There's this odd phenomenon, that Ushijima has noticed, when he and Tendou are laying together, where Tendou will completely inexplicably turn into a comedian.
Sure, Ushijima isn't always great at picking up why people do things, but he is able to understand the contents of a conversation pretty well - and Tendou is just telling jokes. And when he's not telling jokes, he's telling funny stories, or otherwise trying to stimulate conversation and make quips and other funny asides.
Tendou comes and lays down by his side while he's reading a book? Say goodbye to focus, Tendou's got a tight fifteen locked and loaded.
Tendou has a bad day and seems to be in a terrible mood as he crawls into Ushijima's lap for some TLC? Bad mood gone, here's the funniest story from the day.
Tendou is laying on his chest in the morning and Ushijima wants to plan their day? Good fucking luck, Tendou's only listening so he can sarcastically reply to everything.
For Pete's sake, he even starts doing it after sex.
And it's difficult to parse the source of, because as far as Ushijima has been aware, Tendou isn't actually a bad listener. He has a big personality but in most situations Ushijima can hold a conversation with him. Until, of course, they're cuddling, and suddenly Tendou can't take anything seriously.
It's a mystery. A true and proper mystery that Ushijima cannot figure out for the life of him.
Maybe some things about Tendou are not meant to be understood.
Ushijima doesn't laugh often, not really. Only for very rare jokes or quips that seem to strike the right chord. And he doesn't laugh loudly, either. Almost never. Tendou isn't even sure he's ever heard him laugh from his stomach, or laugh uncontrollably.
But his favourite sound in the world is the soft, rumbling laugh that gets caught in Ushijima's chest, that you can really only hear when you press your ear to it.
