Glaze is out!
Tired of having your artwork used for AI training but find watermarks dismaying and ineffective?
Well check this out! Software that makes your Art look messed up to training AIs and unusable in a data set but nearly unchanged to human eyes.
I just learned about this. It's in Beta. Please read all the information before using.
Art thieves already hate it:
Dude, if you're stealing, you deserve to have the data poisoned. Because you could have asked and you didn't.
The link is only in the original post inside an image, not as text, so here it is as plain text: https://glaze.cs.uchicago.edu/ and the paper about how it works: https://arxiv.org/abs/2302.04222
As links (because some of us are on mobile and can't easily copy and paste to our browser), those are:

Recent text-to-image diffusion models such as MidJourney and Stable Diffusion threaten to displace many in the professional artist community
A bit of a TLDR for some questions I saw in the notes:
The team that created Glaze is from the University of Chicago. Their names are each listed in full on the Glaze download website. (This group of students/professors did this for their SPRING BREAK 😱 so go give them some love lol)
It is free to download. No, they won’t ask for or raise money from/for this project.(stated by one of the lead professors of the project).
Glaze is designed to protect artists’ STYLE--which a bunch of ai people have been deliberately fine-tuning their models to mimic (and specifically of current living artists--small or big).
It currently does not protect against composition/trace-like theft (as seen when run through img-to-img) but that would be protected by copyright anyway while STYLE is not.
The University Team has stated that they are dedicated to continuing to improve the tool, like fixing bugs (like overheating older computers by taking up lots of energy when Glazing--it currently runs on CPU so they’re trying to change that to GPU, I believe) and expanding the type of protection given to artists (like working against img-to-img theft).
It currently only works directly on your computer (phones not advised due to current overheating issue, no tablets, or iPads, and no website runthrough since that would be insecure to breaches/scraping/hacks)
It currently works best on painterly artwork, but can still be used on other forms (team is working on improving this)
IT WORKS BY calculating the changes each image needs for the best protection against style theft by AI, and adds tiny changes throughout the piece, so that your style will, for example, confuse the ai into seeing van gogh. But the ai thieves will see a regular image in your style, feeding it into their model labeled as your work (thus starting the “data poisoning”).
Do not post the original unGlazed piece of your artwork after posting your Glazed version (obviously)
The Team worked directly with over 1,000 artists that were being impacted by the ai theft. Because the team listened to those artists, Glaze accounts for regular art thieves too (i.e. Glaze can’t be removed/cropped etc. like signatures or watermarks when reposted. It’s just part of the image, so even if it ends up on another site and scraped, the Glazing is still in effect)
When you run your artwork through Glaze, no information is sent back to the Team. (Aka, no scraping on their part. The app receives information from the Team (like updates) but no information from you is given to them through the app. Basically Team servers ---> You and NOT Team servers <--->You) One-way data street.
Brief misunderstanding happened over an open-source license for the front-end part of the app. (Used open-source coding for front-end, not knowing that code’s use-license states it is only for other open-source uses, not closed-source (the back-end code of the app is private to prevent counter-counter measure developments)). The Team took down the app until they replaced the front-end code with code written from scratch by the team. They are now not in violation of that open-source license since they are no longer using it. (you have 30 days to remedy a license breach once informed; they did so in 2)
The Team is currently in touch with Japanese artists to better expand the tool for use to protect their art styles
From what I understand of it, Glaze is an AI tool designed to be anti-AI (Think Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2: one Terminator robot vs. all the other Terminators 😂)
You can download it from their website and also contact them through email there with any questions, problems, or bugs. The website: https://glaze.cs.uchicago.edu/

A wonderful addition to the list!
Unsplash. Another whopping huge free images site like pixabay: free for commercial and noncommercial use and remixing; just don’t sell the photos unmodified or add them to other photo-sharing sites.
