cradling the em dash in my hands what the fuck have they done to you
we talk about how cis people are just handed a gender and accept it without thought but I think what we fail to mention is that the same happens with sexuality
this extends beyond the bounds of simple heterosexuality. it's also about being told that you enjoy skinny white cis women with button noses and straight hair and no stretch marks and no cellulite etc. lotta gay people never let go of that one!
sorry i need to punch myself i mean punch my dad i mean kill myself i mean kill my dad i mean kill my dad i mean kill my dad i mean kill my dad i mean kill my dad i mean kill my dad i mean kill my dad i mean kill my dad i mean kill my dad i mean kill my dad
people are making cutesy edits and gifs of that spaniard who wore a "make spain great again" hat during the players' parade, some are making edits and gifs of him wearing the fucking hat, and I have seen exactly one (1) post calling him out.
these are the same people who were talking about supporting spain (and england, and france, and switzerland, and "literally anyone but Argentina") over Argentina because ? we are "colonizers" and "spiritually isr*eli" and "nazis" and "all white" and and and.
our players made the statement "las Malvinas son argentinas" and some of y'all reacted like they needed to be publicly executed for this. this asshole wears that hat that says "make spain great again" in the same colour and font as trump's MAGA hats btw, and ? you make cutesy edits of him and share photos of him LITERALLY WEARING THE HAT while looking at another man and all you have to say is "they're so in gay love here 😍😍" ??
truly beyond parody. there's something seriously wrong with so many of you people. your unwillingness to question what you're told, your hunger for propaganda and imperialist dicks down your throats, it's disgusting. what else could I possibly say about this.
NEVER be vulnerable. FLUSH your medication down the toilet. LIE when people ask how you’re doing. SUPPRESS your feelings. ALWAYS be irritable and abrasive. MAKE SURE you push away anyone who’s close to you. CANCEL your therapy appointment.
one of iwtv's key narrative themes was "love and abuse can coexist in the same relationship" but tvl has seemingly replaced that with "love redeems abuse"- instead of engaging with the weight of louis as a survivor of antiblack violence/gaslighting/psychological abuse or engaging with the weight of lestat as a survivor of incestuous sexual/emotional abuse, the narrative condemns loumand and gabistat bc armand and gabriella didn't truly love their victims. the show has this really weird and problematic idea that as long as there's love in a relationship, that can make up for all kinds of harm and violence...but if there's a lack of love that's the breaking point. and i just find that really weak as a theme and disconnected from the emotional reality of abuse survivors- it also feels like a cop-out for the writers to avoid confronting the nature of the abuse of either fan favorite (armand) or author's darling (gabriella) characters.
textually engaging with the fact that armand is a lyncher and the violence he does to louis is often directly pulled from the violence done to black people under enslavement and segregation would mean the nonblack writers would have to textually engage with blackness as a central theme and question their own impulses like why the show disproportionately and voyeuristically depicts the brutalization of black bodies- textually engaging with the fact that gabriella has been raping her own son for over 200 years would mean the misogynistic writers would have to engage with the subject of sexual abuse and assault beyond "louis the pimp" and question their own impulses like why so many of gabriella's scenes with lestat are played for taboo titillation or "comic relief". it's a lot easier to sidestep all of that and go "oh these relationships were fucked up and doomed bc there's no real love there".
and this reductive and anti-survivor take on "love conquers all" even reflects in how the writers approach relationships that aren't meant to be narrative dead-ends. the lack of care in how they wrote loustat this season makes a lot of sense when you realize the writers think they can depict lestat doing and saying all kinds of shit to louis and it doesn't matter, they don't have to show lestat expressing true contrition or growth bc they love each other (or so we're told) abuse doesn't matter if there's love ok
Wow that sucked. If I wanted to watch a team I root for choke and play like shit for 3 hours I could’ve just gone back to watching the Washington Capitals
why was messi lowkey serving saddam hussein hiding spot
we're trying this new strategy where we lobotomize the players before they play the match
Alright I’m watching the tvl finale
The showrunners chose to make Louis and Claudia black and experience life in the Jim crow era. They chose to do the full race swap in season 1, not just making the characters but also the story black. They chose to racialize the violence that both Louis and Claudia face throughout the first season. No one was forcing their hands and they got praised for the stuff they did in the first two seasons, for bringing in the added nuance of systemic racism. So why should I as an audience member of colour give them any grace when they choose to write dialogues containing numerous racialized and gendered micro aggressions not just towards Louis or Claudia but also minor characters like Dee or Lemuel who weren't necessarily supposed to exist as they are (black) in the show?? Why is Daniel (a white man) who is supposed to be a Pulitzer prize winning investigative journalist who was lecturing Louis on his own story about the racism he faced referring to him as a "bucket of Louisiana fried chicken"?? Why is Armand textually belittled for being a CSA victim while Lestat is endlessly provided with grace and understanding in the text of the show for his victimhood?? Who thought it was alright to adapt a scene from the books involving white characters talking about parental betrayal and insert racially charged dialogues (that too old school racist shit not even the n word) when it was unnecessary to preserve the nuance of the scene?? Why is this show denying the racialized nature of domestic violence that they chose to portray in S1 ??? (Lestat getting mildly annoyed that Louis didn't enjoy going to the operas in nola when he had to act as Lestat's servant to be allowed in tf??) Why is Gabriella like that??
I cannot help but look at this season of the show as a sign of the times tbh. IWTV aired during a very liberal era of entertainment and now that fascism and white supremacy is on the rise everywhere white entertainers have become comfortable enough to fall back into old habits. Never thought this show in particular would have this problem when I watched the first season but it is what it is I guess
Since this post is getting a lot of unexpected traction I would like to clarify that I do believe the racial aspect of Claudia's relationship with Louis and Lestat was worth exploring during the seance scene because Claudia experienced mysogynoir and was a woman with a black father who both abused her and was abused by his white partner (also a parent). Claudia's relationship to Louis has an added dimension on the show compared to the book because of their racial ties. While Claudia and Lestat were co-conspirators, Claudia and Louis had to be vary of their white associates together, travel in the back of a bus together, endure the humiliation of segregation together. She textually considered Lestat to be an aggressor who was behaving like a slave owner. To have her acknowledge that in the present day and make her say that she likes Lestat better in the most violently anti-black language to Louis could be an instance of nuanced writing to demonstrate how much Louis let her down despite her loving and trusting him or it could be just written to woobify Lestat. I think it is safe to lean towards the latter interpretation than the former considering the episodes so far.
Alex jones actually popped like a balloon it’s crazy
cake is such an underappreciated band. i can’t believe we brought back low rise flare jeans before we brought back cake in the top 40
i’m just saying cake’s music would be widely regarded as so sexy if it wasn’t for all the mariachi horns and vibraslap and the vocalist didn’t always sound like he was explaining his suicide plans to a gun store clerk in sacramento. the world wasn’t ready for them
The fact that it sounds like a dispassionate reading of a terrorist manifesto is a feature
Man. In Louis’ portrayal of Claudia, he was the favorite. In Lestat’s, Lestat was the favorite. It was never ever ever about her ever. They both make me sick to death man Claudia makes me so sad it’s nauseating.
Oh my god they brought back landlord Shatterstar
