truly some people have no genre savviness whatsoever. A girl came back from the dead the other day and fresh out of the grave she laughed and laughed and lay down on the grass nearby to watch the sky, dirt still under her nails. I asked her if she’s sad about anything and she asked me why she should be. I asked her if she’s perhaps worried she’s a shadow of who she used to be and she said that if she is a shadow she is a joyous one, and anyway whoever she was she is her, now, and that’s enough. I inquired about revenge, about unfinished business, about what had filled her with the incessant need to claw her way out from beneath but she just said she’s here to live. I told her about ghosts, about zombies, tried to explain to her how her options lie between horror and tragedy but she just said if those are the stories meant for her then she’ll make another one. I said “isn’t it terribly lonely how in your triumph over death nobody was here to greet you?” and she just looked at me funny and said “what do you mean? The whole world was here, waiting”. The thing that’s always missing from the “women didn’t fight for the right to work they were already working they fought to get paid” is that many women also very much wanted to work.

Women wanted to be lawyers and engineers and chemists. They wanted to use their brains in challenging and interesting ways. They wanted to get the satisfaction from solving problems and inventing new shit and getting attention for it.

I know not everyone is born with intellectual curiosity or drive or determination but some people are and many of those people are women.

listen, okay, i get what you’re saying but the hunger games are REALLY important for the country’s economy. they generate more revenue in just a few weeks than all of the districts do in like, six entire months. AND they’re an integral part of our culture. not just the capitol! the districts rely on the games too. we can’t just ABOLISH them. that’s CRAZY. but of course i support trans rights! they should have the right to put their names in and showcase their courage and bravery as their PREFERRED gender. but it’s funny you brought that up because i’m actually starting a petition to introduce a nonbinary category as well! tributes shouldn’t be required to align with arbitrary sex characteristics in order to compete. i mean, it’s 2316! i know the districts aren’t as advanced as we are here in the capitol, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be encouraging gender diversity. i’ll take the signatures to the city offices once i have enough. honestly, i have high hopes! the local lgbt community is sure to support it. plus, i mean, why would anyone be against it, really? just think! we could have THREE tributes from each district instead of just two. imagine the economical impact of twelve extra tributes every year! wouldn’t that be something! what do you think? will you sign?

Okay but I don't think "that's not a photograph" is enough for this. That's a reduction linocut and I'm just going to assume a whole lot of the people here won't know what that means or google it. It means that the artist has had a linoleum block and has made this image by carving pieces out of it bit by bit, printing layers upon layers at different stages of carving to get the layered colours on the final print. Hypereaslistic paintings and pencil drawings and such are impressive, but I beg you all to look up how linocuts are done to get an idea of how this has been done.

Very explicitly, in the video, the regular police straight up lie to the couple, telling them they will go to jail for harboring a fugitive if they dont hand the doordasher over, and that it doesnt matter if ice has a warrant for her arrest. NEITHER OF THESE THINGS ARE TRUE. You CANNOT be harboring a fugitive if the person you are haboring doesnt have a warrant out for their arrest! The warrant is what makes them a fugitive!

If ice wants access to someone on your property, do NOT hand them over unless you are shown a warrant signed by a judge! Make as much noise as you can to attract bystanders - it was the fact that a crowd gathered and started yelling at them that made ice leave in the video. And DO NOT expect the regular police to help you - they are just another arm of the state and will only do or say whatever they think is necessary to make you comply.

And make sure you film everything so you have evidence of what really happened if ice tries to enter your property illegally.

Rant under the cut

I just had to be sent to the ER yesterday for post rabies exposure bc someone brought their literally rabid dog in and several techs (myself Included) were bit trying to get this dog off of another patient in the waiting room.

He was a big doodle mutt attacking this young rottie puppy. We didn’t even realize until afterwards he was showing signs of rabies, he’d been in the clinic for five minutes.

The owner was going on and on about how vaccines kill and we’re just trying to make her dog sick. Turns out he had fought with a raccoon a couple days prior and we think that might’ve been how he was infected.

We had to call cops and animal control bc when we told her our concerns for rabies she said ‘we’ll just test him it’s not a big deal’ and we explained that the rabies test is a post-mortem and he’d have to be euthanize she lost it.

I was already at the hospital for this part bc I need stitches but I did learn before leaving he was likely rabid. So I have to do the post exposure treatment which hurts like hell and isn’t 100% effective.

