This frog might look like CGI, but they’re very much real. Also known as the Badditu burrowing tree frog, this species is endemic to the Ethiopian mountains, and is often found in grassland habitats. This individual was found in Bale, Ethiopia, by photographer Oleksandr Zinenko.

This very pretty pine toad [Incilius occidentalis] comes to us from Oaxaca, Mexico. Pine toads get their name from the arid pine forests in which they usually reside, although these adaptable toads can often be found thriving in other habitats. Images by Eugenio Padilla.

Rain Summoning Spell

This spell is really easy and simple! It doesn’t take much time or setup, so its good for those that need rain in their area or want to help encourage a small storm, but don’t have much time!

Vape, for the smoke. You can also use a cigarette if you smoke. NOTE: Please don’t pick up a cigarette or vape if you don’t already smoke! You can find a substitute! 

Cup

Map - If you don’t have a paper map, pull out your phone/ipad and pull up google maps in the area that you want it to rain in!

Rice

Pull your map up or out, and set your cup on top of the area that you want it to rain in. You can use any type of cup or mug, although I prefer clear glass or a copper mug if I have it available, with no stem. Just make sure the cup is well situated over the area that you want the rain in… if you want it in a bigger area a phone or iPad actually works better because you can zoom out.

Think of your intent, and don’t stop thinking of it.

Now take your vape (or whatever you are using for the smoke) and take a drag, and then exhale into the cup so that the vapor gets trapped inside. I wouldn’t exhale too hard, or you may end up causing some crazy wind and/or just blow it all out of the cup. The idea is to get it trapped inside the cup, at least for a small bit! The vapor smoke represents clouds.

Now remember your intent! Take a handful of that rice, and slowly sprinkle it into the cup through the smoke. You can say an incantation here if you like as well. If you want heavier rain, drop more rice! Its adjustable to what you want to achieve. But thats it!

Predict the Weather in a Cup of Coffee

This is a long standing trick used by farmers and backpackers alike. 

Watch the bubbles when you pour your cup of coffee. Bubbles gathering in the center indicate a high-pressure system, which makes the coffee’s surface convex or higher in the middle. Since bubbles are mostly air, they migrate to the highest point. High-pressure means sunshine and cloudless skies.  Same if the bubbles push to the edges quickly.

If the bubbles form a ring around the sides of the mug, however, the surface is concave and indicates a low-pressure system. Expect rain or overcast with in 12 hours. If bubbles slowly move to the edge of the cup the weather will clear soon enough.

 This chant was made to bring cooler weather after a heat spell! So far it works well with a clear quartz offering.

I need to no longer resist change. The coming chapter in my life if inevitable. I cannot change it, I cannot fight it. Life is about to be different and I need to let go. To release the tether that I have tied to my current life. I need to accept and come to peace with the fact that change is about to occur. I need to make peace with it.

When I was a child, I used to repeat my mom’s phone number out loud as a verbal stim, or if I felt overstimulated. She regretted making me memorize it at such a young age! It was especially funny in public.

A spell sachet for accepting change

So as an autistic witch, I struggle with change quite a bit. A lot of things in my life have been changing lately, and to help with that, I’ve started making little sachets with various things that represent earth’s changing seasons. These are a simple reminder to me to accept change, and embrace the things that are outside of my control.

You will need:

-Sachet

-Fallen leaves

-bay leaf

-ginger (optional)

On your next walk through the woods, collect some newly fallen leaves. As you collect them, think about the process of change, and how each year the trees lose their leaves and start new. Afterwards, use a bay leaf to write your intention. I wrote “I accept positive change into my life” on one side, and “I am not upset by change” on the other. Fill your sachets with the leaves and your bay leaf, and add ginger for extra strength. I also added some rosemary oil mainly for fragrance. When you are finished, hang your sachet above your bed, altar, or workplace.

Unfortunately I do not have pretty pictures, but I hope this helps anyone (especially other autistic witches who struggle with change!)
