Thinking about Drew breaking down when she finally convinces herself to talk to Clarrise and feeling like she’s drowning in grief and guilt. Drew who’s feeling her body shutting down from exhaustion and pressure she had felt over the past few months.

Thinking about Drew waking up in the Ares cabin, because Clarrise didn’t know if bringing her back to cabin 10 is a good idea, and because on some level she didn’t want to lose her little sister again, and finally feeling wanted and loved again.

Thinking about Drew whose disappearance is only noticed after a week of her staying in the Ares cabin.

Thinking about Piper who calls an emergency counselor meeting, right before lunch, and tells everyone she lost Drew.

Thinking about Clarrise who’s fuming with rage, but calmly and slowly, word by word, lays out exactly how badly Piper fucked up.

And then, in the same uncannily calm voice, she gets every single person, from a cabin with more than two people, to tell Piper how exactly they make sure they don’t lose a camper.

And everyone complies, because they all realize, that, due to the timing, it’s clear that Piper had called the meeting a few hours too late. And if Drew was actually missing at that time, it would mean that she went missing/was last seen yesterday evening, and by the time they had the meeting she would’ve been already dead.

clarisse geniuenly grieving her crew and feeling like she's failed them because she believes camaraderie and caring about your team comes first sets up her decision to not participate in the war in the final book so well. if you don't respect her team then she doesn't respect you and it's so much better than her just not being helpful... which then caused silena to do what she does because she also knows clarisse won't budge because she's a leader who stands up for her team first and a warrior only second ohh clarisse la rue im simply too seated for your leader/war commander (idk her title sorry) + yuri arc

im not sure how much this is going to make sense, but i feel like a lot of people see percy as a lot more mentally stable than he actually is

this might also just be me misremembering, but i think thats only slightly

the main thing that makes me say this is two things, 1. percy having very clear suicidal thoughts in tlt, 2. percy mentally saying ‘i could start anywhere in my short miserable life’ on page two of tlt

from the start, percy has been suicidal. the first time we hear him directly say he wished he could drown was a 100+ pages into the first book, but considering his internal dialouge, what he actually says, what he thinks about his life- i wouldnt doubt for even a second that hes wanted to die before that, probably for years before we actually see him

this got long.

and while that part is mostly speculation, him just. Not Getting Better is straight up canon. he says he wants to die again in som, and while i dont remember much of the rest of the series i do know what hes like in the later books- with how fucking lost he is. he doesnt know what hes doing for college, he has no plans at all, he only really talks to his family along with annabeth and grover- does he actually have friends aside from those two?

AND ITS NOT EVEN THAT. i dont really think him and grover were the best of friends in tlt, and id say the same goes for him and tyson in som. those relationships, to me, seemed more transactional. for percy and grover, grover had to be his friend, percys a demigod and hes a saytr its his job to watch over and protect the demigods he finds, while percy seemed to only be his friends because there wasnt anyone else that wanted to be around him, but also because he felt a need to protect grover as well, though for a different reason id say the same goes for percy and tyson too, as their relationship was very bluntly started to be something that formed because percy felt bad for him and was the only person to actually protect him basically he doesnt have friends. the only people he seems to actually solidly consider his friends are annabeth and grover (is demiplatonic a thing /hj) and even with rachel too the relationship is transactional! she wants a way into the godly world and he wants a way out, and they both give each other that! they also dont even talk that much after the war is over (though i mostly blame that on rick)

but also, percy is an extremely angry guy- it makes sense he wouldnt have too many friends. like i said, the only friends he actually seems to be full on friends with started from purely transactional relationships, then due to proximity they bonded and became actual friends, percy is hard to be friends with! the first line he says in the books is ‘im going to kill her’ while literally getting ready to stand up and punch nancy. that is a fantastic way to characterize a character because it tells us so much about him! hes easily angered, prone to violence if he feels like its necessary, and doesnt really think through the consequences of whatll happen as we see from grover pulling him back and reminding him hes on probation he gets angry at grover in tlt when he thinks he might be rich, he gets angry at annabeth pretty often in tlt, out of the three of them he is the most effected by ares when they meet him considering we dont really see annabeth or grover getting actually mad by his presence, at least not in the way/to the extent percy was

