Everyone's Friend
The older i get the more i understand why some people become obsessed with privacy, not because they’re hiding something, but because being constantly perceived starts to feel spiritually exhausting.
Did you know that soda machines at restaurants and movie theaters spy on you? That most common new cars now record your sexual preferences and send it to the manufacturer (and also data about anyone who also gets in your car, walks by your car, and maybe happens to be within visual range of your car)? That grocery stores are trying to force customers to download an app to scan barcodes on shelves instead of putting up prices, so the app can scan the phone, decide how much that customer should be squeezed for, and adjust the price? That more and more innocent people are being sent to jail for crimes committed hundreds of miles away because an AI facial recognition algorithm spit their faces out and the cops didn't bother to do the most basic of checks?
I am not uptight about privacy because I'm hiding something. I'm uptight about it because the people who dismiss my right to privacy are dangerous to you and me and our families, personally, all the time.
And often, they are assholes, too.
Come to think of it, it really is insane that my entire country is burning alive and literally no one in the rest of the world cares. Thousands of Indians are dying every day from the heat, it's 45+ degrees in multiple areas, the government couldn't give two fucks, we're getting severe warnings and red alerts, and not a soul outside of South Asia is speaking about it because why would you ever care about brown people
please keep talking about how Becky from Maryland doesn't like the rising gas prices. It's clearly the more pressing issue.
Google says it’s no different than checking IDs at the airport.
This is just another form of censorship, control of what we can/can't see and engage with, and another means of getting our private information.
Alternative forks of AOSP (Android Open-Source Project) which are not maintained by Google and will not be affected by this:
LineageOS (I use this one)
Graphene OS
Functionally they are virtually identical to stock Android. Android began as an open-source project, and these versions are built off of that.
Fuck Google.
for those like me who cannot install alternative android forks on their phone because the phone in question is thoroughly unrootable, I would recommend downloading anyapk on your phone while you still can. In their own words:
anyapk is a lightweight Android application installer that bypasses Google's developer verification requirements by using local ADB (Android Debug Bridge) connections. Smoothly install any APK file on your device without restrictions, gatekeepers, or corporate approval.
If you're reading this after Google's lockdown date and are unable to install anyapk the regular way, there is a method outlined on the github linked above which tells you how to install anyapk on your phone by plugging it into a computer with ADB installed on it. Once you have anyapk on your phone, you will not have to do that ever again (unless you delete anyapk off your phone)

a tweet by @/Pirat_Nation:
From September 2026, all apps, including those outside the Play Store, must come from verified developers.
No more anonymous sideloads. No quick comebacks for malware gangs.
First: Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand.
end description]
[Description for the second image: a post from jrepin that reads:
"Sideloading" is the rentseeker word for "being able to run software of your choosing on a computing device you purchased". There is no reasonable case for an operating system developer having a say over what programs you run on your hardware.

It looks like he's trolling, but I texted him because he called first and was so piss drunk he had no idea what I was saying. Godspeed dude I hope you find Jordan
I must point out, I am an American living in Australia
I gave him another call and said listen to me. Do I really sound like Jordan. And he says yes. Yes you are absolutely Jordan. And I'm like okay. I am still not Jordan. Would Jordan pull a prank like this? I do not know Jordan. I'm sorry man. You should call max
Okay this time his dad was on the phone and was like Jordan man come on and I'm like no. Seriously. I am not Jordan. I cannot reiterate enough how not Jordan I am. And I say again, I'm American. You can hear that I am American. Is Jordan American? To my surprise, yes, Jordan is American. I'm like oh. Okay maybe I do sound like Jordan. I'm still not Jordan. Would Jordan pull a prank like this? And he says yeah absolutely. And I'm like. Oh. Okay. Well. Jordan kinda sticks to the bit huh. I'm still not Jordan. And he says are you a girl or a guy? Cuz Jordan is a girl. And I say sure, I'm a guy. And he says ah, shit. Sorry we were looking for someone else. Have a good one.
I was starting to think I might actually be Jordan for a minute there
the more educated you get on fat issues the more you realize that almost everything that supposedly justifies fatphobia is actually complete bullshit. most of the health conditions that are treated as almost divine punishment for being fat (like heart issues and diabetes) are being revealed to actually *cause weight gain* instead of being caused *by* it. this goes for social 'consequences' of being fat, too. is that "neckbeard" redditor actually fat because he spends all his time online, or is it that he spends all of his time online because he's not treated like a person if you can see that he's fat, so the internet is his best option? everything is less accessible to fat people. seats on busses, at restaurants, and even at things like amusement parks, are frequently too small to comfortably sit in for a fat person. people treat you worse if you're fat, or even try to avoid you entirely. you get judged for doing leisure activities, or even for exercising at a public gym, (which proves the claims of trying to motivate you to get fit are bullshit btw) getting filmed and laughed at, posted online for your body to be a punchline. if you want to be progressive or body positive you *need* to be examining your beliefs. oppressed people are routinely forced into positions that, from the outside, may justify the narrative about these people. black folk are pushed into poverty, so that crime is often their only means of survival, enforcing the idea that black folk are criminals. queer folk are made unsafe in public so that we use codes to identify each other, enforcing the idea that queer folk are trying to secretly seduce people to be gay. and yes, fat folk are forced indoors and online so that they can enforce the narrative that we are lazy shut-ins.
