date idea #42 - sacrifice that special someone to the gitrog frog
Everybody shut up, there’s a new Sigarda headcanon in town and it is 100% birb approved!
She leads the Flight of Herons and has a birb scythe, so this checks out.
Deck Spotlight: Green Moon - Scary RG Monsters backed by Blood Moon & LD. http://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/391017
Too much beauty in this deck :'D I'd probably cut the Polukranos for Primeval Titans, though.
The Gitrog Monster
Okay, this card is busted. I’m going to try to run down all the ways you can synergize with this card over the course of this post, but I may miss some because the Monster works with everything.
Self-Mill Cards
+Mesmeric Orb: Note that Mesmeric Orb triggers individually for each permanent untapped, which gets around the “one or more land cards” limitation that normally prevents you from drawing multiple cards off of big batches of lands hitting the graveyard.
+Dakmor Salvage: One of the most powerful combo pieces in the deck. If you have the Gitrog Monster and a discard outlet on the field, you can discard the Salvage to the outlet and dredge it back to your hand, leaving you back where you started except you have two more cards in your graveyard, you gain whatever effect the discard outlet gave you, and you’re up a card if you happened to mill a land. Repeat to draw a bunch of cards and mill yourself as much as you want.

Please ignore what the cards on this blog tell you. Do no eat the cards… or your opponents.
I HATE YOU TARR STOP EATING MY CUTE BABY SLIMES AND MY HEN HENS AND MY ROOSTROS!!!!!!
The best part is that it enters with 0 loyalty and does literally nothing, just dies.
So You Want to be a Commander: Nekusar, the Mindrazer
I figured I should go over at least one top tier Commander in the format, and this is one that I would consider building. If you’re familiar with the Commander 2013 release, you should be familiar with the ridiculous price of Mind Seize. And while the cover Legendary wasn’t super exciting, Nekusar, the Mindrazer was. Let’s look at him real quick:
Yeeeeeaaaaaah. He’s pretty good. Nekusar is what I would classify as either a Group Slug or Bear Hug general. That means that you give everyone at the table what they want, but you punish them for it. Nekusar says, “I want everyone to draw cards! But anyone who isn’t me will have to pay for it! WITH THEIR LIFE!” Since Nekusar is a bit more streamlined than most Commanders, let’s look at some cards that will help you kill everyone with our favorite Zombie Wizard.
Teferi’s Puzzle Box: If you’ve never heard of this card, don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.
If your goal is for everyone to draw all the cards, then the puzzle box is for you. As a quick note, with Nekusar in play, this means that if you have 5 cards in hand you will take 7 damage. Five from drawing off of Puzzle Box, 1 for your draw step, and 1 for Nekusar’s ability. Speaking of, that brings us to our next set of cards.
Howling Mine effects: We call a card a “Howling Mine” if it makes each player draw an additional card. Normally this is bad in competitive play, since you’re letting your opponent draw a card as well. But in this case, we can make an exception. You can find a set of cards that synergize well with Nekusar here, and most of them should be in any deck that wants to abuse Nekusar.
Some other Creatures: Now this isn’t super necessary, but there are some creatures who you will want because they combo favorably with Nekusar. Jace’s Archivist, Psychosis Crawler, Barbed Shocker, and Dragon Mage all combo favorably with Nekusar. Since you’re in Grixis colors you can add in some more creatures, but you really want to be spell based.
You want to be unfair? If you want to be hated, play cards like Phyresis or some way to give Nekusar infect. Since Nekusar is dealing damage on people’s draw steps, that damage will be dealt in poison counters. WARNING: no one will like you if you do that.
That’s about all I want to say about Nekusar. He can be a fun general to play with and against if built right. When you’re playing Nekusar you have to be quick on the kill though. Remember, you are giving other players more cards than they would have anyways.
Before we begin, make sure you’ve got the AutocardAnywhere extension! (Chrome - Firefox)
This particular article is, to be completely honest, specifically for incomingstick . I know you said this wasn’t something you wanted to focus on too much, but it’s here if you need it!
Now, on to the one, the only, the one true lich king, Nekusar!:

Wait a second…
Innistrad is definitely the plane of #Looks
The Gitrog Monster (oh yes. It’s going to feel good crushing people with a damn frog. All hail the hypno Gritog Toad)
Alright, The Gritog monster doesn’t look too flashy at first, but if you look closer you’ll see that you’ve already gone 0-13 with this monster and you probably ought to recruit one yourself. First let’s look at that body. 5 for a 6/6 isn’t unheard of, but deathtouch makes it an incredible commander. Deathtouch isn’t something I see on a lot of legendary creatures, and its amazing because it turns it into an incredible blocker. Is there a 30/30 that’s swinging at you every turn? not anymore. Or it’s dead. Either way the problem is taken care of.
Anyways, let’s get some value out of this bugger. First we’ll take advantage of his draw ability. Titania, Mazirek and Zuran orb let you abuse this to great effect. Getting you +1/+1 counters, life, card draw and 5/3 creatures regularly. But there has to be more to life than winning with obvious choices, hasn’t there. More obvious choices? well, if you insist.
Worm Harvest is a great card in this deck. Since the Gritog Monster lets you draw every time you retrace a card, you could theoretically cast it 2 or 3 times in a turn, getting 10 or 15 wurms. With Mazirek you’ll only go further putting a huge number of +1/+1 counters on them (especially because you’ll run evolving wilds and teramorphic expanse to get more draw triggers of the Gritog.)
Psychosis Crawler is a great way to make sure your sacrifices have a little bit more of a lasting effect. draining your opponent two life every turn isn’t going to turn the tide regularly, but it will sneak one or two victories in every once and a while. Not to mention that the extra body on the field will go a long ways towards a victory to begin with.
