people slipping up and saying shit like “biological name” instead of “deadname” is more or less proof these people don’t actually care about real science they just want smart sounding words and i guarantee if we could manipulate chromosomes they’d abandon all pretext of science and start yammering about how people are born with a “masculine/feminine essence” that “cant be changed” like none of these people actually know the chromosomes real fuckin function and they dont care they just know they cant be changed

Okay so I didn’t discover this in detail until after I transitioned and tried to correct all my documents and rid myself of my deadname.

So eventually I get to my birth certificate, which I had never seen. My parents eventually agree to dig it out of their attic and I’m expecting to see my deadname on it,

NOPE.

“Baby [Lastname]” was listed as my name on my birth certificate. When I enquired about it this turned out after birth I was busy having all kinds of life threatening health problems for the first year of my life so naming me was something that was kept on the back burner. Medieval style.

My deadname was never amended because my parents literally never named me, my deadname was just a nickname my eight year-old brother came up with that kind of sticked.

Okay, sure, “but where,” I asked, “did the name ‘Baby’ come from?”

“Oh,” I was told “That’s kind of a placeholder hospitals assign to newborns in this situation.”

So my original name was litterally assigned to me at birth by a doctor.

if I could ask God anything and get the real, genuine answer, I'd ask him why He commanded Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. He knew He was going to stop him. He knew that He'd never truly ask him to do it. He knew that if he went through with it then His promise would be frustrated.

The thing is... the story has led parents to think it's okay to sacrifice their children, metaphorically and sometimes literally, for a false sense of moral superiority. How many LGBT+ children have been sacrificed in the supposed name of Christianity? How many autistic children? How many orphaned children? How many abused children?

Maybe it was the right lesson for Abraham, especially about how it paralleled Christ's atonement. But it's not a story that has translated well into modern times.

It was to challenge him to think critically about commandments from g-d (and translating to religion as an institution, rulings from religious leaders and scripture), and it's a challenge he failed. He was supposed to, theoretically, fight g-d and say "no, by no means am I going to do this. I don't care that you created everything, that is my child and my world, and I'm not going to do it just because you said so."

Instead, Abraham royally screws up, traumatises his son, and in doing so, loses his son, loses g-d's will and favor, and in the Tanakh we never really hear from Abraham again after this point, because he failed.

It's a story about someone blindly following in faith, and losing the most important things to them because they never stopped to think "Wait, did I hear this right? And if I did hear this right, am I so sure that this is something I want to follow?"

Isaac was Abraham's only son at the time, and the child he had fought so hard to have. Him following an order blindly without thinking of the consequences is not supposed to be a good thing (It just kind of benefits the feudal society that eventually embraced Christianity, which is why the understanding was changed in Christian worldviews.)

I love disney films, don’t get me wrong but hate them as a corporation and it’s so fucking funny to me seeing the response to encanto and how disney’s weirdness about luisa has affected them

because isabela is the stereotypical pretty ‘perfect’ character, they expected her to be very popular with little girls. but she wasn’t as popular with them or kids in general even nearly to the extent they thought she would be: the isabela merch isn’t selling much and the demand for luisa merch is extremely high because kids regardless of gender seem to adore her

bc of misogyny and gender stereotypes, they didn’t expect kids to like the strong muscly lady but boy were they wrong. and I’m so glad the kids showed the mouse right up on their bullshit lmfao

My kiddo is 9, she's exactly the demographic they're going for, she's obsessed with Encanto and she adores Isabela. Listens to and/or sings her song at least five times a day (I counted.)

Thing is, the Isabela she adores? Looks like this:

Disney really made a whole song about deconstructing the perfect princess trope, about how restrictive it is to have to be perfect and pretty and decorative all the time, about breaking free and finding joy and becoming your true self, then made a shocked pikachu face when little kids weren't interested in a doll that threw all that away and went back to the quietly-miserable pretty-princess version of the character.

The doll's dress could be made of color changing material in water or they could have included little packets of chalk dyes so that the kids could turn the Isabella doll into her happy self!

We ran into this same problem about a decade ago when tangled came out.

All the rapunzel dolls looked like her at the start of the movie with the super long blonde hair.

Kids didn't like that because they loved her story about becoming free so they didn't buy the dolls.

Or they did and then cut the hair themselves and used markers to make it brown.

Something that the doll makers could have capitalized on by including little scissors with the doll.
