Legends of the Cosmos/Call of the Void 🌃

An mythology based, urban fantasy story inspired mainly by Percy Jackson! The main part I'm working on as of now, alongside @the-bane-of-my-existence, is titled Call of the Void! Anything posted related to it will either have #call of the void, #CoV, #legends of the cosmos or #LoC!

《〘 SYNOPSIS 〙》

Call of the Void is a story heavily inspired by old roleplays about the world of Percy Jackson, though it's moving on from just being that. Pessimistic alter of a former child soldier, Ruby Darkshine, works to fight against the recently resurfaced Agents of Chaos, who were presumed defeated for 5 years, and who aim to eradicate all of humanity. By her side is Ryan Gunther, a quippy demiflame who is also hellbent on taking the Agents down. As the unlikely pair delve deeper into schemes of their enemies, both old and new, they’ll discover secrets both about themselves and their world that threaten to push their bonds―between both them and their friends―to their limits.

A story about trust, friendship, secrets (goodness, so many secrets...), destiny, redemption, second chances, and choosing who you want to be.

Since most of the cast are in their early twenties, CoV also has many explicit and mature scenes/themes, such as dealing with the deep struggles of mental illness, graphic violence/torture, and, well, lesbian sex. (Very opposite ends of the spectrum, I know pfft)

It expands upon the idea of Percy Jackson, following half-supernatural characters into their early adult lives after all they've been through

《〘 SYNOPSIS 〙》

In a world where no one can die permanently, Reaper has chosen to travel alone, for the sake of her own safety and survival. One night, she comes across two by the names of Wolf and Coder, outsiders who were displaced by the deaths others wrought upon them. But the enchanted weapons that killed them left an unnatural mark on Wolf, who bears an unnatural number of scars from his death...with each burning with more than just phantom pain. Against her better judgement, and hoping to help them learn how to survive in an unfamiliar place, Reaper decides to help them find a cure, helping them journey through this world full of surprising allies, ruthless enemies, and mysterious magics.

Meanwhile, Doc, a potion master and outcast, strives to uncover the truth about the Children of Nothing, the cult who had cast him out when his curiosity into their true intentions got the better of him. Believing these intentions to be harmful, and seeking to save an old friend still in their ranks, Doc instills the help of his friend Zikon, a sergeant who shares a common enemy and goal. Together the two travel around the continent, and their journey reveals long lost secrets and rising powers that could shake Dridon to its core.

A Minecraft SMP I am a part of in more ways than one :). It has some (rather devastating) lore, and my character there is named Reaper― yes, the one I have mentioned before. Souls of Black is a sort of origin story for her. Anything posted related to it will have #apocryphalsmp

Loreland is another Minecraft SMP that I was a part of― it is currently long since finished. Yet it is important, as it takes place between Souls of Black and Apocryphal SMP in Reaper's lore :)

Wild West Death 𐚁₊⊹ (NEW!!)

A Western-apocalyptic story who watches Death as the main character, as they try to find the source of monsters called The Shattered, who have taken over most of the continent. More pressing, their sibling Life has been missing for the decades that Death has been in the Physical Realm. And most worrying of all, people have somehow started to become immortal, and evade Death entirely.

Filled with magic based on mirrors and reflections, and revolving around mysteries in both humans and gods alike!

Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”

So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”

Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.

Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.

I was feeling agitated and artblocked yesterday so I decided to give my brain a rest by watching TV and then the next thing I knew these were in front of me

A question I get asked a lot while working at a public library is "how do you deal with homeless people?"

And the answer is, we don't.

The unhoused people who come here seeking refuge 99% of the time understand that they will be kicked out if they misbehave.

The people you have to watch out for are Jessica, who only came because the kid she didn't want had to visit for a homework assignment and she just *needs* to yell at her child for asking to borrow two books or stay an extra five minutes, or Michael, who came in to look at porn on our computers for whatever fucking reason, or Karen who just wanted to come by to throw a fit that the particular book she wanted was checked out and harrass our staff about our collection being too limited.

99% of the time, the people we need to ban are middle to upper-middle class white people while the homeless and mentally ill/disabled people mind their own damn business and are honestly some of the best patrons we have.

I bring this up because today we had a man come in. He stopped at the desk, pulled up a chair and said "I'm newly homeless and was living in my car. I'm disabled. It was impounded. It's raining. I don't have a phone and I don't know where to go tonight."

And we did what we could to help. He was incredibly kind and patient despite his obvious anxiety and stress, more than most able bodied, housed patrons are to us under much less dire conditions. I liked knowing that we were the first place he came.

We have so many people like this who come in everyday. Many are quiet and keep to themselves, but sometimes they talk to us.

They tell us about how they're taking a few courses on a scholarship they applied for from our library's computer at the local community college to get their diploma. Or ask about a manga or dvd or book we might have to help them pass the time.

One woman, who comes in daily with her tattered walker always says hello to me and likes to work on the new jigsaw puzzle with me when we set one out.

So like, treat unhoused people like people. Treat disabled people like people. I don't want my library to feel like the only safe space in the world, but I'm glad it can be one of them.

I'm so sick of hearing about how "the homeless are ruining everything" when they are some of the kindest, most respectful people here. Sometimes they mutter, might not have had a place to shower, and might need a little extra space for their backpacks but that's FINE. It Doesn't Matter Actually. None of that is a problem or any of my business to care about (unless they request help/services), and I also don't think it's any of yours.