i think percys anger couldve been shown really well later on, as we really only see it at the start of tlt and then it kinda just. simmers down. and sure that couldve been because he learned to get it under control or because he was just too busy to be angry, but the potential of him not being able to control it? him lashing out at the people he cares about, him scaring the shit out of luke because he is just pure hatred when they meet, maybe it couldve been shown in his relationship with sally too. he doesnt want to hurt her, we all know this, he loves her more than anything! but i think theres something really interesting in the possibility that mayve he did hurt her, obviously not on purpose, but maybe it left a visible scar that he sees everytime he sees her. we know sally wasnt always there, she was pretty neglectful throughout his childhood just because he was always at school and she was always at work, but maybe part of that neglect is regret on her end- regret that she drove percy to anger so bad it hurt her, and a small part of her saying shes scared of him- and even more scared of how similar he is to his father neither of them want this, of course, they love each other, but them both accidentally hurting each other and seeing it everytime they see each other? thats just AOUGH. good shit i say

and like. THERES SO MUCH WE CAN DO WITH THIS. we can make percy so much like his father and he knows this and thinking about it makes him physically sick because he knows what his father is like, what he does when hes angry, and percy knows that one minor inconvience has the chance to send him over the edge and make him the same. and it can also tie back into my ‘percy and poseidon is nature vs nurture’ post, where poseidon is the version of percy where he exists without consequence or fear of himself from living in the world he does

like. percy is obviously not doing okay, but hes like. not doing okay. he barely seems to be living life, and more just going through the motions just because its expected of him. hes expected to go to college with annabeth even though the original thought was a throaway line, hes expected (mostly by the fandom) to be annabeths trophy husband even though he was financially abused, hes expected to continue fighting for the gods and doing shit for them for who knows how long and the one time he actually says no is when someone dies- he doesnt see a way out. everyone expects everything from him, they expect him to be perfect, and considering hes most likely mythologically famous a lot of people/beings he meet in new rome probably arent gonna know anything about his thoughts- hell id say not even annabeth sally or grover actually know his thoughts reading cottg, he really just seems like someone whos given up on life and is just doing what hes ‘supposed’ to be doing and whats asked of him with very little pushback, and while we do see him having fun every now and then, it doesnt really last for long. he literally has a panic attack and scares the shit out of a god! he is not fucking doing okay! hes hated himself and his life from the start of the series, its somewhat implied hes been suicidal (at least passivley) for a good while now (even before the books take place), and i find it so interesting that rick is letting nico heal and move on, along with a few other demigods that he actually cares to give screen time to, while percy is literally just. existing. sure hes not trying to kill himself, but it really feels like hes doing the bare minimmun to stay alive, and the only reason for that is because its expected of him

I know it's been said before, but Luke and Percy have the SAME initial viewpoint, that the gods are corrupt. They AGREE on it, even if they never say it to each other. Luke is Percy through a distorted, angry mirror. That's probably why Luke wanted to recruit Percy. Because he could tell that Percy agreed with his idea, but not his methods

this is so unbelievably important to understand both of them please.

luke is what percy would have become if he hadn't made friends. Luke was always pushed to be the Golden Boy; taught he was only worthy of his dad's love if he succeeded in every quest, and proved himself over and over and over again. he became the best swordsman in camp. he become everybody's friend, likeable and kind and cool. he became camp's first quester in years, even if he failed.

but despite that he was never able to make himself Enough . do people seem to get that. he was pushed and pushed and pushed to be Perfect to be Amazing to be the gods' Favorite, and he wasn't even a big three kid, and he was just so sick. of being Used for entertainment again and again and again and again and again and thats why he turned traitor and joined Kronos and almost killed everyone.

And then percy comes along and once everyone gets over their suspicions of him being a Bad Luck Kid because his dad is poseidon they start pushing him to be Perfect and Amazing and the gods' Favorite because he's got magic! And he's been on quests! and he's a good swordsman! but unlike luke, percy never followed what they wanted for him. because he's percy for fuck's sake like is there a single point in the goddamn series where he actually does what people expect of him. he has never fit in anywhere and that includes people's expectations and his friends and family know it. but what he knows that his friends and family don't is that the reason he's like that is because he only allows himself to fit in their expectations. fatal flaw something something personal loyalty something something. percy is whoever the people he cares about want him to be because they are what anchors him,

, but where the problem comes is what could have happened if he didnt. because we know percy is scary powerful. we know percy can control blood and poison and tears and a whole lot of other shit he never talks about because he has promised himself he'll never use those powers again for morality's sake. but. but. Percy has been Pushed and Pushed and Pushed until he was sooo sick of being used, just like Luke was. he's Nineteen and its been two years since he first thought to himself on the argo ii "i can kind of understand where luke was coming from." and then he told himself to shut up but still. he thought it.

