The city of Berlin has prompted outrage from locals after offering a graphic picture book on prostitution to children via its official website. The book, titled Rosie Needs Money (Rosi sucht Geld), is advertised as a resource for youth aged 6 to 12 years old.
According to Equal Opportunities Officer Kerstin Drobick, the book is a “helpful tool” for explaining prostitution to children of families residing in a red-light district of Berlin, located in Kurfürstenkiez, known as Kurfürstenstraße.
“In the years in which the Tiergarten Süd and Schöneberger Norden neighborhood management offices dealt with the issue of street prostitution and also had many conversations with residents, this was one of the topics: What do I say to the child? The Tiergarten Süd district management has faced this courageously,” Dobrick says in her defense of the book.
“An order was placed for a children’s book that tried to explain to the children what was happening there. Interestingly, extensive research has shown that educational books for children aged 10 and over avoid this explanation.”
Drobick also explains that the book on prostitution, which features graphic illustrations, was created “with primary school children and other people [in mind].”

Just as research suggests that we should shield young viewers from seeing fictional depictions of smoking and suicide, studies indicate that watching rape scenes can also do harm.
Beyond this risk of hard-to-shake personal distress is another concern that is at least as troubling. Fictional rape scenes may help shape how viewers think about actual sexual violence in the real world. Even a single exposure to dramatized sexual assault — such as what many young people now see — has been found to influence attitudes and inclinations. In two different experiments, college students who watched a movie that included a rape scene were compared to peers who watched movies with content that was either violent or sexual, but not sexually violent.
The studies found that the young men, but not young women, who viewed rape scenes in commercial films (including the same-sex attack in “Deliverance”) were subsequently more at ease with violence against women and more attracted to sexual aggression than those who had not watched a rape scene. These findings held true regardless of the gender of the victim.
Dramas often take pains to portray rape as the traumatizing and destructive act that it is. Unfortunately, doing so may not guarantee it will have the hoped-for effect. Neil Malamuth, a professor of psychology and communication studies at U.C.L.A. who studies the effects of mass media violence, has found that, “exposure to sexual violence — even if it is intended to help people see the horror of it — will be sexually arousing to a small but significant percentage of young male viewers. And we do know that such sexual arousal to violence is one of the contributing predictors of actual aggression against women.”
And if some viewers are aroused by rape scenes, others may become numb to them. Research on undergraduate men found that repeated exposure to sexually violent movies led to dampened distress while watching them, a reduced concern for victims of sexual assault and an increased acceptance of degrading depictions of women. (Similar findings are amply reported in the research literature on violent and nonviolent pornography.)
Interesting that even viewing male-on-male sexual violence caused ‘ease’ with violence against women. This is a good counter to ‘what about gay porn’ arguments (gay porn has all the same tropes of inequality and coercion as het porn), all porn makes rape sexy.

Yesterday Amnesty International tried to stop the regulation of prostitution in Canada.
All those examples are from 2023, the laws were put forward by prostitution survivors and they had to fight against those "human rights" organisation every single time.

So I am curious because I can't tell if I'm making an exception because its something I like or if they're actually different. But would you consider romance/erotica novels that feature sex scenes (explicit ones) to be as morally abhorrent as porn with a more visual aspect to it. My logic is that written scenes don't exploit real people. Drawn scenes I feel there is more of an argument to be made that people shouldn't consume it, but still aren't as bad as real life things.

There’s nothing wrong with written erotica; no one is exploited and no one is abused to create it. I will say written erotica can still promote unhealthy sexual dynamics but it’s not the same as actual pornography. I haven’t come across any studies regarding written erotica and its effects on relationships, but I’d definitely be interested in learning more if anyone has any sources!
I do think drawn pornography is harmful, especially what you can find today. It’s basically stills from real pornography usually combined with a fetish, which become genres: furry pornography, hentai, monster pornography, inflation/vore shit, etc. Even when it’s not fetish content, all of the drawn pornography I’ve seen (literally scrolling on tumblr) features young women, with unrealistic body proportions, and the same insta-baddie face with bedroom eyes. Again, it’s not the same as actual pornography, but it feels like it’s pushing the line witht the visual component.
I’m personally opposed to erotica, just because it’s so difficult to find authors who don’t eroticize domination/submission in heterosexual relationships.
