Further context: Durham city council (Reform UK) cut funding and support for Pride. The Durham Miner's Association and other trade unions raised enough money for Durham Pride 2026 to go ahead - a direct call back to when Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) raised money for mining communities when Margaret Thatcher seized union funding during the miner strikes of 1984-85.
At the 1985 Labour party meet, the motion to support LGBT rights as a party was passed due to a block vote from mining unions.
Stephen Guy, the chair of the Durham Miners’ Association, said that when it became apparent Durham Pride was under threat, he took it upon himself to “encourage the trade union movement to step up and do the right thing, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the LGBT+ community […] They not only raised funds for us, but came to our communities, uplifted our spirits when they were down, and showed their solidarity.”
"Marjane Satrapi died of sadness a little over a year after the death of Mattias Ripa, her husband and the love of her life," they said in a statement sent to AFP. Ripa, a Swedish producer, actor and screenwriter, died on April 8 last year.
This is terrible news
Happy Pride!
hey can you reblog and tell me what’s the happiest you’ve ever felt while watching a sporting event?
When you make a reference and someone actually gets it
I’ve been trying to share this since I found out. They are moving onto harassing people in Memphis.
Community members face retaliation for trying to spread the word out, a lawsuit alleges.
Everyone was lovely in getting the word out about Chicago and Minnesota. I want to spread that awareness for folk in tennessee.
I just realized that many many people have jobs
Rb with your job, wtf do you people do while offline???
What’s been the hardest advice for you to swallow? Ever?
If you are correct and annoying, nobody will listen.
Like it does not matter how correct you are, or how beautiful your coherence of thought may be. If you're annoying, people will spend their time and energy elsewhere

I am home from seeing Florence and the Machine and it was a magical and cathartic experience. I broke my cardinal rule of not doing general admission floor and I’m glad I did because I was close but still had room to move.
I knew it was going to be an emotional show for me, but I didn’t expect to burst into tears hearing the opening notes to Shake It Off, which was the 3rd song and I was teary the rest of the night.
Tonight solidified that she is my favorite artist. It was a near flawless show and her voice was so good. The “witch choir” added a cool element too.