#if you are skinny you need to take an interest in this#get involved with fat liberation#start fighting people on fatphobia#get mad at them when they are casually fatphobic around you because youre thin#make them afraid#defend your fat friends
I just saw an acquaintance use "👖🛝" in place of the word genocide and. like. at what point are we going to decide that this kind of self-censorship is too degrading to abide anymore.
"grape" "sui-slide" "the panini" I feel like I'm surrounded by Rugrats who overheard the grown ups talking about the news.
This is mean, but when I’m in a safe context to do so, I love pretending I don’t understand what they mean and forcing them to explain in plain language.
It's not mean. You are so normal. If someone uses these terms when speaking to me directly I'm going to end up on the news.
In retrospect, one thing I kinda like in ATLA is how Zuko never tells the gaang how he got his scar.
It would have been cool to see their reactions to Zuko's story and see how their perspective on Zuko changed. And I have no doubt that he tells them about it at some point. But this way, it doesn't come off as emotional blackmail, with him trying to paint his actions as 'Yes, I hunted you across the world, but I actually had a really good reason."
If he did, he might have had a better chance of joining the Gaang, but he doesn't. In traditional Zuko fashion, he takes the most challenging route possible.
Zuko takes full accountability for his actions, even though they came from a place where he felt he had no choice. Because at the end of the day, he realized that even though his father put him on his avatar's path, he was the one who zealously attacked them at every opportunity. He isn't letting himself off the hook for anything.
"ingredients you can pronounce" learn phonics. coward.
In the early twenty-first century, there is a common marketing trend to sell processed food with a minimal number of ingredients, forgoing preservatives. Processed food is required, by law, to list out all ingredients. It is common for many preservatives and nutritional additives to be included in food, so ingredient lists can be quite long and can include the specific organic chemistry name.
For example, Sodium benzoate is an extremely common ingredient in acidic foods like salad dressing and soda because, in such an environment, it inhibits bacteria and fungal growth. Sodium benzoate is a naturally occurring substance, found in cranberries, dairy, and seafood. It can be made cheaply and drastically increases the safety and longevity of food because of its properties. And its safety has been studied extensively since the late nineteenth century, where it was one of the preservatives studied by the first commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration. However, because there is no common, household name for the substance (other than benzoate of soda, which is no longer a popular name), it is seen as somehow unnatural and scary as a "chemical."
Thus, some companies, as part of a marketing push, deliberately omit ingredients like "sodium benzoate," implicitly labeling it as an unhealthy ingredient and one that people would have trouble pronouncing. People who can only read words they are familiar with, like small children, and only partially literate individuals, might have trouble saying the chemical's name.
There is no correlation between simple names and health. Some artificial chemicals are very unhealthy, unlike sodium benzoate. And some "natural" substances are lethal. But some people like to only eat things they are familiar with and do not wish to look up information about ingredients.
it is funny to hear that wikipedia is apparently losing site visits to AI because let me tell you wikipedia is not losing site visits from me I am all up in that bitch 24/7 I am reading her down like an enemy I am on wikipedia like white on rice
And the second tragedy is that the AI site is just repeating what it read on Wikipedia but with a bunch of random lies mixed in
When you start saying shit like “We need to put every pedophile in concentration camps” any person in power can convince you that any demographic they want you to hate is a pedophile. You need to kill that shit at the source and stop caring about other people’s thoughts.
Generally speaking, people who have any kind of knowledge or literacy on the subject of child protection don't use the word "pedophile" at all. If we're talking about an actual offender, label the specific offenses they have committed.
If you're worried about preventing future hypothetical abuse, educate the kids in how to protect themselves. Encourage strong support networks. Tell them what is and isn't appropriate behaviour of adults and kids. Tell them they can say "no".
If you're worried about people becoming "pedophiles," then provide services where people who have inappropriate intrusive thoughts or unhealthy obsessions of any kind can seek help anonymously and without judgement and work through their issues.
But also bear in mind that the people with the aforementioned mental health issues are not necessarily the ones who sexually abuse kids, and many cases of sex offences against kids are not motivated by sexual attraction. Often, like many cases of abuse, it's an expression of power and dominance, or a desire to hurt, humiliate and shame the victim. If you want to stop those people, again, education is key. Teach children about bodily autonomy- their own and others'. Encourage respect for other people, so they grow up knowing they are not entitled to another person's body.
But funnily enough, the people who like to fearmonger about "PEDOPHILES!!!" tend to also be the people who want to keep their children sheltered and ignorant.
Weird, huh?
you are not immune to reblogging ai and thinking it’s not ai. you are not the master ai sleuth you think you are
I have seen multiple ppl on my dash who frequently share anti-ai posts recently reblog things that I either know from previous experience are ai or set off a flag in my brain and I spend extra time trying to determine and come away pretty convinced it’s ai. I’m not trying to vaguepost but more say like, gang, it’s time to admit not all ai is so obvious and we’re not all super geniuses born with the Human Spark that can tell what’s real and what’s fake
has anyone figured out how to turn off the thing where you love your pet so much it slides inexorably into grief-borrowing
