I think the biggest issue in this fandom is the fact that people can’t seem to differentiate between a main character & a titular character.

Team RWBY, team JNPR, Qrow, Oscar/Ozpin, Raven, Sun, Salem, Cinder, Roman & Adam are all main characters, because they have plot points within their characters. Main characters aren’t “main characters” based on how much screentime they’ve had, it’s based on how much relevance they hold to the initial storytelling. Main characters are also those who the creators deem fit for the role.

The only titular characters are team RWBY, because the show itself is named after them. However, this doesn’t mean titular characters have to be main characters.

Everyone in the show has some sort of significance, regardless of their screentime & status. But this fandom really needs to understand the difference between the two.
