Hey, I’m Jam, and I thought it would be fun to make a poll-based tournament foooor people’s pets / animals they interact with! 

Rules/How to submit

 - Submit through the submission box on Tumblr!

- Include a picture of your animal (Or animals you see irl, such as a stray cat or your grandma’s dog), as well as their name (Or whatever you call them!) 

- No internet / famous animals! These have to be animals you know personally!

- Propaganda is highly encouraged; tell us about why your creature is the creature ever and should win, please. We want to know. 

- No hate towards people for their votes! This is meant to be fun and an excuse for us all to see cute/funny pet pics

Hey do you know what rumination is?

Rumination is probably the most common type of OCD compulsion, but I rarely see anyone talking about it. I've talked to multiple people diagnosed with OCD who didn't even recognize it as a compulsion.

Basically, if you have OCD you have terrible intrusive thoughts. They can be about anything, but common themes are fear of being a bad person, fear of hurting someone, fear of contamination. etc.

Rumination is when you get stuck in a spiral. Rumination is when you spend hours catastrophizing, overthinking, analyzing, telling yourself it's going to be okay.

I'll say it again:

Rumination is a compulsion.

Rumination is a compulsion, and that means you have to stop doing it.

I did ERP (exposure response prevention) for my OCD with a therapist! For 9 months! And it did help, but the idea didn't really click until I found this website a couple years later.

And Oh My God. It made things make so much more sense, and I was able to pull myself out of an episode even though I wasn't in therapy or on meds at the time.

Genuinely if you have OCD, or even if you suspect you have OCD, I'm begging you to read some of these articles.

Like this was genuinely life changing for me.

This problem isn't AI. This problem originates with our terrible schooling system. It fails to prepare young people for existing in the real world, probably under the expectation that parents can do that themselves. The economy of this country has rendered parents basically incapable of spending hours and days teaching their kids how to exist, on top of those kids' ludicrous amounts of schoolwork.

Basically, the system has been designed to result in young adults with no ability to do much of anything besides basic manual labor, who rely on technology or other people's labor to cover the gaps in their own understanding.

The problem is indeed "AI," though other factors may be at play as well. Programs like chatGPT are actively designed to breed dependence, and are actively detrimental to the decision making and imagination parts of the brain.

The thing that people really need to understand is that the "product" that chatGPT and other "AI" chatbots create is "more interactions with chatGPT." Everything it does is engineered with that one end in mind. Think about how it's billed, and you'll see that's true, and why it's true. What do "pro" subscriptions give you? More inquiries, faster answers, etc. So its entire thing is "getting you to ask it more things, more often."

Will it say "I don't know?" No. You won't ask it things if it answers that. This is why hallucinations are built in, and cannot ever be eliminated.

These programs are machines meant to generate more inquiries, which means they will generate dependence in order to generate them.

The purpose of a machine is what it does.

I write a newsletter at work and receive so many fucking things written by ChatGPT that it's boggling.

At this point I am literally doing the job of three people because they keep submitting things I have to fully rewrite so it doesn't sound like a robot wrote it. AI writing has a specific way about it that I've gotten really good at spotting.

Most recently for the June newsletter I was given the opening blurb and it was the most generic, word salad nonsense I have ever seen. It was submitted to be by a woman who has been in the industry for 30 years. When I asked her about it, she just said she put it into Chat and it sounded good! I told her it had nothing to do with June and she got really offended and said that she knew what bad writing was.

Apparently not anymore.

I think a commonly overlooked part of this coddling is that it teaches kids and teenagers to be afraid of things they don't need to be afraid of, which is exactly how they end up as "puriteens". I remember as a child being terrified to change the channel on the tv because I had ended up with the impression that seeing even seconds of an R rated movie or tv show would give me nightmares. And then as a tween every time I saw swearing I felt sick to my stomach because I had been taught such a thing is bad and harmful. I think I would have suffered less if I hadn't been raised with everyone around me acting like mature media was so bad. By the time I was a teenager I had figured out this was bunk, but understandably a lot of people don't. By making this whole system worse and stronger you have teens who have been told that seeing explicit or dark media Will Harm Them, and so they act in ways that would be appropriate if it really was the info-hazard it's implied to be.