Morguefile. Big old free photo archive from the dawn of the web. “We are a community-based free photo site, and all photos found in the Morguefile archive are free for you to download and re-use in your work, be it commercial or not. The photos have been contributed by a wide range of creatives from around the world, ranging from amateur photo hobbyists to professionals.”
Open Access at the Met. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York: “Whether you’re an artist or a designer, an educator or a student, a professional or a hobbyist, you now have more than 406,000 images of artworks from The Met collection to use, share, and remix—without restriction.”
Smithsonian Open Access. Download, share, and reuse millions of the Smithsonian’s images […] from across the Smithsonian’s 19 museums, nine research centers, libraries, archives, and the National Zoo.
Limited use, if you’re doing a Science and need control panels/rockets/futuristic an image search with qualifier site: nasa.gov You have to double-check a photo’s caption it’s really a NASA photo, but photos which were taken by NASA spacecraft and astronauts are public domain, since they’re funded by taxpayer dollars. (This also goes for images of animals archived at the USFWS Digital Library, i.e the US Fish and Wildlife Service, or rocks and landscapes on USGS websites.
Okay updating and consolidating lots of info here; as well as adding links for ease of access. Adding a brief description for some too; as is the case that not all of them have descriptions above. (Warning that some of these links contain nude refs, I will try to mark where possible which ones have more prominent ones.)
Posing Sites and Apps:
Adorkastock. Stock photos for pose refs. DeviantArt gallery started in 2007.
FreePhotoMuscle.com. (translated page link click here) Japanese stock photo pose site that includes buff people, but in funny poses and costumes.
CroquoisCafe. (NSFW, nude model poses warning) A stock photo pose site. You should be aware this org has been linked as pro-Trump. I leave it to y’all to decide if you want to use the resources or not. I highly encourage not financially supporting them and trying to support the individual models if you can.
Line of Action. Fantastic site that includes posing refs, community discussions from other artists, figure study, anatomy, etc. So much stuff in here.
PoseSpace. Extensive library of poses. Some free resources others are paid. I’ve not fully evaluated both, but you should be able to use this all mostly free and get great use out of it.
SketchDaily. This one is one of the better ones out there. You can time yourself, search by pose, clothing options, body type, perspective, etc. All real models.
JustSketch.me. A pose app for any device. Has apps for most devices and a webapp. Customize and pose models/props/scenes.
Quickposes. Pose site that gives you timed challenges to become more proficient at poses.
POSEMANIACS. Ref site with anatomical poses. All the ref pics are of 3D models with only the bones and muscles. Can be helpful for seeing how muscles behave in certain poses. limited to two body types tho.
MagicPoser. A wonderful app that’s great on mobile. Lets you choose size of models, number of them, style, etc. Significant features are use of snap point with the physics engine, adjustable lighting, multiple perspective, 360 angle, articulated hand posing.
Clip Studio Paint Modeler. Free 3d tool that works with Clip Studio Paint. You can import your own data or other models you find online. Not quite an alternative to Blender, but the integration with CSP is very nice.
Egg a Zyoutatsu Atarichan Drawer. (requires enabling flash player or downloading and using standalone flashplayer) Drawing tool for pose practice. The developer is working on an html5 version.
DesignDoll. One of the best pose tool apps out there. You can customize so many things. They also have an extensive collection of ready made poses here. You can use the free or pay once for life and have the poses integrated into the client as well as the ability to export your obj to other programs like blender or smt.
Stock Photo Sites:
Unsplash. Giant free stock image site.
freeimages.com. Another stock photo site, less features than some others.
StockSnap.io. Stock photos with a creative commons CC0 license, which essentially means you can use the photos however you want and don’t have to attribute to them. (though its nice if you do attribute)
Burst.Shopify. Tons of royalty free high quality images. Similar licensing to StockSnap.
pixabay. I feel like most people know about this one, but it features entirely free CC0 licensed Photos, Videos, and Music. No attribution required, but still nice to support a giant site with all this content.
Viintage. Big collection of public domain vintage photos.
