As of right now, today, I am no longer receiving any sort of income whatsoever. I’m at the health and human services office applying for food stamps and cash benefits right now. Many people donated to me to help me save for an apartment, but at my datemate urging and because I still have to wait a full 2 months if not more to first get approved for disability, and then the time it takes them to send the first check, I ended up getting a car. I have an old used 99 vehicle with 120,000 miles on it. I can now take myself to my appointments, food shopping, and potentially get a part time job. But between the costs of the car and repairs, my PayPal is now completely cleared out. My grandparents ended up helping with some of the expenses.

A friend has been singlehandedly supporting me for the past several years, but today they need to stop and take care of their own finances. I have $30 left to my name, that is all.

I am likely to be approved for food stamps but I don’t know if I will receive financial assistance, I have no idea if or when I will be receiving disability.

My final goal is still to save up, get approved for disability, and move out of my grandparents house. We are bearably getting along for now, and being able to leave the house has helped ease tensions as well, but I am 25 and mentally unstable and disabled, my grandparents are Trump supporters, I don’t think I need to say anything else. I need to be able to move out and start living my own life and practicing self-care without anything distracting me or holding me back.

I am so grateful for all the help I have received so far, but I continue to need help.

Here’s where other POC are erasing Native Hawaiian identity, history and experience.  They have taken Hawaiian out of the conversation completely, by totally denying the fact that Native Hawaiians exist, are the indigenous people to the land, and have a movie set in their home using their language (’Olelo Hawai’i). My name is Mari and I’m a trans and intersex Latinx with BPD and PTSD, trying to afford my psychiatry appointments. My psychiatrist and I are currently testing various medications in an effort to find one (or many) that can better treat my symptoms of erratic mood swings, severe suicidal ideation, depression, impulsiveness and more. Unfortunately, I’m currently an unemployed student living with my family of 5 in low income housing off of child support checks that are rarely paid on time. Because of this, I can’t afford to keep seeing my psychiatrist despite being in desperate need of psychiatric help. 

I have been using my supply of saved up birthday money but my last appointment (June 3rd) was the last of that and I officially have nothing more. I’m asking for help because I’m in desperate need. My appointments are constant, every week, and my next appointment is on June 9th. I’m hoping that my goal of $510 can cover my appointments for the rest of the summer before I get my work study job in September. My life is on the line here as I have no where to turn. Any help, even if it’s a few dollars, will be graciously accepted. For reference, appointments cost $30 each. I would appreciate any signal boosting that can be done.

Dear people who upload my doujin,

Hi, I am 讃岐そば太郎. I have decided to write to you, because I wanted to make my point clear about redistribution of my pics and doujin.

Usually I am happy to see my works being translated and I even enjoy reading them. I don’t stop people from translating my works and redistributing it.

But I am definitely against redistribution of a whole copy of doujin(book).

Recently I have found my copy of doujin, The Record being translated and shared on web. It was a full copy of my doujin.

Please understand the fact that I am actually selling doujin. It is completely different from what I am doing on web.

I pay money to print it and pay even more to join doujin events. I pay to send doujin to event halls and pay to send it back to my home. I pay for my own transportation and I pay to hire people who sell my doujin on events(I pay for their working-hours, lunch, and transportation).

And people who are interested in my works also pay to read it.

I understand the fact that it is not easy to buy doujin abroad, and I guess even if it was available, you might feel that it is too expensive. But even in Japan, doujin is not so cheap. It is not cheap for both creators and readers. If you think it is not worth the money your paying or you have to pay, just stick with what you can find on web. Stay away from uploading copies of doujin.

There are creators who really make money and earn living from doujin, but those who can do so, are minority. Most of us pay more than what we earn, but we still want to enjoy doujin as a hobby(or at least I do). But obviously, if I can’t afford it, I have to start using my time for something else and give up on writing(creating manga doesn’t happen in a flash). That’s the last thing which will happen if people continue to upload my doujin on web.  I think I have made my point clear and I hope there are people who support what I am saying.

Also, I would like to articulate that what I wrote here is only “in my case”.

There are doujin-creators who are totally against redistribution of whatever they make or upload on web(“In my case” I don’t mind poeple to redistribute what I have already uploaded on web/usually it is pics and doujin-samples). 

In that case you might find your self in trouble, so try asking the creator or if you find the word “転載禁止”, stay away from it. Thanks for reading.

On December 12, 1944, locked inside Auschwitz, Polish teenager Fania turned twenty. After spending a year in a concentration camp, Fania didn’t expect her birthday to even be remembered - but her best friend, Zlatka, risked everything to make her a birthday present, a paper heart. 

Simply making the heart - or carrying it - could get either of them killed.

The heart was signed by many of their friends, bearing notes in Polish, German, French, and Hebrew that announced "When you get old, put your glasses on your nose, take this album in your hand and read my signature again,“ and “Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!” It was an act of great sacrifice and love for a friend.

Less than 40 days later, they began the Death March from Auschwitz to Ravensbruck, and from Ravensbruck to freedom. Fania carried the heart under her arm the whole time. And survived.

Fania donated the heart to the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Center in 1988, where it is a featured piece of their exhibit. You can read more about the story of Fania and Zlatka in  Meg Wiviott’s Paper Hearts, coming September 2015.
