I like to believe Matt thinks very highly of Near. He holds every interaction with Near very close to his heart. Matt just thinks he’s cool! Matt will want to talk about the interactions he has had with Near often. He’s aware they aren’t close, but it makes him very happy to refer to Near as his friend.

Near, on the other hand, is very much aware of Matt, to say the least. I’d say he’s less interested in forming bonds, or rather, doesn’t see the point. However, Near definitely doesn’t mind Matts presence. Despite Near not expressing the same amount of fondness or verbal affection towards Matt, he is certainly not against spending time with him, even if it’s something as small as studying next to each other or silently solving rubix cubes together.

They are both aware of their differences in how they see each other, and neither of them is bothered by the others. Near doesn’t quite “get” why Matt is so fond of him, but, as before mentioned, is not bothered by it. Matt does what he can to understand Near and adapts to how he interacts. 

Some examples of interactions between the two! :)

Near will approach Matt in his free time and ask if he wants to “play rubix cubes” :)

Near doesn’t let people touch his toys. Everybody knows not to touch Nears toys. However, on rare occasion, Near will ask Matt to hold onto one of his toys for a second while he goes off to do something. Near knows nobody would touch his toys while he’s gone anyway, it’s just his own little way of showing trust. Matt is Ecstatic over this by the way.

I headcanon that Matt is the only one who gives a shit about decorating at Christmas. Matt will constantly ask Near to help him decorate because “It’ll be Fun”. One year Near adds a Single ornament onto the Christmas tree, and matt just Loses his Shit. He is just So thrilled.

Maybe Matt convinces Near to play Minecraft with him once! Maybe!

Me, pouring my heart out to my friends at 10:30 at night about how Matt and Near have a very specific “relationship” that is mostly one sided (not purposely, but you know) but neither of them are bothered by it and it’s a nice mutual thing they got going on. OH my GOD I could talk about it for hours.

A Matt Head-canon I’m Fond Of.

Matt’s natural hair-color: Greenish Brown

Sometimes he has his hair natural, but more often than not he’s got it dyed this... real bad looking red. Probably does it himself with some cheap drug store dye. Compared to his other colors, people know it doesn’t really look **great** 

You can tell he dyes it himself and doesn’t put in much effort is what I’m trying to say here.

He dyed his hair blue once and absolutely hated it with every single fiber of his being. Funny thing is, the color really suited him and looked real nice. Everybody really liked it and wanted him to keep it, but he assumed they were fucking with him. Mello probably tried his best to convince him to keep the blue, but ultimately failed.

Obscure Matt headcanons

- If you get this motherfucker laughing, he will not stop. He will have his initial laugh attack followed by random bursts of giggles for at least a solid 45 minutes.

- He tried smoking for the first time because he thought the smoke looked cool. Made it a habit when he realized how calming it was. Nic fiend things. 

- Can’t decided if he prefers monster originals or redbull originals better so he just drinks them both constantly. It is a problem. He needs help.

- An introvert, but pretty good at adapting to social situations despite his horrendous social skills.

- I swear I don’t have bad style c’mon guys I wore the vest like three times please it’s not that bad guys please no don’t laugh oh no guys you gotta believe me c’mon.
