How chronic pain affects the senses
When you need to put captions on the tv, and cant hear what people are saying because the pain is “too loud”
When you need to close your eyes, or look away because it physically hurts to see, or youre too tired to use your eyes right now. Or the pain is “too bright”.
When you cant be touched, brushed against, wear clothes or blankets because the pain makes you too sensitive, and “even air can hurt”
When you cant enjoy eating or the taste of things because you cant ignore the pain and fatigue that comes with chewing/swallowing/after affects of eating/picking up and putting down utensils. So pain literally makes food “hard to taste/hard to eat”
When smelling things immediately make you sick, migraine, make the pain worse because inhaling and exhaling are actually too much and the smell makes you overstimulated and thus makes it so “youre in too much pain to handle that smell”
We need to talk more about how pain affects our senses, these arent anything to be ashamed of. If you suffer from this, im sorry but i want you to know what youre going through isnt fake, it is very very real. And it sucks.
Your valid, your struggle is valid, i believe you and i believe in you.

@ disabled people who need wheelchairs but are not wheelchair bound
your struggles are important,
they are valid, your issues are valid.
you are valid.
just because you dont always need a wheelchair, doesnt mean you have to feel bad when you do need one.
just because you dont always use a wheelchair, doesnt mean youre faking it when you do use one.
when you use a wheelchair, it doesnt mean youre overreacting, it means you need to use a wheelchair that day.
do not feel ashamed for needing a wheelchair, a wheelchair isnt something you should feel shame for, it is a mobility aid, its something you need.
if someone gives you attitude when they see you get out of your wheelchair, you can come right @ them, its not your fault they assumed your limitations, and if they then assume youre faking/overreacting/not really disabled, you have every right to come @ them and educate them.
dont be ashamed to get out of your wheelchair in public.
dont be afraid to get out of your wheelchair in public.
dont be afraid to stay in your wheelchair until you feel you can get out of it and be okay, dont let any pressure youre given make you push yourself harder than you can go.
its okay to get out of your wheelchair and walk.
its okay to stay in your wheelchair.
yes, you are still disabled even if you are not wheelchair bound.
yes, you are still disabled even if people think youre not because you can walk sometimes.
yes, you are still disabled.
and you should never have to feel shame for not being as “disabled enough”
because you are disabled enough, because anyone with any disability is disabled enough.
sorry if this didnt come out well, im v tired.
“Everybody deals with something” isn’t an appropriate response to disability. Having a disability doesn’t preclude us from facing other obstacles in life. We still might grow up poor or in abusive households. We still might face discrimination based on our race or sexuality. We still might have to face any and all of the challenges that abled people face, but with the added limitations of our disabilities. It’s time that this reductive and problematic saying is retired.
Have I not suffered enough
???
I think you need a break
