Letters to Will (Live from New York) by sofishortcake (6/? | 46,477 | Mature)
“Thanks for taking care of me, Mike. I didn’t mean to drink this much.” Mike locks the dorm door behind him with a quiet click. He turns to see Will swaying against the wall. “You know, I could’ve had Carlton walk me back. If you wanted to stay at the party.”
Mike laughs, low and sharp, taking a deliberate step closer. “Yeah, I bet he would've loved that. And, please... stop saying his fucking name, okay?” His voice rises, strained with a tension he can’t hide. Other names in Will’s mouth twist his stomach in ways he can’t explain.
Will swallows, gaze dropping. “Sorry, I just meant…I’m so happy you’re here, but I know you’re not just here to see me, and you probably want—”
Mike cuts him off without a second thought. He grabs Will’s arms, and shoves him lightly but firmly against the wall. Their chests collide, faces inches apart, the air between them charged and electric. Will freezes—but Mike doesn’t back down. “Will…you have no idea what I want,” he whispers, eyes dropping to Will’s lips. Every shred of control he’s ever clung to around him melting.
And there truly must be something in the NYC air, because Mike from Hawkins would have never dared to do what he does next.

“I know what you mean, in a way.” Lucas said as the two boys made eye contact, “It feels like you’re drowning, but also so exciting at the same time.”
The boy nodded his head, “Exactly! I’ve never felt it before–” Mike trailed off when a small smirk came on Lucas’ face.
“You know, I only feel it around Max.” Mike’s breath hitched in his throat as Lucas continued to speak, “I think it’s called love. We all know you loved El, but man, the way you have always looked at Will.” He stops his sentence to shake his head, “You would die for that guy, I mean, you almost did.”

It was the summer of 1992, and the Party was spending the Fourth of July with the older young adults at Robin's uncle's house. Mike and Will, now college roommates, are still best friends. Yet, Mike is slowly coming to terms with the realization that he might like Will Byers in more than a best friend way, and always has, with the help of Lucas and the rest of the group.
And Will is coming back to the realization that he was never quite over Mike Wheeler, which everyone else seemed to know.

“You’re not boning, though, right?” he says, suddenly. He doesn’t know why he feels such an urge to bring it up again, as if the thought of Mike boning is not something that is CODE RED #1 at the top of Will's list of things to absolutely never think about. But also. Look–
“What? No, of course I’m not boning,” Mike splutters, turning a violent shade of scarlet, “how would I even hide that from you, I’m with you all the time–”
And then he falls silent, so fast that Will gets tonal whiplash from how fast Mike just went from saying boning over and over again to just clamping his mouth shut and staring at the wall across from them.
Will's trying his hardest to make it through fall semester in one piece. Unfortunately for his degree, he's being haunted by maybe-feelings for his best friend (metaphorically), and also a maybe-ghost with rather abysmal fashion sense (literally).

Will Byers doesn’t consider himself brave.
He considers himself a HD student with a low tolerance for vodka and a talent for leaving early. But bravery, it turns out, isn’t always loud. Sometimes it's handed out like permission slips at crowded college parties: permission to drink too much, to flirt badly, and take a hit from someone else’s cola flavoured vape.

Dustin hums in agreement while he swallows his bite. “It’s like, against his factory settings to say no to you. What do you need him to do, model for you or something?”
Will shoves his face back into his hands. “I’m going to fail.”
Max rolls her eyes. “You’re not going to fail, you’re going to paint Mike.”
Will lifts his head up from his hands, eyes wide, and shakes his head. “You don’t understand.” He pleads with his awful, awful friends, voice low. “He’s been, he’s using my-he came out of my bathroom in just a towel last night.”

Studio art major Will Byers has a study of the human body due before the semester ends, is in desperate need for a model, and has a huge, life-altering, heart wrenching crush on his best friend.
Enter: Mike Wheeler, his broken shower, and his collection of plaid-print boxers.

“So yeah, you could say I’m sexually frustrated,” Will concludes, a wry smile on his face as he finally finishes his rant. “Not to be too graphic, but all I want is a nice, good-looking man who can fuck me hard.” He tips his head towards Mike’s where they're both leaning against the wall, and shuts his eyes for a long moment. “It’s whatever, though. I’ll get ov-”
“I could help you out,” Mike blurts out.
“You- I- What did you say?” Will stammers. Mike squeezes his eyes shut for a long moment, breathes, and then opens them again and meets Will’s gaze determinedly.
“I could help you,” Mike says, with somehow only the slightest tremble of uncertainty in his voice. "As in, we could have sex."
or; Will is struggling. Guys who are nice, hot, AND good in bed are apparently non-existent at their university. Frustrated, he complains to Mike - who makes him an offer he can't refuse.
Unfortunately, there's always an aftermath to hooking up with your best friend.
Meanwhile, Mike has some realisations.
