I’m honestly shocked I haven’t seen this floating around yet, but oh my god — it’s literally all public. You can see it right there in the site’s elements.

It looks like a joke, but they really left all of this in the open code. This is the text from the next riddles that await us soon, all the way up to the very final one, which will end with the phrase

shriek that seemed to echo all around him in the dark.
Where was he? All he could see was inky shadow.
The last thing the Wizard remembered was guiding
his party through King Tristram’s Tomb, in hopes of raising him from the dead with a revivification spell.
Then everything went black.
There it was again—the shriek. Were the walls
around him making that awful noise? The Wizard
conjured a green fireball to light his way. He could see
the tomb clearly now. Its stone walls stood twenty
feet tall on either side of him.
Only, they weren’t stone.
They moved back and forth, and oozed a thick fluid.
They were walls of flesh and blood!
“We’re inside the belly of a Black Dragon,” a voice
said from behind him.
It was his friend, the Bard. He was part of the
Wizard’s party. “The noise we keep hearing is its roar.”
-“There haven’t been dragons in this region
for a century,” the Wizard said.
(Correction: They’ve been here. We just haven’t
seen them in a century. These dragons use their
spellcraft to walk invisibly among us and eat our
loved ones.)
The Wizard suddenly remembered.
-“What of our Ranger? And our Cleric?”
The Bard merely pointed ahead.
-“I heard screams coming from that way.”
The Bard and the Wizard knew what they had to
do if they wanted to live to see the morrow and see
their friends. They’d have to venture to the beast’s
heart by firelight and kill the creature.
Or risk being slowly digested for a millennium.
The Wizard and the Bard waded through ankle-deep
swamp waters.
After the skin on their ankles began to sting and
burn, they realized they’d been traveling for hours
through the dragon’s stomach acid.
-“Cast a protection spell for us so that we don’t
suffer any further,” the Bard requested.
The Wizard shook his head. “I’m afraid I cannot.
I’m concentrating all my magic on lighting our way and sensing our friends—if they’re still alive.”
-“We are!” someone said in the distance.
The Wizard’s green fireball illuminated
undigested bones—and the figures of two people using them like rafts to float safely. It was the Ranger and the Cleric!
The party was reunited!
But they weren't the only ones undigested.
Shapes began to move all around them in the acid, like a school of fish. There was a furry of movement, a splash, and then another splash, until finally, a few heads popped up. They were scaly, spiky domes with fangs and tails.
-"Beware!" the Cleric cried.
-"It's BLOODSEEKERS!"
Thanks to the acid bath, the skin on the Lizard-Like Bloodseekers peeled off in strips as they swarmed the party, exposing their skulls underneath. They appeared zombified-
Like undead miniature dragons.
It was a horrific sight!
The Wizard froze.
-"How would his party survive this?
-"Fireball them!" the Ranger shouted.
-"Cast protection!" the Bard interrupted.
-"Hurry!" the Cleric pleaded.
As the party members fought the Bloodseekers back with the hones that were floating all around them, the Wizard saved his energy and instead used his wisdom to hatch a plan. If it's blood they want, it's blood they'll have! The Wizard cast a spell of Mass Suggestion over the ravenous Bloodseekers. In an ancient tongue only the beasts could understand, he spoke an unholy incantation. suddenly, the Bloodseekers turned away from the party and began climbing the walls. They moved together as if they had a hive mind and soon began to make their ascent toward a dark hole.
The party members dropped their bones and
Looked at each other, confused.
- "What did you tell them?" the Cleric asked.
- "Where are they going?"
The Wizard said with a smile,
- "I merely suggested the feast they craved was not our blood but the heart of the very dragon we're trapped in! Follow the herd-they'll show us the way to our freedom!"
With a little teleportation help from the Wizard, the party was lifted. They too climbed the walls with ease, defying all logic and human capability, and kept pace with the Bloodseekers.
They followed the chattering swarm as they crossed over, soon realizing they were heading for a crimson mountain that moved in rhythm. It was the dragon's heart!
The Bloodseekers began to tear it to shreds, chomping faster and faster until the Shriek came once more. The sound was different now. It brought with it a horrible heat.
In his wisdom, the Wizard knew what was about to happen. With his last ounce of energy, he cast a protection spell around the party just as a white-hot blaze engulfed them. A wall of fire shot up around the heart,
burning the Bloodseekers alive...
And carrying the party to safety on a stream of fames.
*classic childhood best friends to lovers jealousy devolving into a "it's time to grow up" fight*
*time to cry out of a car window over my best friend being with someone else*
*emotionally pining while bestie and other love interest seem to be having a good time laughing* *conveniently misses the moment of tension between the couple only seconds before*
Funfact: Supposedly Writer John Hughes and Director Howard Deutch collaborated again on Some Kind of Wonderful to rectify everything they disliked about Pretty in Pink. And what was the enormous difference between the two? In Pretty in Pink, Andie ends up choosing the cool love interest, Blane, over her best friend, Duckie. In Some Kind of Wonderful, the main character, Kieth, ends up choosing his tom-boyish best friend, Watts, over the cool girl, Amanda. (Their relationship is developed differently to make the story make sense, though.)
With all the references to Pretty in Pink in Stranger Things, I find these parallels kind of interesting. It could definitely be a coincidence, but it's still cool to see how Byler's story uses these romantic storytelling devices :)
