Being a woman or a queer person in a straight male majority fandom sucks ass.
No OCs, No fanfiction, AI everywhere, No character analysis, hardly any fan content, and absolutely no whimsy whatsoever.
It's all just power scaling, aura edits, low effort memes and white supremacy.
Hooded Justice
I recently re-watched Watchmen (2019) with my roommate, and she said something really clever that changed my mind on a hang-up I had. While I loved Watchmen (2019), I was originally a bit put off at the retcon of Hooded Justice’s origin story. Originally Rolf Muller, HJ was originally a Nazi sympathizer at the very least, and I felt it was strange to change the Nazi white supremacist character into a Black man. This Extraordinary Being (Ep 6) was perhaps one of the greatest episodes of television of all time, so I didn’t care too much, but I did wonder why they didn’t pick literally any other character.
However, my roommate loved the change, and pointed out to me that HJ is, in the Watchmen universe, the first Superhero. If the first Superhero is a Nazi, then the origins of the Superhero are inherently fascist. If the first Superhero was a Black man dealing with systemic racism, then the origins of the Superhero inherently lie in the experience of the marginalized. In real life, the Superhero genre was created by Jewish immigrants, fleeing antisemitism in Europe. William Reeves more accurately reflects the origin of the Superhero than Rolf Muller.
Furthermore, while I think Alan Moore is a brilliant writer who was majorly screwed over by DC, and I have a lot of respect and sympathy for him, his take about Superhero’s being inherently fascist was totally ahistorical and insulting. My roommate made me realize that William Reeves is the perfect rebuttal to that idea. I’m really glad I re-watched it with her.
I really dont get the fandom hatred for Cate, like both her and Marie are victims of Vought and their parents stupid ass decisions... both were harmed and let down by the adults who were supposed to care for them...
And before anybody tells me about the bad things Cate has done: 1) Cate was groomed by Shetty to do a lot of those things then she felt into Vought and Homelander and we know her sense of self worth is tied deeply with her desired of being loved and to have some sense of belonging (she is defo a HL paralel) and 2) Marie is also a hyper violent murder neutral bitch just the same as Cate.
Like Marie has no qualms actively using her powers to brutalize people just like nearly every other supe in this story is super comfortable with murder.
Eh, seems pretty clear to me... Marie seems to respond when attacked or to protect others. She fucked up and attacked someone trying to escape at the beginning of the series, but she was under the assumption that they were a villian and the hero school was for actually becoming a hero. She fell for the lies about how that world works. It was the wrong thing to do but we can actually follow her thought process on why she did that. She's by no means perfect and seems out for herself but no more than anyone else and her response was appropriate for someone about to take the fall for something she didn't do (the club mishap in the 1st season). She's not really willy nilly exploding people. She fought people actively going on murder rampages, in the finale and to protect herself or her friends in the earlier episodes. She also exploded the dick of a guy who was actively trying to rape her. Cate in comparison betrays her friends constantly. Making high handed decisions and mind fucking her boyfriend until his brain was swiss cheese and he went crazy and killed himself. She was being manipulated yes, but after she realized she couldn't trust who she thought she could she acted like them not wanting her to touch them was a shocking and unacceptable response from them... then she kept manipulating them even more. You can't be someone's friend while afraid that your every thought or action while in their presence might not be your own.
Its the betrayal of it all while trying to brush passed all that was done thats the issue. Getting a "heeeey guys" from someone after being put through hell in a prison and losing a friend is crazy. A lot of viewers empathize. Its pretty obvious why she's less likable.
I have such a big fat crush on these girls I'm literally going crazy, they could do whatever they want to me tbh

My first reactions to the old guard sequel... spoilers obviously.
Welp, what I'm thinking is that Quynh's immortality transferred to Booker and he's gonna wake up distraught about it. It's gonna be some big reveal if there ever is a 3rd movie. Or maybe I'm just hopeful because his death felt cheap and lame. He had the ability to die again and then threw his life away at the first opportunity "protecting" an immortal person, abandoning Andy to go through the rest of the mission alone. It was framed like a sacrifice but was, at it's core, a pointless suicide that made things more difficult for Andy. Being mortal again could have meant growing old, it didn't have to mean dying at the first opportunity in a way that doesn't help or protect anyone. It was a handful of random guards with guns that he and Andy could have taken out together easily...
I got a lot of gripes about this movie. Quynh felt like she was the antagonist's lapdog rather than her own character. The cliffhanger of the 1st movie made her seem like she'd be the big bad they'd be facing in a cool emotionally wrought kind of way. Dealing with her revenge and feelings of abandonment. That would have been better than Discord mysteriously slinking through the narrative; deeply staring at people and not saying much. Nile's ability in general felt dumb. It makes the idea of them just having more time then other people and not knowing when their time is up less impactful. The extra mythos added muddied the waters in general... them dreaming about each other the way they did in the first movie made them seem connected specifically to one another. Other immortals being out there the way they are without them knowing makes no sense. Discord being there to see Quynh get dragged away is a weird coincidence. Were they dreaming of them? Is that why they knew to be there? This could have been so much better than it was. Also, discord being at the crucifixion is just corny as hell. The movie wasn't bad, but it very easily could have been much better.
They should have focused on what made the first film great. Focused on the characters they had instead of making new ones. The backbone of the story was the emotional connections between the characters. You could feel how close they all were. Delving deeper into that and making it a more intimate story about Quynh feeling abandoned and betrayed, then doing horrible things in the name of revenge, would have made for a much stronger sequel. Her kidnapping everyone for the sole purpose of making Andy feel as alone as she did would have got us the same ending and set up for a 3rd movie.
Considering the reveal that Jax's tail is missing, that plus the vegan thing implies that Caine can manipulate the players personalities and physical appearances in ways that none of them thought were possible. I think he may have messed with their memories at some point since they've joined the digital circus.
i think the main issue i have with ddba right now are how boring the side characters are because of how they’re sidelined for the fisk/matt dynamics
in the original show we would have foggy and karen drinking eel while matt was getting the shit beat out of him, karen saving the mobster, nadeem and his family, etc etc
ddba has given us kirsten, cherry, and heather, but not any sort of story behind them except in the presence of fisk or matt. it’s sad. give them a life please i want to like the characters
vampire media where music plays an important role in the stories and characters have never been more back than right now