Gratisography. For commercial or personal use. They specialize in odd, quirky, wild stock photos.
pexels. Great free stock photos and videos. Only a few stipulations of what they don’t allow, but their license info can be found here.

wow its been a while since ive seen this post, im so glad more useful info has been added!
The hero woke to the smell of smoke. Swearing, they scrambled out of bed and down the hall to their guest bedroom.
The blankets were smoldering as the villain thrashed in their sleep. The room glowed an angry scarlet from power suppression cuffs struggling to bear the full load of the villain’s unconscious mind. And worst of all were the noises, that high pitched wail over and over again: “Don’t leave me no don’t don’t please no don’t don’t leave-”
“Wake up!” the hero yelled and flung the safety bucket of cold water across the villain’s face.
The villain jolted up with a gasp and a sputter. The power surge collapsed. The cuffs cycled down to dull metal again and the two were left panting in the pale blue moonlight.
“Oh,” said the villain, surveying the soggy ash that had been their bedding. “Happened again, did it?”
The hero slumped against the wall, wiped their face. The adrenaline pulse was long gone and they were left with nothing but the bone deep exhaustion of being woken yet again out of their REM sleep. From the drawn look on the villain’s face, they weren’t feeling much better. And they were starting to shake.
“Okay. Okay.” Break it down into steps, do the steps one at a time. The hero pushed themselves up. “You strip the bed, I’ll find some new blankets - oh shit!” they couldn’t help blurting out as they caught a glimpse of the villain’s wrists under the cuffs. The villain turned a mottled red, flinching from the hero’s gaze. The hero was too tired to figure out how they were supposed to respond to that. “Okay. First aid, then bedding, then - “
Their phone went off like an air raid alarm, shrill and insistent. The hero closed their eyes. “Shit.”
“You swear a lot when you’re tired,” the villain observed with a forced smirk, their jaw clenched to keep their teeth from chattering.
“Stand by,” the hero snapped. “I mean, just… wait here.”
With an angry twist of their hand, the hero yanked the water from the mattress, flinging the ball of now filthy liquid back into the bucket. They slammed the door behind them and stomped down the hall, fumbling the phone from their pajama pants pocket.
“Power surge at your location. Status?” snipped out the voice on the other end without greeting.
“I’m fine. All fine. Everything’s fine.” The hero tucked the phone under their shoulder as they yanked open the bathroom cabinets, trying to remember how to treat a burn. “Another, ah, involuntary nighttime trigger.”
There was a sigh, the sound of keyboard tapping. “That’s the third one this week. And this one nearly overloaded the cuffs.”
“What do you want me to do, not let them sleep?” The hero dug out their medical supplies from under the sink, grabbed a bottle of painkillers too. “[Villain] had a dream, the cuffs did their job, end of story. We are not sending them to SuperMax!” they added as they heard the intake of breath. “We need their cooperation. I have the situation under control!”
The Agency operator sniffed. “That’s not what these power readings say.”
“Good night.” The hero jabbed the red ‘hang up’ button viciously. Not for the first time, they wished there was some digital equivalent of an old-fashioned phone being slammed down into the cradle. They took a breath, grabbed their supplies, and left their phone in the medicine cabinet.
In the guest bedroom the villain was humming tunelessly as they stared up at the ceiling, pretending they hadn’t heard every word. They’d managed to kick the ruined blankets to the floor and get their normal leering mask solidly in place as the hero tossed the last unburnt comforter across them, sat at the edge of the mattress to smear aloe vera across the blistered skin under the cuffs.
“I have to admit, this is definitely not how I was hoping to get you in bed with me,” the villain drawled in a mostly steady voice. They plucked at the sleeve of the hero’s buttoned up shirt. “And that definitely isn’t the nightwear I was hoping for. Only you could make pajamas stuffy.”
“My pajamas are not stuffy,” the hero said evenly, catching the villain’s hands. “They are one hundred percent cotton and extremely breathable.”
