It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!

i had a dream last night that the entire world used a currency (?) called angrypennies which as the name implies are obtained by experiencing anger. the stronger and more intense your anger was, the more angrypennies you'd gain. an all-consuming rage would earn you more than a slight irritation, etc. so people were always searching for ways to fuel their anger and purposefully keeping themselves angry all the time because they wanted to earn angrypennies. unclear if angrypennies could be exchanged for goods and services, or if they were just a collectible.

anyway, as if this wasn't heavy-handed enough, at one point british comedian greg davies appeared and explained that angrypennies couldn't be worth feeling angry all the time. this was a real revelation to dream-me and i was finally able to break free of the angrypenny grind and allow myself to experience emotions other than anger.

it goes without saying that i will be using the word angrypenny as if it was part of the common vernacular instead of a term that my dreaming brain conjured up i.e. "he's all about the angrypennies" (derogatory way to refer to a guy who searches for reasons to be angry and possibly lacks introspection)

some of you say "not every story needs a moral" and your example is a story that very much does have an obvious moral

#I think all stories logically have morals even if they're not intentionally placed there by the author #Because that's just how we as viewers interpret everything we see #<- I disagree because not every story is attempting to impart a lesson about behavior or a practical lesson #I think you may be confusing moral with message or meaning and even theme #all stories send a message and/or mean something but not all teach morals #like to give an example of bioshock 2 it is sending the message about the dangers of extermism by using themes of religion and socialism #contrasting against the themes and messages in the first game #but its not nessecarily morals they aren't telling you what's wrong or right though the games do explore those themes of choice as well #another example is something like 80s slasher films #most of the time there aren't any morals to learn from at all despite what people who dont understand the genre and its tropes may say #they aren't trying to condemn sex or drugs as a moral lesson but as an extention of conservative and Cristian bias from social norms of the #that's not really a moral #its a theme and certainly you can glean a message from it but its not really a lesson the story is built around

Hey so a small thing that literally everyone who sees this is capable of is correcting any “used to” statements about native people in this country.

“Native people used to live in this National Park” No. They still do.

“Native people used to tell these stories-” No. They still do.

“Native people used to use this plant as a natural remedy-” No. They still do.

Better yet, familiarize yourself with the tribes local to you. Odds are, they do not yet have federal recognition. You can still read the stories they have to share, you can share their ongoing battle for recognition with others, you can sign petitions and spread the word to others to do so as well. But do something.

It's my first animation project, which is why it took so long. I had to learn to animate to make it. It's only a bit over 2 minutes, but I made it the best I possibly could. Please please please watch it. I am so proud of it.

It's a trailer for my first novel- a late YA scifi/superhero book.

Is it absurd to make a fully animated book "trailer" for a book that's been out for 6 years, with voice acting and commissioned music (by the fantastic @plottwiststudios) ? I mean yes. Of course. I'm not even doing this for real marketing purposes because this is a ridiculous thing to do. I don't even really think it'll sell books but the process of making it made me really really happy.

I love my fictional disaster queers, and I love my book, and when I was a kid I thought I'd grow up to be an animator. I've always loved animation, and I really, really enjoyed making something animated myself. I'm really proud of how it turned out.

So as stated in the subject, mousedetective, the blog I've had for over 14 years, got nuked this morning thanks to that stupid "I submitted you to Tumblr for termination, contact me to view the support ticket" thing that's been happening to a ton of people. I already submitted a support ticket to get it reinstated and I made a post on this new temporary blog that I tagged Tumblr Support in, so I've started the process to get it back that way.

But I really need help. I managed to get the laptop issue I had sorted, and then I had to pay for two bills I hadn't expected which wiped out the money I had raised to put towards the repair, and the next payment of one of those bills (my mom's car insurance) is due in three days, which is $57. My daughter also has three appointments next week in three different cities (all three trips are less than 40 mile round trips, so I need to raise around $240 for the three of them...one is a rheumatology appointment so we can get Lena on a better arthritis med, one is her therapy appointment, and the third is the root canal appointment that had to wait two months because the original dentist died).

So I'm aiming to try and get $300 to cover all of this stuff for now. I have other stuff that needs to get covered, including potentially trying to raise thousands of dollars for my Uncle David's cremation, as my mother was quoted it would cost $8,000 and we currently have no idea if the VA is stepping in to cover costs and inter him at a military cemetery. But for now, I need $300 by the 18th. Thank you all so much.

By the way it's like. Really fucked how society's thoughts on epilepsy is just "get over it." Seizures can cause permanent brain damage. Seizures can kill people. Seizures hurt like hell. Allow me to reiterate that seizures can kill people. And you're just gonna casually put flashing lights, a common trigger for seizures in your advertisement, in your animation meme, in your edit, on your billboards, without even thinking about putting a simple disclaimer? That's unbelievable. Your little anime edit could deadass cost a life and you're not gonna put a warning because it's "inconvenient" or "people like that shouldn't be on the internet" (ableist) (the problem exists outside the internet also). Or you'll give insufficient ones like putting it in the captions or only giving like one second before the flashing lights appear, meaning that the trigger's already in motion before anyone who needs the warning can read it and save themselves from literal physical danger.

We need to start commenting under other people's posts about how to properly warn for flashing lights and eyestrain. We need to be emailing and calling companies about their possibly triggering advertisements that could induce seizures. We need to stop tolerating ableism and start speaking up for the more vulnerable.

Also, stop putting epilepsy warnings. That's like saying "warning: schizophrenia" on a post including unreality or "warning: dyslexia" on a post with a typing quirk. First off, the disability mentioned isn't the only group of people that this could trigger. Second, it doesn't truly get the message across and instead makes it worse for those with the disability-- scrolling through the epilepsy tag on Tumblr should get you to view the content of other epileptic people, but no, you just get a bunch of flashing lights and eyestrain, even though you could instead tag for, oh I dunno, flashing lights and eyestrain.

Anyways this Disability Pride, and for every month that comes after, think about epileptic people and others who are triggered by flashing lights/eyestrain. Happy pride to those who experience seizures too frequently due to the unaccommodating and ableist societies we live in!

First was Ansel's disappearance after his suicide note. Then my roommate turned out to be a fucking sexual predator who had been lying and hiding this whole time (my roommate, who's been one of my best friends since I was 14). Then my aunt died suddenly from a heart attack. Then my great aunt died (thankfully surrounded by her loved ones except for my father, whose aunt is his, because he got a new fucking job and couldn't make it and cried for two hours without letting anyone but my mom know, who snitched on my sister and I because we love him and are worried that he didn't cry). Then the new job I was like, 90% sure I was about to get (within the game industry) vanished due to a change in management. Then my other great aunt died (leaving my great uncle alone and so sad that he's currently hospitalized). Then my roommates and I had a fight so hard that I'm wondering if everything I've ever built and worked for is even worth it. It's gotten so fucking bad that I just. I think I need to fucking move. And finally, once more, my prescription for testosterone didn't get renewed bc doctors are fucking idiots. So now I'm late on my shot and I'm a fucking mess.

I've spent a lot of money on moving around, trying to be there for my family and I'm out of everything. I don't even know if I can fucking pay rent, so. If any of you have read this long I guess, thank you? And if you wouldn't mind sharing? Because I'm at my wit's end.