Another tech wasn’t as lucky as me, she needs surgery and her hand may never recover. The puppy and the puppy’s owner both got bit, the puppy is at the emergency vet bc he got torn up pretty bad, idk if he’s gonna make it.

And the owner tried to leave with her rabid dog (who’s biting HER btw) and told us she wouldn’t surrender him. The cops haven’t told us if they have the dog or not but I’m gonna swing by animal control and see if I can get some info off the record.

TLDR; VACCINATE YOUR PETS ESPECIALLY FOR RABIES

Rabies is a horrible disease and possibly the worst way to die

Update!

The dog has been taken to animal control (different than the city shelter). No word yet on if he’s been euthanized yet but they said we should have rabies results tomorrrow. Not that it matters at this point but it’s standard.

The ac officer I spoke with didnt have any info on whether the owner has been arrested or charged. But he did confirm she had a warrant related to the incident. He said he’ll probe around and see if there’s any new info. Apparently this is one of the worst dog bite incident he’s ever seen and he’s positive we break the record for number of victims of a single event.

Not comforting at all.

We had a lot of people bit/injured:

the owner of the puppy

the puppy (who I have no update on)

the tech who had to have surgery

a third tech who didn’t get bit but did rip her nail off her index finger trying to pry the rabid dogs mouth open to let go of our coworker’s arm

the receptionist who got bit by the puppy when she managed to get it away from the rabid dog

a fourth tech who got elbowed in the face and her nose broken by the rabid dog’s owner during the scuffle that happened when the dog released the puppy then bit several people then latched onto the second tech

Several other owners in the lobby who had to go to urgent care bc the only way we could get him to release the tech was to spray mace in his face resulting in everyone already listed and like 4 to 7 different owners who were in the small enclosed lobby when we sprayed (genuinely idk if it was actually the citronella dog spray we have for dog fights or if it was someone’s personal mace)

So we have at least a dozen human victims which is so fun. And yes everyone who even sat in the same room as the rabid dog was told to seek medical care as rabies is passed through saliva and mucous membranes and with the way this dog was drooling everywhere and the chaos of it all they are considered exposed. Idk if this means they’ll get the same post exposure treatment as me or anyone who was bitten but even the people who got injured and had their wounds exposed to the dog are being treated just as severely as me.

I’m still at home, ironically I had several days off lined up already by happenstance so I haven’t had to go to work yet. I’m technically due back next Tuesday but my boss said I could stay home longer if I need it, I haven’t decided, my stitches hurt and I just feel like crap but I also don’t wanna use up all my pto and I kinda hate being home so much.

Final update!

The puppy who was attacked passed away on the way to the emergency clinic. The owner blames us bc she believed we should’ve stabilized the puppy before he left, obviously under normal circumstances we would or we would just handle the emergency but given the fact that more than half of the tech team was injured there was no way we could’ve done that. We also only had one dvm on staff that day bc we weren’t doing surgeries and the vet was dealing with the rabid dog and owner.

It’s very unfortunate, but redirected blame is very common in this field and many owners believe there’s always something more the clinic couldve done no matter the situation.

I’m back at work covering the front desk. The receptionist quit, she wasn’t tech trained and has always been squeamish which is fine but everything that happened was too much for her. Totally understand and I wish her well.

All of the techs who were injured have returned except for the one who was maimed and requires more surgery. Idk if she’s planning to return, it was a pretty gnarly attack but I’ve seen techs return to the field for worse so who knows.

The rabid dog’s test came back positive for rabies which surprises no one. He apparently bit more people after leaving our clinic and the owner was able to get all the way home before law enforcement caught up to them. He bit a neighbor teen and the owner’s husband before being captured but animal control is canvassing the town for more potential victims. It’s a small town so chances of any more are slim, we def would’ve heard about it (or someone would’ve shot the dog tbh)

The owners have both been arrested and will be charged with something, idk and idc. Both owners have been admitted to the hospital for exposure treatment. The man will likely improve as he claims he only got bit right before the dog was captured. But the woman has been uncooperative and the rumor is she probably won’t make it. The man is cooperating and may likely get charges dropped, my friends at the shelter say it sounds like he may have been out of town or otherwise not that involved with the dog so there’s a good chance he had nothing to do with this other than marrying a crazy lady. The fact that he willingly went into custody and even asked the officers arresting him to apologize to the victims is a good sign for him but idk.

I don’t expect to have any updates past this but I appreciate y’all letting me vent on here. Im almost done with all my treatments and my stitches should be removed in a few days
