We Do Not Like The Concrete Tomb.
This is our most popular post and we've seen more than one person tag it as "unreality." We understand why one might think that but we assure you: it was not.
These facilities chew you up. They suck the life from you and grind your body to dust to extract every ounce of profit they can.
These places destroy the body, the mind, and the soul.
Kinda cursed motorics skills
personally I am of the opinion that vegans who are like “the way our food system currently works under capitalism on a large scale is exceptionally cruel to all animals including humans and is not sustainable, so I’m doing what I can to make the most ethical choices available to me about what I eat and encourage others to do the same” are generally very reasonable people who I agree with in spades. but vegans who seem to think human beings are not themselves animals who are ultimately also part of the food chain but instead some kind of other paternalistic higher entity that can never engage in ethical and sustainable hunting practices (and especially the fringe I’ve seen who think other carnivorous animal predators are also evil and need to be eliminated) are people I regard as foolish at best if not actively anti-indigenous and racist
the hades chapter will always be my roman empire
the human brain is so cool, if you're tired and stressed enough, your brain will go, "don't worry, I got you" and shadows will start moving
and what's the genital situation on the shadows
oh this is my post
@shit-hdb-would-say
And the award for racist comment of the month goes to:
You did it! You fixed the rez! Let's all just move to Seattle :)
Racist user who hears that Native Americans that cannot afford health insurance nor new school supplies believes they will magically have money to move out of their reservations
Up until 1941 in Canada Indians required a pass from a (white) Indian Agent to leave the reserve. This was enforced by the North West Mounted Police.
https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/pass-system-in-canada
This is where the phrase "going off the reservation" comes from. From pass systems that restricted the movement of certain ethnic groups. (aka segregation)
A reserve is not a city slum, it's more like a tiny country. Some are extremely remote.
Some reserves are only accessible by ice bridge, or barge, or bush plane. Some reserves still largely don't speak English or French.
ID:
1: a reply by roguesynapses that says "tell that to my cousins on the Rez who are 40 miles from the nearest hospital, don't have health insurance, and have been using the same school supplies for 20 years" maknaaafalti replies, saying, in all caps, "move to fucking seattle!!! you are a citizen with equal rights! you are not racially segregated to the fucking sticks."
2: tags by ablednt that say "undescribed. obsessed with you are not racially segregated to the fucking sticks. like. yes they literally are??? guy who uses most narrow definition of segregation physically possible to pretend racism was fixed in the 60s" end ID

I don’t usually post about acquisitions from the NYC Trans Archives, but this one is too cool not to share. We recently obtained 1 of the 2 known remaining copies of the censored 1933 German booklet “Wie erlange ich eine vollendete Büste?” (“How do I achieve a perfect bust?”). It advertises an early estrogen compound using a patient who was assigned male at birth.
The text shows that not only were hormones readily available to trans people in the 1930s, but actively advertised to them. Nazis targeted this specific book in the 1930s, leaving only a few copies left in existence. This text, along with hundreds of other rare trans books, zines, and ephemera, will be available for viewing next year when NYCTA opens to the public.

Give me more walls of text RPGS I like reading
While i really do like Avowed I think it's a shame they moved away from the crpg inspired genre because the world of Eora simply doesn't fit the action adventure vibe. It literally wasn't built for it.
And then especially disappointing because Deadfire was such a great improvement on gameplay and style. If they had just kept up the refinement instead of completely switching gears Avowed could've been a far better and more focused game.
Because Avoweds best moments come from where the text is allowed to take up most of the heavy lifting again.
