beginner friendly guide for all the new astro-enthusiasts
part three: since we've discussed signs & planets, now we can get a bit more in depth, here we'll talk about the:
. ・ ゜゜ ・ BIRTH CHART・ ゜ ゜ ・ .
First of all, what's a birth chart?
It's basically a photograph of all the planets positions on the day we were born.
How do i calculate it? What do i need to do so?
You can simply digit "Birth Chart Calculation" on Google and then go on a random website and insert the info, but not all websites are accurate, so i highly recommend ASTRO.COM as one of the most used and valuable.
The formula for the calculation is: full date of birth (ex. 8/5/2001), place of birth and exact Birth Time.
OMG, what if i don't know my birth time?
Don't worry, if you don't know your exact birth time, you can calculate by an approximate time you're sure about (ex. If you're born around 9AM, insert 9AM), but if you don't even know that, don't worry, you can still calculate it, but it will not be accurate and specific at all, so you'll have to take every info with an extra grain of salt.
Ok, but how does a birth chart looks like?
it's a circular wheel, with the symbols of signs and planets, here's a casual example:
Don't worry, it can look intimidating, but let's procede step by step
Alright honey, but what are those crazy coloured lines in the middle?
These lines represent ASPECTS; as we all learned, each planet moves right? When moving they interact with each others forming negative or positive bonds, those bonds are called "aspects", and influence the interpretations of the planets, giving more insight and info.
Perfect, but what about that AC, DC & MC, IC?
These are 4 of the most important points of our entire natal chart, AC is the Ascendant opposite to the Descendant (DC), MC stands for Medium Coeli, opposite to the Imum Coeli (IC)
The Ascendant (AC) also called "Rising Sign" or simply "Rising" is part of what we call: the big three, composed by the Sun, Moon and Ascendant (also called "rising sign"). With them, the Ascendant is a huge part of our personality, is how we show ourselves to the world, how we channel our identity to people.
The Descendant (DC) represent our relationships with others, how we unconsciously approach the world outside, it represent contracts and so marriages.
The Medium Coeli (MC) represent our career, our ambitions when it comes to work, our job preferences and how we approach this world.
The Imum Coeli (IC) is where our family environment resides, the house we've grown into and the dynamics inside it. Actually, the Medium Coeli and Imum Coeli axis (the black line that join these 2 points) can represent our mother and father.
Yes, amazing, but what are those little numbers in the centre of the circle?
These are the numbers representing the HOUSES; houses are the field where the planets take action, if we have to put it into simple words: planets are the characters, the signs are their personalities, houses are the field where they put on a show and aspects tell us what kind of relationship 2 or more planets have.
There are 12 houses (as you can notice by the small numbers) and each house correspond to a Zodiac/Astrological Sign.
Let's analyze them briefly:
The First House: is the Ascendant House and its represented by Aries & its ruler: Mars; is the house of self, representing our physical appearance and how we show ourselves to the world, how others perceive us and our relationship with our body.
The Second House: Represented by Taurus and its ruler: Venus; is the house of money, one's resources and finances, represent our approach to money and besides that, our self-esteem and sense of worth, it also represent our spending habits and what we like to buy.
The Third House: Represented by Gemini and its ruler Mercury, it's the house of communication, representing how we talk and communicate with others, it's the house of learning and informations, it's also the house of short trips and daily transportation services (like trains, subways, busses and cars)
The Fourth House: is the Imum Coeli (IC) house, represented by Cancer and its ruler: the Moon. Is the house of our family and home environment, how we perceive it and makes us feel; it also represents real estate.
The Fifth House: Inhabited by Leo and its ruler: the Sun. Is the house of joy and what bring joy to us, the house of fun, of short relationships, of adventures and enjoyment.
The Sixth House: Chaired by Virgo and its ruler: Mercury. It's the house of health, of self-care, of the daily tasks we make, it's how we interact with our co-workers (if we have them) and in the work-environment.
The Seventh House: is the Descendant (DC) house, represented by Libra and its ruler: Venus. This house is about long-term relationships, not only romantic ones but even with colleagues at work. This is the house of contracts and public relations.
The Eight House: is the house of Scorpio and its rulers: Mars and Pluto. Is the house of unconscious, of all that's hidden, of our deepest sides and desires, it's an house we're not necessarily aware of.
The Ninth House: Represented by Sagittarius and its ruler: Jupiter. It's the house of higher knowledge, of college/university, the house of exploration and long trips, it even represent large buildings and foreign lands.
The Tenth House: Correspond to the Medium Coeli (MC), and it's ruled by Capricorn and Saturn, it's the house of work, of ambition, of the higher version of ourselves, it's the house of realization and dreams that come true.
The Eleventh House: it's the house of acquaintances, represented by Aquarius and its rulers: Saturn & Uranus, it's the most idealistic house, indicate our popularity and friends, the way we approach friendships. It even indicate our interests and sometimes hobbies.
The Twelfth House: is the house of unconscious, related to Pisces and its ruler: Neptune. It's the house of dreams and illusions, the house of secrets and enemies, but can also be the house of art and poetry, and everything done "behind the scenes"
Mmh, what are those little numbers next/above planets symbols?
They're called: DEGREES, but we'll talk about them in the next post.
Now that we've known houses, let's complete the discussion; houses are associated to signs right? So, this makes them divided by modality (we've talked about it in the first post of this serie, in case you missed it, click here)
Cardinal Houses are: the First, Fourth, Seventh and Tenth
Fixed Houses are: the Second, Fifth, Eight and Eleventh
Mutable Houses are: the Third, Sixth, Ninth and Twelfth
There's actually a last difference between Day Charts and Night Charts
Day charts: The Sun is placed above the horizon, (above the Ascendant line) that means that if your Sun is either in the 7th/8th/9th/10th/11th/12th house, you have a day chart; so Mars assume a more destructive behavior and Saturn becomes more constructive than problematic, while Venus is weaker on its effects and Jupiter is stronger.
Night Charts: total opposite meaning to Day Charts, if your sun is below the horizon (below the Ascendant line) so either in the 1st/2nd/3rd/4th/5th/6th house, you have a Night Chart; here Mars is more constructive than Saturn, and Venus is stronger than Jupiter.