That’s all for now! Here’s a decklist (the Gritog Monster isn’t on Tappedout yet, so it isn’t going to be listed as the commander, but you can hopefully get the idea. I’ll change it when I’m able.)
One question has arised in our group: With the new Olivia, for example, if I have one in play and I play another, does the first one see the second one enter and trigger or do state-based actions (the Legendary rule in this case) cancel the trigger?
The first Olivia will still trigger, but that trigger doesn’t go on the stack until you’ve put one of the Olivias into your graveyard. If you keep the new Olivia and then discard a card when the first Olivia’s trigger resolves, you’ll put a counter on new Olivia and she’ll have haste.
Aww yeah this title screams gothic horror :) can’t wait!
Can't wait!
The “I’m pretty sure that the majority of you aren’t robots” Giveaway by Snugz
I So I hit 600+ followers recently (and because I totally missed when I hit 500), let’s give you fine folks some cool stuff. Sound good? So because I’m awesome and you’re all awesome for following me, I’m going to be giving out three different prizes. Winners will select prizes on a first come, first serve basis. Duplicates may be allowed depending on the nature of the prize chosen. With that said, here’s is what is up for grabs.
Option A) It’s what’s inside (the sleeves) that counts
Shadows over Innistrad. That fancy new set that has everyone arguing over which tentacle monster is making people go insane. It’s coming out soon. Real soon. I know quite a few of you want to get your paws on some cards. So to help you out, I will give you a full foil playset of the SOI rare or mythic rare of your choice. That’s five cards! “But wait Snugz, a playset is only four cards, not five.” True, but you need one to put in your Commander deck too. So yeah, five shiny new cards from Shadows over Innistrad, because you can’t breed pieces of cardboard.
Option B) Cause every girl (and guy, and nonbinary, and however else people identify along the gender spectrum) is crazy ‘bout a sharp-dressed man
You pick ‘em, I cosplay ‘em, and then put the photo in a card frame and send it to you. Select your favourite planeswalker or legendary creature (and try to stick you humanoids because quadsuits are a pain in the ass), and I’ll cosplay them and send you a card featuring me as that character. The photo can be as safe or not safe for work as you desire (provided I’m comfortable enough with the idea to try and get away with it). Ral Zarek going full Coppertone? Sure! Gideon Jura in a wet t-shirt? Definitely! Garruk Wildspeaker post mud bath? Can be done! Jace Beleran’s left nipple? Easy! Odric, Lunarch Marshal after a particulary bloody battle? Certainly! Surrak Dragonclaw wearing bear-ly anything at all? Sounds awesome! Melek, Izzet Paragon? Wait, why would you want a blank card?
(Couple things. One, these would technically be proxies, so check with your local judge/playgroup before using them. Two, I am willing to attempt genderbends, but please have a second choice just in case. Three, if you ask nicely, I may consider making it a playmat instead)
Option C) I got a Blank Space baby, and I’ll write whatever naughty things you want me to
Smut. Pure, uncensored, hardcore smut. Pick a pairing, and I’ll give you 5000 words of whatever deviant things your heart desires. Light some candles, get in the mood, and let my writing work its magic on you.
RULES!
Winners will be chosen on April 8 or April 18, depending on interest level
The three winners will have 96 hours to respond and negotiate their prizes
You must be following this blog, not my sideblog (but if you follow both, you have excellent taste)
Likes and reblogs each count as a separate entry, for a total of two entries per person. Anyone found to be creating multiple blogs/accounts to increase the number of potential entries will have all their entries voided. If you are reblogging on a separate blog to increase exposure, add a comment to that effect.
Please note that delivery of prizes will likely take between two weeks to two months, depending on the prize chosen.
Good luck, and thank you all so much for making this possible.
Least Favorite Planeswalker! :O
Oh jesus. I don’t think I have one… I like them all!
Well, most people choose Tezzeret or Bolas.
I do not like Kiora.
It’s Sorin for me.
I didn’t like Tamiyo or Gideon much until Origins and now SOI.
Lord Wingrace (didn’t think I’d dig him up did you) or if we’re talking newer walkers, Lilliana
I’ve never heard of him. But I looked him up and now I love him because a panther. And I love cats and feline creatures
Xenagos.
What a jerk.
Tezzeret or Liliana. I’m sure no one can guess why :P
Ob. >:(
For story purposes, don’t care for Kiora or Liliana stories.
For mechanic game purposes, I don’t like how Sarkhan tends to play. I also don’t like Nissa or Jace for design reasons.
Honestly I don’t like Jace
I honestly don’t like Sarkhan
man, fuck elspeth
ELSPETHS DEAD YOU MONSTER SHOW SOME REAPECT
Eh. Never been a fan of Ugin.
YOU COME ON MY POST AND…. - Rants love for Ugin -
Not the biggest Elspeth fan either but I REALLY don’t like Kiora.
Personally, I’m not a huge fan of the Jace character archtype. As far as actually a planeswalker I don’t like, that goes to Ral Zarek.
Not a Gideon fan tbh.
Yeah I hate Gideon too
Mechanically, I’m tired of seeing Jace, because he’s always so damn expensive an boring to play against.
I told my boyfriend that I was tired of seeing Jace and his excuse was that he was a “relatable character” and I just. No. I can relate more to… Literally any other Walker.
I can relate to Jace and I’m madly in love with him and I hope we have a Jace every block.
FUCK Jace. As a character and as every version of a card.
Excuse you Jace is my husband
I’ve always disliked elspeth
Jace is the worst imo. Also, Gideon
