I already have 3 WIPs (actually 4, one is literally unpublished in my google docs right now) and SOMEHOW MY BRAIN KEEP THINKING MORE.

Basically, me giffing SOKP keep making me think how much the storyline is ripe for "marriage of convenience, 先婚后爱" canon-divergence. Also, it occurred to me as a reader of various historical romance over the years that ... Jiang Xuening and Xie Wei are truly alone together *clutches pearls* for a long period of time in canon? I know the drama basically was like "well, he's her teacher" but like ... dude is young and handsome.

So the plot would go like this (thank you, Avon romance)

Someone catches JXN at XW's place alone at night. Maybe it was during that Gongyi Cheng induced snow psychosis. It is a Scandal (TM) because well, there's not a great reason for a young woman of marriageable age to be alone with a single man of marriageable age at night.

Waiting for Xie Wei to do what, she does not know. Consummate the marriage, she suppose. Not that he showed any carnal interest in her in their previous life. Not even when she all but offered herself on a platter.

i was thinking about yohan's controlling nature at home versus his cavalier attitude at work, and i think the control stems from anxiety. he takes over his father's bedroom because it overlooks the mansion driveway and entrance, so he's perpetually aware of any incomers/intruders.

he knows when ms. ji is annoyed because she jiggles the lock on her way in, and when the physiotherapist is behind schedule because she drives so fast the vibrations rumble up to yohan's bed. that gaon speaks sweetly to the jasmine and boxwood lining the front door when he enters and leaves. all vestiges from vigilance learned during childhood.

so it's utterly novel to him that gaon doesn't instinctively monitor the comings and goings of people at his flat. the first time yohan takes gaon up on his offer to come over any time if yohan has night terrors even if it's 3am, you have the key, yohan makes a perfunctory amount of noise to alert the younger man. but gaon only wakes up when yohan tugs the covers off him after lying in bed for several minutes. and even then, gaon just says 'yohan, oh you're here,' sleepily, pleased, before stumbling out of bed to pee and crawling back in and wrapping his cold feet around yohan's ankles. yohan could hold him without gaon being disturbed, he reflects. so he does.

i am once again thinking about this movie. The parallels hurt so much.

Hyunsu pointing out the vanity of Jaeho’s life and him admitting that it’s tiring.

The fact that he let himself think of an alternative life with Hyunsu after that…the fact that he allowed himself to imagine a world where he didn’t drain his life into this meaningless world of violence, even as his guilt consumed him, he still wanted that happiness of togetherness, that safety, that domestic life with Hyunsu.

He even touches on it in the last scenes. Asking if Hyunsu would come with him, elope with him, to a better world, to a better life.

And it all shatters when Jaeho comes to realize that Hyunsoo knows Jaeho was the one who killed his mother. Jaeho’s ending “You weren’t supposed to find out” despite him knowing there’d come a day where Hyunsu WOULD find out.

He knows it’s the end. For them. For him. For that dream he conjured.

How devastating.