An RPG always has to make concessions with its aesthetics and its ability to give you an extensive role playing experience and Avowed sacrificed a lot of the RPG experience and depth so it appears more non-crpg player friendly. (and my theory console friendly)
And given how Obsidian is know as a writing-heavy studio it feels like a real shooting yourself in the foot moment.
playing zero parades demo and it just feels..... so empty to me. of course, i will try to compare it to disco elysium simply because it still IS trying to emulate disco elysium. like i can't fail the creatives since they're standing on the graveyard of a game that won best indie game, but from the get-go, you aren't really given much freedom on how your character is going to be. they drop the lore on you in the MOST uninteresting way.
this is just from the first ten minutes of playing the game, and already it's lumped with Big Words that's reminiscent of disco elysium. the difference is that you're a failcop and your stats talk to you and they're humorous about it. in this game, you're a spy with a heavy political agenda. you're Big Commie Spy. it isn't even satirical, it's just on-the-nose i was rich but i was awakened by the mass' plight.
like it tries so hard to both be harry and kim all at once. but it comes across as flat. and when you fail, it doesn't even come off as funny. it just is. you just failed.
and that's another thing i want to talk about. disco elysium rewards you for failing and for trying again. it's hopeful. it shows that trying again will reap rewards as long as you keep trying. but in zero parades, the stakes are so high (failed three times as soon as playing the game because it needs you to reach a total of 10 out of 11) and if you fail? you fail. you get delusion and anxiety instead of your HP and morale. and when you exceed your anxiety, you won't get a black screen but they will punish you for failing by lowering a skill of yours down to a point.
it's quite harsh too, especially on a female character. why is there a need to punish her? isn't it just much better to let her fail and then let her try again? or aren't there any tools that can help soothe her anxiety instead of bargaining to lower it instead of a black screen?
alao idk what to say with this being in her file. you don't get to explore the character on your own. they just spoonfeed you and put some funny haha line that isn't really funny haha. i don't know why the main character's sexuality is so important in this point in time. it came off as weird....
still don't know what to say about this. i tried making her goofy but it comes so flat to me and there's no one else to bounce off of! not even the skills talk about how MASSIVE OF A FAILURE you are or how embarrassing that was. or not even a comfort from one of the lines. you trudge on forward as if nothing happened.
this is. i don't know what to say. it's just.
i couldn't help but compare this to harry moment because there's been so many times he pulled that "it's his fault!!!" line at kim when he knows he's in trouble. still though, it doesn't work in this particularly scenario because you're alone and not even the voices in your head can help you out. they just say one line until another stat talks to you. what do you mean by that doppelgäng. i need to know (she never answered back or even commented on how much of a spineless piss poor fuck i am)
this scene really reminded me of kim asking harry, "the dead body. has it been taken down yet?" and you avoid him in six different ways but this one only gives you three dialogue choices until you reach to the third dialogue choice, which is "yes". but also this scenes shows how much you need someone else to react in the world because to YOU, as the character, your behaviour is normal. so this exchange with melita doesn't feel like anything. it doesn't feel like what you said is incredibly fucked-up because to us it's normal. not one of your stats talk. there's just dead air.
this was funny until it got old too fast because you can do it again and again. the "three to five thousand revolutions per minute", like am i stupid or what does that mean? is it because she's a communist that they added that in instead? what's going on here. genuinely.
i don't know. the fact that they had to spoonfeed you all these information at the first minute instead of exploring the world for yourself and finding out about these things. i know disco elysium tends to drop a thousand-worded lore on you that's thicker than the lord of the rings trilogy but it doesn't do it in the first minute of the game. it makes you explore. you literally don't know shit, which makes things more interesting because as the player, you don't know who harry is either and even is his reactions to certain memories of the past that it also catches us off-guard.
zero parades gives you a character that already has a sexuality. that already has a political ideology without your choosing. i think my main problem with this game is that it still latches itself onto the success of disco elysium that trying to break away from it and creating a new gameplay becomes even more difficult. because that is what ZA/UM is known for. and the shitheads in-charge are now trying to recreate a disco elysium that takes itself too seriously, while also trying to be goofy that misses the beat. even the narrator is trying to be the narrator in disco elysium, and the changes in the voice when portraying the other skills can come off as.... well. i don't know how to describe it.
even the beginning is very much harry talking to ancient reptilian brain and limbic system. but it's just a drop of your character's history and not.... a dive into your character's psyche and emotions. and what was she doing in the bathroom anywqufnejsjdsm
also to say that the entire thing felt painful as it was only herschel being goofy and nobody else adding to it. disco elysium's characters are just as goofy as harry, if not more. they're just as comedic with the way they talk to harry, but zero parades.... this is just the demo so i wouldn't say too much but again, a help from your skills saying how bad that was or how the description of you failing would've been interesting to see.
