coming back to life to talk abt the new 28 years later movie (bone temple). mostly narrative perspective.
the new perspective on spike as someone who's just trying to survive after being lost, and finding himself in the arms of a group of irresponsible adults. which only makes him more lost and hurt. yeah. hits close.
the amount of symbolism too omg... the moon and clouds 😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏 amazing.
also, the cult. those mfs are NOT scary 😭🙏
they are hilarious, and that has purpose. they are not serious evil villains, they are people who have been manipulated by someone who, from the very beginning, put himself on a pedestal. claiming to be their only deity and the actual son of satan. i'm not sure if he ever believed this himself, but i really think he did after seeing the ending. this all has the narrative purpose of creating a dynamic that doesn't really fit in with the concept of pure evil. they are human, and imperfect, and sadism is definitely used to cope with a feeling of loss of control caused primarily by years of experiencing trauma, daily.
it's a really intense movie.
the religious bits are great. but so are the nature ones!!!!!
the nature of the human body and mind, the nature of caring, the nature of life trauma, the nature of emotions and life after societal collapse...
how everything changes and every expectation you had of the world just fades, quickly, but hope remains that there is some structure up until the moment you experience this new reality.
the helping of others when it doesn't necessarily benefit you short term, even long term.
that's what i loved about dr kelson, he cared enough to try and make a change, try to change the course of how things are supposed to go. save people, possibly with a cure for the virus... it's honestly amazing, i think he was the sacrifice needed in order to at least give himself some hope for change...
