If you haven’t already, could you make a post about the best ways to transport an injured baby bunny from one place to another?

I’m imagining a sturdy box/pet carrier lined with towels & a source of warmth like a bean bag. Is that about right, &/or would the mode of transportation be different based on how old the kit is?

So a covered box is just fine. A container with holes is just fine. A shoe box even is just fine. Idgaf just make sure there are air holes and its covered. Make sure its without mold and DRY(i cant believe i had to say this but dont transfer a vulnerable animal in a moldy box).

Inside the box please use clean soft cloth. Just an old T shirt, rag, or towel. Do NOT use straw, dirt, hay, etc. Especially in case of injury. Just an old soft cloth will do. If you find an injured baby bunny do not put the nesting material with it. Ive had to remove it from wounds and its terrible. Just use a soft, clean cloth. You can drape a second cloth over them. They will not suffocate dont worry. It will help keep the heat in and reduce stress

The most important thing is warmth. Baby animals cant maintain their own body temp and need an external heat source. When transporting you can use your car seat warmer if you have it. You can take a sock and fill it with rice and microwave it for a min and wrap the sock in a washcloth or shirt or another sock and put it in with the animal. You can even use a bottle full of warm water and wrap that in a cloth and change it out when the water cools. Or if you have a heat pad, keep it on medium or low and put a towel over it then put the box/container with the animal on top. Hell you can even take rocks and boil them in water and wrap the hot rocks in aluminum foil and wrap all that in a towel. Ive done all of these methods myself.

Heat is so important. Injured babies can rapidly slip into hypothermia especially if they lose blood. Even without injuries being cold is a death sentence. Even if its warm outside you must take these measures to give them the best chance. Warming them back up is extremely difficult if they already started shutting down
