these are my costume designs for a modern version of Ghosts
Modernising Ghosts
How the set could be modernised:
In the original story of Ghosts, it is set in a garden room in a large country house in the west of Norway during the 1880âs. There was very old furniture like this:
In modern day times, it would be more likely that it would be set in a conservatory on the back of a large house in the country, a house like this.
This is modern country house in West Norway. As you can see it would be brought by a family with lots of money, most likely of a high class just like the Alvingâs. They would have a large conservatory looking out at the garden. The conservatory would be full of expensive furniture like this:
Modern costume that could be used in a modern version of Ghosts:
These are costumes that would have been worn when Ghosts was first written. to modernise it these clothes would have been worn:
This is the type of clothing that I think a modern Mrs. Alving would wear. These are modern clothes that higher class people wear in todays society. These clothes are made by designers across the world meaning they are very expensive and only the rich can afford them.
This is the costume I would put Oswald in. It is very smart costume that shows power and importance over others. Oswald is a character that is very high up in society because of his family line.
This is the costume that Regina the maid would wear. As you can see it is very similar to the costume from the original. That is because as time has past, the uniform of maid has pretty much stayed the same.
This is the type of clothing that I would dress Jakob Engstrand in. Since he is a drunkard and a man of low class, he doesn't have money to buy expensive clothes like the Alving's.
This is the process of making a puppets head. I started of with blowing up a balloon to the shape of a head, before covering it in a layer of paper mĂąchĂ©, when that was dry, i added a layer of âCartonâ which is like a cardboard. It comes from the Carton region of Spain. To use Carton, you soak it in water until it is soaked and flexible. Then rinse out the water and use the glue from the paper mĂąchĂ© to cover the balloon in the Carton. When that layer is dry, you can make features out of newspaper and stick them to the head. After this, the final step is to paint the head in the shade you want, adding shading.
Today we looked at the different set out of theatres and there names.
Grimmâs Tales
The Wolf and the Seven Young Kids
A mother goat leaves her 7 children at home. She warns them of a big bad wolf that will try to get into the house and eat them. She leaves and like she said, the wolf comes and tries to get in. On his third attempt he tricks the kids into letting him in. He eats 6 of them but one hides and is not eaten. When the mother returns she is extremely upset. She sees the wolf asleep under the tree and cuts him open. Her other 6 children come out of him unharmed. The mother then fills the wolf with rocks and sews him back up. When the wolf wakes up he is thirsty so goes to the river to drink but falls in and drowns from the weight of the rocks.
The Elves and the Shoemaker
A poor shoemaker and his wife need money to pay the rent. He gives away the last pair of shoes; he has to a needy lady. He has leather to make one more pair of shoes. He cuts out the pieces of leather, before going to bed, so that he can sew them into a pair of shoes on the morrow. Elves come in the night and make the pair of shoes, which he sells for more than his asking price the next day. He uses that money to pay the rent, buy food and more shoe leather. He feeds a poor traveler.
King Thrushbeard
There is a princess that scorns all her suitors that visits her. She scorns one and names him King Thrushbeard. Her father is very annoyed and says that the next person to come to the place will marry her. A new freshly shaven man comes to the palace. He is a minstrel and works on the lands of King Thrushbeard. He marries the princess and brings her to the land where she works. One day King Thrushbeard is getting married and she is made to go to his wedding to dance. At the dance, he pockets that have stolen food in them explode and she runs from the ballroom crying in embracement. However as she runs out the minstrel stops her. He reveals that he is King Thrushbeard and set this all up to teach her companion.
The little Peasant
A poor peasant and his wife did not even have a cow. They had a woodworker make them a calf of wood and brought it to the pasture. When the cowherd returned without it, they found it had been stolen and took him to court for his carelessness, and the judge made him give them a cow. They had nothing to feed it and so had to kill it. The peasant took the hide to town to sell. He found a raven with broken wings and wrapped it in the hide. Weather grew bad and he took shelter in a mill, where the miller's wife gave him some bread and cheese. Then the parson arrived, and because her husband was away, he and the wife had a feast. Her husband returned, and the wife hid the parson and the food. The peasant pretended that the hide was a soothsayer and made the raven croak. He told the miller where the food was hidden, and after they had eaten, that the Devil was in the parson's hiding place. The parson fled, and the miller gave the peasant 300 thalers.
Being rich now, he was brought before the mayor to ask where he had gotten his money; he said he had sold the hide. They killed their cows but could not get much for them. They sentenced him to be rolled into the river in a barrel filled with holes. A shepherd came along, and the peasant declared that he would not do it, and explained that they were trying to force him to be mayor. The shepherd changed places with him, the peasant took his sheep, and they drowned the shepherd. Seeing him with the sheep later, they asked where he had gotten them, and he said they were in the river. Everyone jumped into the river and drowned, and the peasant was their sole heir and very rich.
Hans in Luck
Hans worked hard for seven years but wishes to return to see his poor mother. His master pays him his wages, which amounts to a lump of gold the size of his head. Hans puts the gold in a handkerchief and starts out on his journey jogging but soon becomes tired. He spots a rider on horseback and seeing the ease at which the horse travels he offers to exchange his lump of gold for the horse. Happy with the exchange, the man gives him the horse and Hans rides off.
The horse bolts and Hans gets bucked off, whereupon he meets a shepherd who convinces Hans to trade his horse for a cow. Telling Hans that a cow can provide milk, cheese and butter and is of more leisurely company. Hans takes up on the offer and continues his journey only to find that the cow is dry and not producing any milk as he had been told.
Disgruntled with the cow, Hans meets a butcher who gives him a pig for the cow. Thanking the butcher for the pig Hans sets off jogging again, hopeful he has now found an ideal travel companion. Alas, Hans meets a countryman who informs him that the pig's owner is the squire and he is in danger of being arrested for taking the squire's pig. Hans takes the countryman's goose in exchange for his pig, happy that it will provide a good roast and a supply of goose fat.
At his next stop in a village Hans meets a scissor-grinder and explains his story to him. The scissor-grinder offers him a grindstone for his goose arguing that a grindstone will provide a source of income. Hans happily exchanges the goose for the grindstone. He continues on his way, but is tired carrying the grindstone and is short of money for food.
Hans stops for a drink on the banks of a river, the grindstone falls into the deep water and is lost. Hans is happy to be rid of the heavy grindstone and being free of all troubles. He walks on to his mother's house and recounts his lucky tale.
 The Blue Light
A soldier has been discharged from the king's service because of his wounds. The soldier leaves the castle and as night falls he requires somewhere to stay. Encountering the cottage of a witch, he asks her for lodging.
She agrees on condition that he spades her garden the next day. This takes so long that he must stay another night, and in return she asks him to chop her wood. Once again, he must stay another night. The following day she requests that he go into a well and retrieve her blue light for her. He is in the process of doing so, but realizes he is being tricked and will be trapped in the well as soon as he gives it to her.
He keeps the light for himself, not knowing what it is, but she leaves him in the well. He decides to smoke one last time and lights his pipe with the blue light. A dwarf comes to grant him whatever he wishes. He first asks to be led out of the well, then for the witch to be taken to jail and hanged.
The soldier is still upset about the king, so he asks that the dwarf bring the princess so he may sleep with her, just to anger the king. When she wakes up, the princess tells her mother of her strange "dream", which the queen believes could have actually happened. She has the princess fill her pocket with peas and put a little hole in it so that if she actually is carried away they will be able to follow the path.
The dwarf, however, notices, and spreads peas all over the city so that the peas lead to everywhere and cannot pin it on the soldier. The next night, she plans on hiding her shoe in the home to which she is taken. The dwarf warns against this to the soldier, but he does not heed it. The next day, the princess's shoe is found in his quarters and he is taken to jail. He sends his friend to get the blue light and as his final request asks for a last smoke of his pipe. The dwarf appears and kills the henchmen; the soldier also demands the king's life, but spares him after he begs for mercy. The soldier marries the princess and takes the throne . . .

