Marvel's Wolverine Extended Trailer

Happy Wolverine Wednesday, Everyone!

Like most of you, I watched the extended trailer for Marvel's Wolverine yesterday afternoon, and all I can say is... September cannot get here fast enough.

This trailer was an absolute adrenaline rush from start to finish. The action feels fast, brutal, and fluid. The combat is savage in all the right ways, and the game seems to capture everything that makes Wolverine such an iconic character. It's gritty. It's bloody. It's relentless. Every minute of the trailer felt like it understood exactly who Logan is.

As the resident RoLo fangirl, I was naturally hoping we'd catch a glimpse of whether Ororo might appear somewhere in the game. No such luck... at least not yet. And honestly, that's okay. They're not going to reveal every surprise in an extended trailer. There's still plenty of time for Insomniac to keep a few cards hidden up their sleeve.

Jean did make an appearance, but thankfully it doesn't look like this game is going to reduce Logan to endlessly pining after her. At least based on what we've seen so far, this feels like Wolverine's story.

And what a story it appears to be.

I also loved seeing some of the other characters confirmed to appear in the game. Mystique, Omega Red, and of course Sabretooth all showed up, which immediately made the world feel bigger and more connected to the X-Men universe. Sabretooth in particular was downright terrifying, and if the trailer is any indication, their rivalry is going to be every bit as brutal and sadistic as Wolverine fans have been hoping for.

So yes, I absolutely loved what I saw. Every frame feels like it was created by people who genuinely understand and respect the character. This doesn't look like a generic superhero game wearing Wolverine's claws. It looks like a Wolverine game built by Wolverine fans for Wolverine fans.

And yes, before anyone asks, I'll be heading to GameStop this weekend to place my pre-order.

September 15 can't get here fast enough. And as always, I choose RoLo.

Welcome back to another edition of The Claws & Thunder Sales Watch, where we once again put on our reading glasses and pretend we totally understand market analytics while emotionally spiraling over comic book rankings.

As always, we’re using the same character-first methodology for this feature:

Only books that: • have Wolverine or Storm in the title, or • clearly feature Logan or Ororo as lead characters

And once again, we’re using the public ICv2 / ComicHub Top 50 monthly rankings as our baseline. These rankings reflect point-of-sale data from participating comic shops, giving us a useful snapshot of what readers are actually buying at retail.

And now for the part that hurts my little weather goddess-loving heart…

Storm: Earth's Mightiest Mutant #3 was not in the public Top 50 this month.

Which means, once again, fellow RoLo’ers, we really need to double down on supporting Ororo’s solo projects.

Now to be fair, this isn’t just a Storm problem. The comic industry as a whole is in a very strange place right now. As I mentioned in the March Sales Watch, DC is currently dominating large portions of the market, while Marvel still seems to be struggling to fully regain its footing.

Of course, I’m thrilled as a Logan fan that his books continue proving why Wolverine remains one of Marvel’s most dependable and popular characters.

And as for Ororo? I will continue saying this with my full chest:

Storm is one of the greatest characters Marvel has ever created.

Period.

She deserves our support. She deserves investment. And she absolutely deserves sustained solo success.

And you all know I will forever believe Marvel is overlooking the obvious answer for generating huge headlines and massive sales:

A true Wolverine & Storm series.

Come on, Marvel.

Be brave. Be bold. And finally give us the hot, steamy, action-packed mutant power couple we deserve.

Until then, this RoLo gremlin will continue monitoring sales charts and spreading the gospel of RoLo.