The villain for once didn’t have a witty comeback. Their gaze dropped to their hands entwined with the hero’s, all different shades of blue in the moonlight. The hero paused as well, let the villain take their time.
“Are you going to ask me?” they asked with a bitter smile. “About the nightmares?”
The hero took a breath. “Do you want me to?”
“No,” the villain said without hesitation.
“Okay.” The hero pulled loose, tied off the last bit of bandage so they’d lie smoothly under the cuffs. “Budge over then.”
The villain blinked. “What?”
The hero smoothed out the quilt. “We’re out of options. Can’t leave you alone, can’t let you set my house on fire. So. Looks like you get me in bed after all.” And before they could think better of it, the hero swung themselves under the blanket.
The villain was rigid with surprise beside them. And warm, so so warm. God, why had they cheaped out and gone with a full for the guest bedroom instead of a queen? Or a king. Or maybe bunk beds.
“Is this torture?” the villain said in that flat, toneless voice. “Your toes are freezing.”
“You need to cool down,” the hero grumbled. “You’re always burning up.” They rested a hand over the villain’s forehead.
The hero didn’t mean anything by it, anything other than a simple temperature check. But they were too close to each other not to see the shudder that went through the villain. The way they melted into the touch.
Oh.
“It’s over for you,” the villain whispered hoarsely, eyes shut. “When I burn through these cuffs.”
“Mmm.” the hero said. They dared to tug the villain closer - just an invitation, not a demand. The villain immediately cozied up to the hero side. Nuzzling into the hero’s neck. “Do your worst,” they whispered back, wrapping their arm around the villain and rubbing circles into the hot skin. “I’m not going anywhere.”
There were no more nightmares. There were a whole other set of problems. But that was a problem for the day time.
new kind of guy dropped
i mean this in an entirely platonic, slightly powerhungry way, but i love when people call me the friendly "boss." like "you got is boss" or "whatever ya say, boss." it's so fun. like we're in the worlds shittiest cartoon mafia
Touching
Feeling another human’s touch.
touching foreheads
running fingers through hair
hiding face in neck
caressing the other’s hand
feeling their pulse
patting the other’s head
holding hands
shielding the other one with their body
listening to the other’s heartbeat
spooning at night
laying their hand on the other’s neck
pushing a strand of hair behind their ear
nudging the other one
putting an arm around the other’s waist
hugging each other
massaging them
holding the other’s chin up
squishing the other’s cheek
high fiving
bandaging/stitching up an injury
kissing the other’s brow
falling asleep on the other’s shoulder
carrying the other one in their arms
whispering in their ear, lips touching the skin
stroking the other’s arm soothingly
kissing the top of their head
pulling the other one towards them
feeling for each other in the dark
tickling the other one
grabbing onto their arm
doing a pinky swear
caressing the other’s back
tasting their smile
washing the other’s body
kissing their bruises and scars
lifting the other one up
putting their head on the other’s chest
stroking their leg
leaning into the other’s side
patting them on the back
sitting close and knees touching
braiding the other’s hair
giving them a piggy-back ride
sitting on the other’s lap
feeling their temperature
linking arms with each other
touching their elbow to get their attention
dancing with each other
holding onto the other’s shoulders for support
putting a hand over the other’s mouth to shut them up

Commissioned Nito from Darksouls
Finally finished this piece after working on it on and off for about 2 months!
As always sketching it out and getting just how I wanted was a process but I'm super happy with how it turned out
From experience, having anxiety doesn’t only affect your life based on your interactions, but it also takes away opportunities from you.
The years I missed trying to make life changes that would’ve felt like just another step in life for others, but for me felt like crawling out of an abyss. The many times people around me misunderstand my character because I was too overwhelmed to speak up or interact and therefore have long accepted having only myself to keep me company. The countless moments where I struggled with decisions from simple things like what to make for dinner, to decisions of trying to pursue a possible career for my future.
It sucks being constantly engulfed with anxiety because what you should be making a priority of is YOU and not what others may think of you, but anxiety says otherwise.
