$15 COMMISSIONS - my cat needs surgery
So heres the story. My cat, Halloween, ate a 10 inch piece of ribbon Friday night. We took her immediately to the emergency vet and they tried to get her to throw it up, but she wouldnt. The doctor said to bring her home and if she isnt eating, if shes lethargic, or vomiting, then bring her back in immediately because that could mean that her intestines are bunching up because the ribbon got caught in the track. All yesterday, Saturday, she was eating, jumping, playing around. I kept a close eye on her, thinking everything was so far okay and her body will just pass it. Last night, however, she wouldnt eat. She laid between my legs all night, not moving and by morning, normally she would be meowing up a storm and demanding food. This morning she didnt. I know my cat, that isnt normal. So I called the doctor and they said to bring her in for an xray. I just got back from the vet. It turns out, the string got stuck and her intestines are bunching up. Normally they should be all squiggly on the xray, but instead on the left side, they are lined in a perfect row of three. This means that she has to go into surgery. If she doesnt, itll just get worse. I asked if she is in pain and the doctor said yes. The surgery is nearly $4000. $4000 dollars that I dont have. So the doctor has her now, shes going into surgery this afternoon.
I’m not the type of person to ask for money. So I’m not. But I’m opening up $15 commissions that will each take me about 1-2 hours.

The Moving Adventure!
The day is nearly upon us! The cats have proven better at packing than we have; at least they always try to pack themselves all nice and tidy.
It’s not the best situation we’re moving into, but we’re doing our best to make the best of it. It’s the cats that will have the hardest time, as expected. Smaller space, car ride, strange smells, different and smaller windows; it’s not a Dream-Kitty Condo.
We could really use some help right now funding-wise. We’ve gotten them all flea treatments so they can move bug-free, but I’m a little concerned about stretching out food and litter. I’d also like to get them a new cat tree so they can get boosted up to the high basement windows and still enjoy the great outdoors from indoors.

Dungeon mastering
I just realized that DMing is basically being the director of a movie in which you are also the writer, set designer and play a LOT of the characters in the movie.
However, a handful of your actors don’t have scripts, don’t know the plot to the movie and everything they do on screen is completely spur of the moment improv and you, as the director, just have to roll with it while trying to make sure the movie still makes some level of sense.
I just now realized why I feel so stressed out right before and after my games.

Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t trade this for anything. The whole reason I started DMing is because the challenge of it all interested me on top of the group story telling aspect. I’ve created many worlds, stories and characters through my life but I’ve never experienced something like this and I absolutely love it. It stresses the fuck out of me, but I love it.
Me freakin’ too. DMing stresses me out but I love it.
It’s important to remember that stress isn’t always bad. Stress is a motivator! Good stress gets us to challenge ourselves and go outside our comfort zones. Not many great things are accomplished without it.
There’s a special kind of tired you feel after a long session, but it’s totally worth it. It’s a tired glow where you feel like your entire brain is sore, but you just did something absolutely beautiful.
Totally. Especially when you know your players had fun. It’s a satisfying feeling.

Random Headcanon: That Federation vessels in Star Trek seem to experience bizarre malfunctions with such overwhelming frequency isn’t just an artefact of the television serial format. Rather, it’s because the Federation as a culture are a bunch of deranged hyper-neophiles, tooling around in ships packed full of beyond-cutting-edge tech they don’t really understand. Endlessly frustrating if you have to fight them, because they can pull an effectively unlimited number of bullshit space-magic countermeasures out of their arses - but they’re as likely as not to give themselves a lethal five-dimensional wedgie in the process. All those rampant holograms and warp core malfunctions and accidentally-traveling-back-in-time incidents? That doesn’t actually happen to anyone else; it’s literally just Federation vessels that go off the rails like that. And they do so on a fairly regular basis.
So to everyone else in the galaxy, all humans are basically Doc Brown.
Aliens who have seen the Back to the Future movies literally don’t realise that Doc Brown is meant to be funny. They’re just like “yes, that is exactly what all human scientists are like in my experience”.

vulcan science academy: this is a species where if you give them two warp cores, they will ask for a third one, immediately plug all three into each other, punch a hole into an alternate universe where humans subscribe to an even more destructive ideological system, fight everyone in it because they’re offended by that, steal their warp cores, plug those together, punch their way back here, then try to turn a nearby sun into a torus because that was what their initial scientific experiment was for and they didn’t want to waste a trip.