percy will never become what luke was but he is scared that he will. and i truly believe that that is why he starts to pull back from quests and shit after the giant war. part of it is because he's so sick of being used by the olympians. a bigger part of it is he has sworn to his friends and family that he won't volunteer to go in danger anymore. the biggest part of it is. he doesn't Trust Himself. because he didn't trust Luke and everybody is always saying he's So Much Like Luke and he wishes they would stop saying that because even though they're trying to compliment him, because luke was a great swordsman and a great Hero and a great friend, all it does is make him think. could he turn out like Luke? No matter how much he doesn't want to. what if he hurts someone on accident? what if the next quest is the one that pushes him over the edge?

How far does the prophecy from The Lightning Thief stretch across the Percy Jackson and The Olympians series? Spoilers Ahead!

"You shall go west and face the god who has turned."

1. In The Lightning Thief, Percy, alongside his friends Annabeth and Grover, travels from New York to Los Angeles to retrieve his mother, Sally, from the underworld and confront the god who stole Zeus's lightning bolt.

2. In The Lightning Thief, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover discover Ares is in alliance with a revolt to free Kronos. Percy fights Ares and successfully secures Zeus's lightning bolt.

"You shall find what was stolen and see it safely returned."

1. In The Lightning Thief, Percy returns Zeus's lightning bolt. Conversely, Hades, who kidnapped Sally, returns her home.

2. In The Sea of Monsters, Polyphemus the Cyclops is stated to have stolen the Golden Fleece to improve the nature of his Island and lure Satyrs to their death. Conversely, Luke Castellan and his crew are stated to try and steal the Golden Fleece to quicken Kronos's resurrection.

3. In The Titan's Curse, Atlas holds Annabeth and Artemis hostage, and Percy, alongside his quest partners Grover, Thalia, Bianca, and Zoe, travels west and rescues them.

1. In The Lightning Thief, Luke lures Percy into the woods, reveals he stole the lightning bolt and that he's working with Kronos to bring about the downfall of Olympus. In doing so, Luke, Percy's former friend, tries to hurt him and, inadvertently, sets Percy's story in motion.

2. In The Battle of the Labyrinth, Percy, Annabeth, Nico, and Rachel discover that Luke allows Kronos to use his body as a vessel to bring about the downfall of Olympus.

1. In The Lightning Thief, Percy fails to retrieve his mother from the underworld. Thus, his initial motivation for going on the quest remains unfulfilled.

2. In The Lightning Thief, Percy cannot convince Luke that bringing about the rise of Kronos is not an efficient way to dismantle a neglectful system between the Gods and demigods. This conversation is the catalyst for the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.

3. In The Last Olympian, Percy hands Luke the knife. Luke stabs himself in his Achilles Spot, stopping Kronos from rising, and preserving Olympus. It took the death of a hero fallen from grace to dismantle a neglectful system. From the beginning, Luke was destined to be beyond saving.

luke fumbling in recruiting percy has to be one of his greatest failures. a beautiful thing the show does regarding luke and percy's relationship is building rapport between them through shared moments like settling into camp, eating meals together, but especially through swordfighting lessons. the swordfighting scene at the beginning of episode 8 not only reveals that percy and luke already share similar beliefs about the fear-based system the gods have cultivated, but it's clear the conversation stays with percy when he fights ares and later calls out zeus on his waning skills as a father and a king. however, luke's plan fell through the moment percy learned that the winged-shoes were meant to drag him to tartarus. not only that, but the shoes nearly killed grover, a friend percy cared for deeply. if nourishing loyalty and trust was the key to ensuring a partnership with percy, then it was luke's faulty planning, arrogance, and impatience that cost him the greatest ally he could ask for.

Annabeth learning the Great Prophecy on the show is GENIUS. Whenever I reread the books I think about how Annabeth must have felt as she grew closer to Percy: the dread that he is fated to die no matter what she does, yet she can't help falling for him.

But Chiron telling her now, when she's already close with Percy? We get to watch as her whole demeanor shifts and she zeroes in on keeping Percy safe, which of course means keeping him from going on the quest. Her guilt that she has to betray her friend, one of the only people she hasn't lost yet? Knowing now that her fate is probably to lose him anway?

