forever thinking about how marcille and laios have such a richly weird and funny friendship dynamic that people I see tend to write off as "god she hates his ass" but in reality it's the frustration of one neurodivergent weirdgirl to another neurodivergent weirdboy who has no concept of masking, has never had to mask, and simply doesn't know how to mask making their entire group come across as "the weirdo freaks" despite her best efforts to not be labelled as "weird" probably her entire life

The reason I like Neon Genesis Evangelion so much is because this is the only time Asuka is Soryu. This wretchedly human, incredible character.

Asuka the concept appears in other media, yes. But in the Rebuilds she is Shikinami and stripped of all Soryu-defining traits, another character entirely.

Soryu the surname appears in a few other spin-offs, yes, but then none of the intensity of the original series survives to make her past trauma, her struggles, her best qualities shine like they did in NGE. The context changes her character, if not her name.

The Asuka Langley Soryu, in all her glory and conflict, exists only within the confinement of 19 episodes and a movie. None of the other iterations of Asuka are like her. The first, the original. She’s the beating heart of NGE.

i had the earth-shattering (for me) realization the other day that if padme had agreed to go Fuck It, We're Evil Now when anakin offered the galaxy on mustafar, and they fucked off to kill palpatine, there's no way anakin would've retained the name "darth vader." you'd have a seven foot tall mean little salt and pepper shaker in his shambling iron armor and you'd have to call him lord amidala. lord fucking amidala. i know this is true, i am 100% positive i have correctly interpreted these characters in saying that this would happen, but could you fucking imagine calling darth vader "lord amidala"? christ. that's insanity

This post brought tears of joy to my eyes that I can only respond to with loving fan pedantry. Amidala is her regnal name, so possibly he would have gone with Lord Naberrie. There would be worse name recognition at first, but less implication that the new empire is a dire outgrowth of Naboo's monarchy.

Also, Naberrie would mean Anakin belonged to Padmé's family, not her royal self, for whatever values of "L'état, c'est moi" apply to democratically elected then-teenage queens.
