are you five nights at fucking kidding me
Former Minnesota Vikings punter, Chris Kluwe, who was blacklisted from the league for standing up for marriage equality, speaks at a city council meeting where he calls Trump a Nazi. He is subsequently arrested and carried out by police.
I just want to clarify a few things, because I have a feeling some people may share this without watching the video in full and/or getting further details from related news articles:
Kluwe was there to specifically protest the installation of a [massively cringe] pro-Trump plaque. Per ABC News: "Kluwe, a Huntington Beach resident, was protesting the council's decision to place a plaque commemorating the public library's anniversary. The plaque included the words "Magical Alluring Galvanizing Adventurous," an apparent nod to President Donald Trump's Make America Great Again slogan."
Kluwe was not just arbitrarily hauled off by cops for speaking out against Trump. If you watch the video until the end, you'll hear him announce his intentions to engage in the "time-honoured American tradition of peaceful civil disobedience." From there, he defiantly approaches the stage where the seven [aforementioned cringe, right-wing lunatic] Huntington Beach City Council members are all sitting, knowing full well that he is about to be arrested and charged with disrupting an assembly.
Thanks to this deliberate act of protest, some of Trump's 24/7 news blitz will now be interrupted by images of a former NFL player being carted away by a gaggle of dour looking cops:
(this is a good thing, if that's not clear; I feel like too many people have forgotten about the tactical use of arrests by activists, especially during the Civil Rights era, to highlight injustice or disrupt a media narrative)
Anyway, kudos to Mr Kluwe for this, I hope more public figures will follow suit.
this is one of my favorite english words. and what i aim to become.
in my latin class we ran across this word while reading the aeneid. it wasn't in any dictionary bc virgil made it up to apply to aeneas. our best translation was 'malewife.'
you have to outlive donald trump
imagine how funny the internet will be on the day he dies.
There is no way of accidentally doing a nazi salute twice in a row while the entire world is watching. This man needs to be killed
And I mean he does need to be killed. I remember a time when the obvious and most socially acceptable answer to what you would do if you could travel back in time was to kill Hitler before he rose to power. That is just what everyone said. Saying that nazis and fascism are bad was not seen as a controversial opinion it was simply a fact. This was not a long time ago and I am sure the vast majority of people reading this remember this as well. Elon Musk needs to be killed. Obviously.
As we see a barrage of evil executive orders come in, they are not immediately enforceable and will takes months or years to implement.
That’s still not great, but don’t let these pile up to the point of hopelessness. Take a breath, and look community leaders who will fight it every step of the way.
Reminder that when Trump was in office before a LOT of his orders got overturned or held up in lower courts for long enough that they became irrelevant. It also does not mean they WILL be enforced. Stand with your community where you can. The fight is not over. Do not obey in advance.
Last sentence above is the most important. Tyranny requires people to shut up and fall in line. Do not obey in advance.
tiktok stunt haha funny. please talk about the ice raids
even though theyre officially starting on tueaday once trump is in office the raids have already started in central california since sunday and idk where else. people havent been able to go to work becuz ice is literally patroling the streets and targeting places where majority brown people work. please keep aware and talk to ppl in your life who might not be
just to clarify because a lot of ppl reblogged this post
This week, U.S. Customs conducted unannounced raids in the Central Valley, detaining 78 undocumented immigrants from Fresno and Kern County.
it was border patrol and not technically ice raids that happened in my city but it happened so suddenly there was a lot of confusion. this is just what has happened in my city and nearby, so i don't want to spread misinformation and i can't say what has happened in other places. but it is important to watch for these things regardless. i live in california but i dont live anywhere near the border so border patrol isnt normally seen here!
Reminder: Border Patrol is allowed to operate within 100 miles of any part of the US border. This includes 75% of major cities in the USA, including NYC, LA, Chicago, Miami, Boston, Baltimore, Seattle, both Portlands, Detroit, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, and Milwaukee.
They've started in central and southern California already. Family members there have been telling me about it. Other relatives in Chicago have said the same.

“Rich kids should go to public schools. The mayor should ride the subway to work. When wealthy people get sick, they should be sent to public hospitals. Business executives should have to stand in the same airport security lines as everyone else. The very fact that people want to buy their way out of all of these experiences points to the reason why they shouldn’t be able to. Private schools and private limos and private doctors and private security are all pressure release valves that eliminate the friction that would cause powerful people to call for all of these bad things to get better. The degree to which we allow the rich to insulate themselves from the unpleasant reality that others are forced to experience is directly related to how long that reality is allowed to stay unpleasant. When they are left with no other option, rich people will force improvement in public systems. Their public spirit will be infinitely less urgent when they are contemplating these things from afar than when they are sitting in a hot ER waiting room for six hours themselves.”

the idea that suffering (usually in silence) is a virtue has wreaked havoc on our culture, and capitalism has been all too happy to co-opt it. fuck the protestant work ethic, being in pain does not make me a better person, fuck you