And yet she STILL believes that she can defy the prophecy!! Her fatal flaw!! She's going to spend this entire quest worrying about Percy's life. "If I can just think six steps ahead, I can save you" - I remember seeing that clip and thinking the wording was a little strange. Why does Percy need pre-emptive saving? But now that we have the context, it all makes sense. And we are in for some ANGST 🥹💥🤲❤️‍🔥

Queerness In Ninjago (Spoiler alert, it's very queer)

I honestly don't see the queer side of Ninjago being talked about enough. Probably because half of the fandom are immature homophobic people but that's not gonna stop me writing a whole post about it on Tumblr that probably no one is gonna see. I'm gonna be looking at specific characters and at the canon part of it. I do have my own headcanons and stuff but I'm gonna try to forget about those for the sake of this post.

First, let's start out with a character who is almost 95% canon to be part of the LGBTQ+ community, Sally. She's a side character and doesn't play much of a role in the series after The Benefit of Grief but I feel like she's still worth mentioning. She has the progress pride flag on her guitar and the back of her dad's van which shows that she's definitely a supporter.

You can also see the bisexual flag on her guitar case, which tells us that she's bisexual! They don't do much about with it after this but it's still good to have some representation, even if it's not a big part of the story. This is probably the only instance where a character has had their sexual orientation shown in Ninjago.

The episode where we see her in the most, The Benefit of Grief, can be viewed as an allegory of coming out, which I touch more on here, but in case you're too lazy, I'll just explain how here. The basic premise of the episodes is her running away from home because she wants to move to Ninjago City and get big in the music industry. However after a while she starts to feel guilty about it, but I'd afraid to go back in fear that her parents won't forgive her. With the help of Zane she makes the decision to go back home with her parents. Her parents forgive her and woo yay happy ending.

This episode can be taken viewed as a coming out experience. Think about it. You hide your sexual orientation/gender identity from your family, friends, or others in your life. You feel guilty about it but also afraid to come out out of fear that they won't accept you. It's a pretty good allegory. It most likely wasn't intentional but it will always be in my head because how can you write such a good allegory like that with a canon queer character as the main character and not calm it intentional? That's all that I have to say about Sally though.

Now let's get started with these 2 girlies. They competed in the Terra Technica Dance-Off in season 12, Prime Empire. They were heavily treated like a lesbian couple in the episode. So heavily that the episode got banned in a few places around the world. Tommy Andreasen said that it was up to the fans to decide so though it wasn't really confirmed it's heavily implied. They were only side characters so we don't get to see much of them after this episode but it shlws how Lego will be willing to add some gay in the show.

I've been talking about sexual orientation for some time now it's time we talk about the Non-binary characters in Ninjago. One of the Algae Farmers in Dragons Rising have the Non-binary flag attached to them. The person who voices them (Niah Davis) Is also Non-binary. The character didn't have much of a role but it's still super cool to see. (I'm transmasc and enby so of course I was so happy when I saw it being explicitly showed like this)

The Source Dragon of Life is also non-binary. Which is another character voiced by Niah Davis. The dragon uses they/them pronouns throughout the show and was later confirmed in a tweet. This character actually does play a big role in the series and is the source of Lloyd's power. (Which means Lloyd is non-binary too. /J) They'll also most likely also have a big role in season 3 when that comes out. So is every character Niah Davis voices non-binary? Heck yeah!

Now these next 3 instances of queerness in Ninjago are very minor but they include 2 instances of 2 male characters kissing and a rainbow sidewalk. Now, some can argue that the sidewalk can be unrelated to the LGBTQ+ community but it was changed to be a white sidewalk in some places in the world, so it was very intentionally to be LGBTQ+. Some may also argue that the 2 male characters kissing can just be a man and a masculine woman but Ninjago very rarely adds masculine woman, so yes, it's like 99.9% 2 men kissing in both instances. Which isn't much but is still showing that Lego isn't afraid to add some gay in the show.

Now I wanna talk about Jay. Before I hear anyone talk about his relationship with Nya hear me out for a bit. Jay is heavily implied to also have an attraction to male characters which leads me to believe that he's probably a bisexual.

First, I want to talk about this clip. Out of context, it looks very much like a marriage proposal and Jay is saying yes with such a smile on his face. Now, it's just a fake marriage proposal and he realizes after and is kinda confused but anyways. What kind of straight man says "Yes! :D" like that to marriage proposal? (Side note: The Ying-Yang promise in Ninjago is not marriage. I'm just calling it marriage because it will make more sense. It's most likely engagement but that's too long to type) I mean, it seems like he really meant it. Which lead me to believe that he's probably a bisexual.

