On earth most animals aim to be symmetrical and so have an even amount of limbs. Reading that Rocky had five left me puzzled, obviously he's an alien, but was there precedent in nature for such a phenomenon? What was the point of five rather than 4 or 6? ...Then, I looked at my own hands and felt silly. Still, that connection made me happy.
FUCK it’s even worse, Mark said HE will get out of the Blood Ocean and curl up in Ryan’s arms, I cannot—

Our life is more than someone else's pathology.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: that hotline is forvo.com. It’s a pronunciation dictionary that allows you type in a word and see how it’s pronounced. They have multiple languages as well. Don’t see a word on there that you know how to pronounce? You can totally add it. Visit forvo. Help yourself.
that is much better than a hotline because you don’t have to actually talk to someone
I feel so insane about ai. I've had face-to-face conversations with people who use it for therapy, who use it to calculate the safety of pill interactions, who use it for all their emails and grant applications and legal documents and academic papers and finance sheets and for every single question they have about the world, and if you tell them about the ecological costs they just laugh and say "I guess I've used a lot of water." and I've been in multiple gatherings of 10+ people where I'm THE ONLY PERSON who doesn't use chatgpt. it's turning me into a ranting raving pariah, because how don't you people see??? why don't you understand??????? this bullshit didn't exist five years ago, you absolutely do not need it, and it is destroying everything
It's the Bonclave (bird conclave) today in my backyard, to elect the Bope (bird pope). The cardinals are deep in discussion.

While I'm aware that this is a wildly oversimplified take on the matter, you can get surprisingly far with assessing what human behaviours are instinctive or not by estimating how much it's nature vs nurture. Showing kindness and wanting to help people are inherently human, as small kids will start trying to "help" in their surroundings as soon as they develop the ability to do anything. Having the capability to be cruel is also inherently human, as kids also can and will be absolutely evil if left unsupervised. It's a question of nurture that adults around them encourage them in their attempts to act out of kindness (no matter how unhelpful they may be) and discourage them from cruelty.
Babies babble to test out different vocalisations and mimic the sounds in their surroundings, because it's natural of them to try to learn language. They still need to be spoken to, and exposed to speech, because whatever language they pick up is a matter of nurture. Wanting to eat, sleep, exercise and play are natural urges, that don't need to be taught. Doing household chores like tidying up after yourself and doing regular cleaning are things that must be taught, as nature abhors a vacuum.
