In 1884 the Board of Real Estate Managers opened a national design competition for the future home of the Chamber of Commerce. Plans from several prominent architects were considered, including Burnham and Root of Chicago, George B. Post of New York City, and Samuel Hannaford of Cincinnati, but ultimately the winning design was from Henry Hobson Richardson of Brookline, Massachusetts. The Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce would be the last building Richardson would personally design before his death in 1886.
Sadly, on January 10th, 1911, a small grease fire in the kitchen quickly intensified, and in a little more than an hour destroyed the building, killing six people. The remains of the building were so dense that it took 148 hours to find the first body and 12 days to find the sixth.
Some of the remaining architectural details of the building can be found throughout the city, including four eagles that had adorned the building that now guard the Melan Arch Bridge in Eden Park, and the Chamber of Commerce Memorial in Burnet Woods referred to as Richardson’s Rocks.

Christmas in Cincinnati!
Cincinnati Fact: In 1916 a project to create a subway was introduced to alleviate traffic issues and was set to expand beyond the downtown area. Economic hardships and the rising supply costs due to World War One ended the project.
Normally eating on Christmas Eve results in Waffle House for dinner but my boyfriend and I were lucky and ended up at Bru Burger downtown which had amazing customer service and a fun nacho style burger!
Sightseeing/Taste of the City: The city has beautiful murals all around town and an area known as Over The Rhine also known as OTR which is a must see! The must eat is Grippos which beats Lay’s BBQ chips any day.
