I am well aware that the prevailing theory on his lineage is the Rhaegar Lyanna mix. The point that has never rested well with me is Sir Arthur Dayne’s involvement. I am under the impression that Eddard did fall in love with Dayne’s sister before having to take the responsibility of marrying Catelyn. He would have become Lord of Starfall and the Starks would have had the North, the Riverlands and Starfall. The kingdom secured yadda yadda. Now imagine Arthur finds out Ned is after his legacy and sister. The honourable Sword of the Morning is torn between house and his prince(he loves Rhaegar a lot), so he convinces his friend to steal Lyanna with his help so he can assure the legacy is kept intact.
