Shoutout to the mysterious women causing problems in clangen comics
one of my fave sandstorm rewrites/theories is that she's a loner orphan kit brought into thunderclan and she's insecure abt her own heritage and takes it out on fireheart when he arrives. it creates a better character arc for her, learning to deal with her own internalized xenophobia and makes her relationship w fireheart sweeter as two outsiders bonding.
oooohh i like that a lot!! i think it would've improved their romance even more if she was another outsider in the clan!
do not. respond to my doylist criticism with a watsonian explanation.
just because i don't see an explanation in the notes yet
'Doylist' and 'Watsonian' are basically two different lenses to use when analyzing a story. A Watsonian approach comes from within the story, exploring and explaining it in the way a character would in-universe, hence the name referencing John Watson. Doylist (as in Arthur Conan Doyle) is analysis from an outside perspective, treating the story as a story written by someone and focusing on more meta aspects.
If someone asks, "Why did [Character X] say [Y]," a Watsonian explanation would focus on the in-universe factors: the character's backstory, motive, personality, beliefs, and so on, all things that someone within the story could perceive. A Doylist explanation might focus on thematic relevance and highlight authorial intent; why did the author choose to write that?
Both forms of analysis are valuable, and ideally, a story should hold up to both internal and external scrutiny, and those analyzing a story should recognize and use both perspectives. The reason a Watsonian explanation can't be used to counter a Doylist critique (per the original post) is that it fails to recognize the core of the critique. A post about how strange it is that an author chose to write something a certain way cannot be countered by providing the in-universe explanation, because those are the exact choices the Doylist lens is criticizing. In the same sense, you can't counter a Watsonian critique by explaining authorial intent or some such. (Authorial intent is not authorial success.)

I am a good person. I am a powerful person. I don't believe in evil. I think that evil is an idea created by others to avoid dealing with their own nature. I understand my own nature. Good and evil have nothing to do with it. I understand myself. I control myself. I control everything within myself. My domain is my domain. I can lie on my back and affect the lives of those I love without moving a finger. But I would only affect them in good ways. I don't waste time on evil. I'm a good person. Is this thing on? Do you know about Jesus? Do you really know? All you know is what you've been told. Listen with your heart. Sing with your heart. You've just been singing about girls. What do you know about girls? Fuck... Why are you so tense?
A collaborative anthology project open for any xenofiction writers to check out! More detailed information can be found in the form itself :3
Hello and welcome, fellow animal media enjoyers! If you'd like to write a part in our upcoming amateur anthology, please continue below :>
sex is fine but have you ever thought about all the ways you’d rewrite a flawed piece of media that shaped your life and holds a special place in your heart despite its unfulfilled potential
warrior cats is a book series fundamentally dedicated to the moral “constant war and prejudice is ultimately good and better for everyone” and to me it is best to preserve that while changing the coating of the narrative to that of an ironic one, treating all the bullshit clan cats do and their stagnant society a circus of errors that ultimately gestures to the audience “you see? a society built on the idea that war and prejudice is good fucking sucks, war and prejudice is bad” however most people who do rewrites and aus seem convinced they can curtail the idea of warrior cats society being bad by like, deciding it is a moral imperative to draft disabled people into War That Is Good or to bring back a child that was unjustly killed for failing to integrate into the War Is Good society and having them go to Good War or whatever, which is very uninteresting
the thing is you literally cannot get rid of the fact that warrior cats society is basically built on fascism by being focused on militarism and exceptionalism so the very idea of trying to mitigate the fascism in this fascist world with stupid little liberal gestures (without recognising them as such) is meaningless, the only thing that’d genuinely save it is a full reconstruction of the society and at that point in a fan work sense, why are you even connecting it to warrior cats if the entire premise of the series has been flipped. so basically this is why i think people’s swiftpaw lives aus are dumb.

"Nice characters are boring" to YOU. I love characters who no matter what, will always have genuine love for humanity in their heart. Characters who dance and laugh and sing with sincerity. Characters who believe in others, and are willing to extend a helping hand to people when no one gave them the same luxury. Characters who have gone through so much but believe, no matter what, that humanity and life is something beautiful and worth protecting
