History: Clement was born in 1903, so prohibition took hold during his late teens and early 20s. He lived in Texas and witnessed the rise of mob activity related to bootlegging and narcotics. Clement became fiercely opposed to prohibition after everything he saw. He was studying to become a doctor at the time, and began offering free medical services to addicts and those wounded in mob violence. His help even extended to mob bosses, as he firmly believes that anyone is capable of redemption if they are shown compassion.

During this time, he was approached by a Salubri who had been involved in the temperance movement but now regretted its results. She appreciated his work and believed that he could be an asset to the Salubri healers’ cause. Clement agreed to receive the embrace and to tackle the underworld’s conflicts with the same nonjudgmental approach that he took among the kine.

These days, he lives in LA and works happily alongside Dr. Brianna Kelley.

Personality: Clement is full of energy, passion, and romanticism. He’s all about seeing the beauty in the darker sides of life, which is what draws him to goth aesthetics as well as morally dubious people.

For all his forgiving nature, Clement has a strong temper. When he feels protective of someone, he’s liable to be pacing around and muttering about revenge. He feels a powerful need to do something whenever he sees someone in pain, even if it’s none of his business. He’s very “hold me back bro!!”

Also he has a phobia of blood despite being a doctor AND a vampire. He just powers through it because he likes helping people so much!! Although sometimes he faints...He really played himself by choosing this life path.

That's interesting. I am glad that you managed to keep your compassion and that it is so strong for you.

I have a small question if you do not mind. Where can one learn this power? Recently I have returned to my baseline of apathy and I am hoping to break out of it, hopefully not merely by writing posts.

It's something that's built up over time, like a muscle. Don't worry if you're out of practice right now - it'll come back with effort. I had a sire who taught me pretty darn well, and that's a big part of it. It'd be hard to summarize everything she told me over some ten years when we travelled together. But I'd recommend finding a mentor like that.

Other than that, my best piece of advice is have fun with it. If you make it some big, altruistic thing, it'll feel like a chore. So just care about people for the "selfish" reason that caring is exciting. It's literally extra motivation - other people's motivations added onto your own. Makes a person more invested in the course of unlife.

Made myself sad thinking about Kindred who are not doing well on their paths, dealing with issues related to them. It is so isolating. No one wants to talk to you, everyone seeing you as repulsive monster or as a heretic throwing away their chance for salvation.

If you can still read this, know that you are not alone, and you can always change and get better. Paths are a thing one can cling to, and a safety to return to, and rebuilding your belief system takes time and effort. It does get lonely. Please reach out to others. Safety nets are important.

OC Deep Dive: Clement Gray

what common/uncommon fear do they have?

Fear of blood! Yes, very ironic. Feeding from live prey is quite hard for him, because it reminds him that what he's drinking is blood. So he usually uses bags. He can power through it though - being a doctor taught him how to stay calm despite the fear when seeing other people's blood. It's also a bit easier if he's feeding from someone he loves.

On the other hand...seeing his own blood? Nah, my dude WILL faint, can't power through that.

do they have any pet peeves?

It's fairly difficult to annoy him, but he dislikes people who can't be serious. He's someone who likes to talk about deeper issues, so someone who tries to turn everything into a joke will get on his nerves.

what are 3 items you can find in their bedroom?

Jewelry strewn everywhere while trying to pick an outfit, a skull collection, and band posters.

what do they notice first in a person?

The way they're feeling. Clement assesses someone's mood at a glance, especially if he has his third eye out and/or is using auspex. But even without his powers, he will notice any signs of joy or distress in a person's facial expression. He will usually look someone right in the eye with an unsettling intensity.

on a scale of 1 to 10, how high is their pain tolerance?

Emotional pain: 10/10 - he will acknowledge and express it and that makes emotional difficulties a lot easier for him to handle. Physical pain: like a measly 5/10. He wants to push through anything to protect those around him, but my bro will unfortunately just break/pass out because his body was not built for this. And he'll be guilty about it afterwards :(

do they go into fight or flight mode when under pressure? (or freeze and fawn)

Fawn. He will do anything to placate the people around him and try to peacemake.

what animal represents them best?

A horse! Will carry you on his own back to safety.

how would a stranger likely describe them?

"Weirdly comforting goth cowboy. I felt like he could see into my soul but at least he wasn't judgy about it."