The truth.
Gels
Gels are put in gel frames which go in the front of lights. This then causes the light to change to the colour of the gel that has been used. There are thousands of different gels out there so you can create any sort of scene on a set.
You can get lighting gels from most big lighting companies. Below is a list of where you can get gels and how much a sheet/roll costs:
Stage Lighting store:Â http://www.stagelightingstore.com/Stage-Lighting-Store/Theatrical-Gel-RollsÂ
Roll 24âł x 25âł is $92 and up

Roll 7.62m x 1.22m is £66 and up
This video shows how you can use barn doors on a Fresnel to focus the light into a particular area of the stage. By closing the barn door, you stop the light from escaping. So if you were to close the side barn doors you can cut of light going to stage left and stage right. The same goes for the top and bottom side doors, however instead of stopping light from going to stage left and right, they stop light from going up and down stage.
Week beginning 19th January This week we were rigging and focusing lights for the dance show. Because we are going straight into a show we have had no time to learn the names of the light or cables. However Dean and Will have done lighting before and are able to help us. We started by firstly taking down all the lights that were already up and putting them into groups of lights. The groups were: - Franels - Profiles - JB's - Mac's - Studio beams - Parcans Once we had taken all the lights down we then sorted them into what lights we would use. We used Will's lighting plan and had to measure our exactly where each light would go. Overall we had over 20 movers in the rig. This meant that we had to use a lot of DMX cable.

[opens up about my feelings]
[regrets it immediately. spends the next three weeks not speaking about any feelings ever. not even a papercut]
Week beginning 24 November This week i was ill so i was only in for two day. Over these two days i focused on creating the toys Timmy and Tommy play with in Act 1 Scene 1. These toys are based on the old 'Rockem-Sockem robots' from the 80's. The first picture is off a polystyrene modle of a Playstation controller. This will be held by Timmy/Tommy so they can constrol the robots. I am planning to attach some old wires and then connect the old wires to the two robots (shown in the 3rd and 4th pictures) The second picture displays section of wood i am going to attach the robots to when they are dry. I have painted it silver (like the robots) with a mix of water based paint and PVA glue. The PVA glue stops the paint from chipping when applied to the plastic robots. To attach the robots i will use a drill to nail them in place and then use a grinder to grind off the ends of the nails. Pictures 3 and 4 are of the two plastic robots. We brought the robots for 99p and I have painted them silver. I used the mix of water based paint and PVA glue to stop the paint from chipping (the paint is shown.in the last picture) The 5th picture is of me using a heat gun to help dry the wooden stands. By using the heat gun the paint dryed quicker meaning i could add anougher layer and finish painting it quicker.
what im saying is that bisexuals, pansexual, and asexuals should all join together so we can be in the fictitious trifecta. enough people will say weâre not real and weâll all converge together in a massive, fierce mass only spoken of in myth. Â dont come near us or you too will cease to exist
can we include aromantics?
triforce of fabulousness
