At last, two years later and she got that #1 spot for the gem that is #truthhurts I'm so happy! 2017 was a weird year for me, I was rethinking my life, running from the slightest glimmer of affection and trying to unwire from feelings I caught in a potential situationship. The latter was the toughest because it felt like I was going through withdrawal as I went from going out every weekend and getting on 50 calls and texts a day to my phone only vibrating for alarms and going to work then back home. Around this time I was working out like crazy to keep myself occupied cause you can't be calling things off then calling back 😅 during these sweat outs I'd have YouTube music blasting while the fitness instructor who was also on YouTube would yell at me for slowing down like he could see. I remember taking a break and hearing this weird distorted ice cream truck melody, my eyes eased onto the screen and there she was in all of her glory, Lizzo, sitting stoned face in wedding attire about to preach and sing one of the century's best empowerment anthem to me. The rest was history, I got abs and a toned physique listening to that song and eventually moved on...I guess music really does help us. What would you title this? The words 'Future Legend' come to mind for some reason. This is a work in progress I guess. This was done with a mouse and keyboard and so will be the same for a couple more artworks while I prepare for a replacement tablet 😪 It was inevitable but that wacom had a good run. I noticed even though a different form of application was used the work still has this grim loose impressionist tone. I guess it's really the man behind the work and not the tools. Secretly I love chaos in painting more than anything. It's so untamed and there's no subconscious pressure or structure to make sure everything's perfect. In the end the havoc and unity of the brush stokes can be interpreted in so many ways. First, don't judge me. So I've been working on this since 2017 taking time, being steady and if I've never had a piece before that was deeply reflective to me this is that. A lil time back I had this heavy feeling in my chest with angst, fear and a dash of hurt bubbling within me. I was about to make a "selfish" decision to look out for myself by walking away from doing what was kind and right by society's standards and instead doing what was best and right for me. My eldest brother would tell me sporadically, 'sometimes you gotta hurt people, even if it means talking your truth...' and it's true but only good if it's justified. I felt like a deviant, I felt like two people were inside of me battling for what was about to roll off my tongue that day. In the end I felt great and I wish I choose this way with a couple other things but I have since then and I will in the future. So just like this piece I'm a work in progress too. This is a personal project I was working on, I wanted to post it for Valentine's but time wasn't on my side. The concept is surrounding love and the predator/prey duality it sometimes has. For me I've been in the space of the cat in complete control and whimsically pulling the strings as well as the mice, pure, optimistic and naive. Sometimes in love we're the dictator, the advantaged or the yang to a ying all depending on the scale of loneliness or appreciation we receive, or the trappings/promise of happiness and affection.