Also the whole Sweating to the Goldies short is very gay. He's very touchy towards Zane and dances with him and stuff. Though song on the end does include both of them but in the beginning it's mostly Jay doing the gay action. He's extremely flirty with Zane and seems to genuinely mean it. Now that's not me trying to say he likes Zane, since he obviously loves Nya, but I think if Nya wasn't an option, he wouldn't mind being with one of his ninja comrades.

He's also shown to be attracted to Nadakhan's voice. Calling it "beguiling." (Beguiling - Charming or enchanting, often in a deceptive way.) and also calling him a "Silky-voiced seducer." He's also the only ninja in the show to express how attractive his voice is which lead me to believe that he can be attracted to the voice of a male character. Of course, he's not attracted to Nadakhan himself, but acknowledging that he had an attractive voice is no doubt pretty gay. Which is another reason why I believe he's most likely bisexual.

Also another clip related to Kai, he calls him, "Kai baby." Which, c'mon, you don't just call your homies that. That's definitely a sign that he has no problem flirting with other men. Honestly, after season 7, he's been the most gay ninja of the group, despite being one of the only ones having a girlfriend. (Zane has a girlfriend too but Zane isn't as gay as him) Now if I'm gonna do a little theorizing here, but I think that he's not at peace with his sexual orientation and is now willing to tease and flirt with the other ninja. I know I said I'd keep my headcanons out of this but I'd call it a theory more than a headcanon. (Edit: I, for some reason, can't upload a clip of it so you get a picture of it instead sorry. XD)

Jay is also just 10 times more touchy than the other ninja. A straight male would normally not be comfortable with this amount of touch from their male friend but Jay doesn't mind. He's pretty chill with it and treats it like it's an everyday thing. Which is very very gay. And sure, they're his friends and they've lived together for basically half of their lives but I've lived with my sister for all of my life and she's not even comfortable with me hugging her without permission (or really anyone) so yeah this kind of touch isn't very straight.

And since we're in the topic of Jay, I want to talk about the most villainous and evil character of Ninjago, FugiDove! He's very touchy towards Jay in the series and even sacrificed himself just to save him. He calls Jay is wingman and wants to be with him a lot. Which is very big implications of FugiDove being gay. And the writers of the show aren't stupid they know what they're doing. So all of these little things are definitely implications of him being gay. Which also applies to Jay and Cole.

Speaking of Cole, yes, it's finally time we talk about him. All throughout the show Cole doesn't have a love interest. All of the Ninja had one (Jay with Nya, Zane with Pixal, Kai with Skylor) and yet, he hasn't had one. Some may argue that he liked Nya in season 3 but it's confirmed in this tweet that he was just confused by the attention and never really had a crush on her. Some can also claim that he had a crush on Vania but their interactions don't seem very romantic. More like a friendship kind of interaction.

Now, in Dragons Rising we finally see some sort of actual romance with him. He basically raised a whole family with Geo and has a very strong connection with him. They're very close, and you have to remember that Geo is kinda shy and scared to open up to others, and he's pretty vulnerable to Cole. They're also touchy and don't seem to mind it, which leads me to believe that he might some sort of attraction to Geo, a male character. Also Doc Wyatt seems to support a relationship between the 2. So if it became canon, it wouldn't shock me honestly.

Also the episode where Cole finds his true potential is literally an allegory for coming out. I explain it here but I'll explain it again here for the people who are too lazy. Basically the whole episode is him trying his best to hide his identity of a ninja to his father since his father wanted him to be a dancer. Later in his dad find out and is pretty mad at him but after a whole performance and stuff he's accepting of his son and yay they're a happy family. (Watch the episode here I'm bad at explaining.)

Now, if you think about it, it's very much like coming out. He's hiding his identity out of fear that his father won't accept him as his son. He comes out to his father as a ninja and his father is upset about that. Now flip Ninja with the word gay and bam you get the perfect coming out story coming from Lego. I don't think it was intentional but it could very much be as wel. Again, the writers aren't stupid. They know what they're doing. So yeah, I view this episode as an allegory for coming out.

So, yeah, Ninjago is pretty queer. There's a few more examples I wanted to show but then it would be way too long and it's already 11:15PM. Anyways, if you want to sum up everything I'm saying, Ninjago isn't afraid to add some queer representation in the show, Jay is bisexual, and Cole is gay. Or that I'm an overthinker who loves yapping I dunno. And before anyone gets mad, this is going based of the canon. I'd like to think of it as building a headcanon based on canon.