this would've worked, i think, if the main character is a spy that requires the help of a deadpan journalist that can help her navigate the world. i love having a female character and a female narrator for a change, because THERES TOO MANY CISHET MEN!!!!!! but like i can't help but feel it be so empty. also can't help but feel about herschel being a cool, hot woman is them stereotyping a spy like can't we have old woman yuri instead with herschel being a fat woman who deals in intel gathering. isn't that what spies are
i really tried. so hard. to disengage my brain from diso elysium brain. but each click is just a reskinned version of disco elysium, with the texts and logo being too small at times and almost difficult to navigate. they could've gone with klaasje's story instead of all this, with a life prior to martinaise. to the investigation.
herschel would've been more likable if she didn't get stuck with the harry du bois formula because it wouldn't have worked on her world + career. i don't think the spy world would be as forgiving as a bunch of undermanned cops in a city too.
it almost feels as though they went for style instead of substance but we'll see.
so anyway i started playing the zero parades demo tn bc im very curious to follow each of the "disco elysium spiritual successor" games and its. this is spoiler-free btw! idk its got me a bit melancholy so far. of course its visually stunning. like just gorgeous. obviously. and i'm interested in the story hook and it's had a couple very bright flashes of humor and suspense already (alongside some jokes that rly don't land and some clues that feel corny/escape room-y). i like the opening twist of how you DON'T meet up with your trusty partner for the case. and i like the fatigue/anxiety/delirium system that replaces health/morale.
but the writing so far feels insecure. as if its totally unsure of what it's supposed to sound like or be about, other than "disco elysium spiritual successor." the setting doesnt feel like anything yet except elysium w the serials scraped off, it's just 🤌🤌 stylistically rootless imo. or rather, we know where its roots are and they're in elysium. a different world. like. there is a sense that the visuals and sounds of disco elysium were created to communicate what revachol, the pre-existing, lovingly fleshed out place, is LIKE. there is a sense that characters' politics are partial expressions of the decades of worldbuilding done for elysium, and the writers' strong opinions and backgrounds. the substance use function is there instead of, say, health potions or a recharging stamina bar, bc it's a development of harry as a character, as an addict.
but why is portofiro painted in this art style? because martinaise was, and martinaise looked beautiful. why do you have to decide cascade's feelings on communism in the first scene, with no context for how communism functions in this world? because disco (over the course of the entire game) posed that question, and disco was provocative. why does cascade pick up drugs and alcohol off the ground to use as health items? because it made sense when harry did it. why doesn't cascade get a mission briefing? because disco started with you waking up in a hostel room not knowing what your objective is, so parades has to start like that too. why does cascade, a woman, have an incomprehensible feminist agenda?? well—yk? none of these things feel native to this game.
i can't forget for a SECOND of this demo what happened to za/um bc they won't give me anything to focus on other than how much the studio wants to replicate disco's success as a product, seemingly without repeating the creative processes that made it. just reproducing the things that worked without interrogating why they were done that way. it's early to judge but i guess i was, fsr, hoping to be surprised.
Good grief zero parades' writing is bafflingly bad. All posturing zero human depth
big agree. whatever you think might be in the ZP writing wise, i promise you it's worse.
context for this was MC seeing an attractive man and her nipple hardens... but only the right one. when asking why only the right one, the skill says "because the left one hasn't seen him yet."
i mean idk it might have been funnier if i actually GAF about the character or the story or anything going on in this demo but it's all just so tryhard and blah.
Re: tags no no it's cool, thanks for this one example, I should go fetch some of my own to back my claims. There's a whole range. Clunky dialogue trees, fancy words that don't say anything underneath, a nominally communist pov character whose interiority doesn't reflect that in any way that matters, a lack of internal characterization, a lack of reactivity, YA-tier spy work, the occasional odd railroading...
Trust me when I say
